I would call them spammers if they sum up about 10,000 in less than a month, but in the case of sassafrass he's been here for nearly a year so it's excusable.

When i see people with high post counts i just think they must be a loved member of the escapist community, which i wish to be someday :D

I don't care about post counts, I just want 5000 to get the shiny Neo badge

Heh, I stopped caring about it in myself once I got Neo (look at him, isn't he shiny? Sorry, my badge whore-ness comes out occasionally). I never really cared about it in others, except to point out someone who got a lot in a little time, which always sort of bothered me.

The only thing that comes to mind is an old saying:
"The flame that burns twice as hot, lasts half as long".
I don't feel any hate towards people with a high post count. I know that one day, they will no longer be here. Just us dim, slow burners...
Yeah, but what about people like Neonbob, Commi and Sas who never get moderated? Surely as long as they keep that up, which they've proved they can do, they could last here indefinitely?
True but one day you may turn to the dark side like MaxTheReaper did

Post count defines your forum activity. As a forum regular, it's expected to have a high post count because you've been here a while and have been posting actively. It's not spam, it's contribution.
But you could also simply be a lurker. I suppose I can't counter the fact that having a higher post count means you contribute more, but it doesn't mean you don't use the forums.

Honestly, I see a fair few people with higher post counts as superior to myself. But I think that's bound to happen, after all this is a community and some form of hierarchy will take place.

I also see the people with the high post count and popularity as the sort of 'elite' Escapists, again superior. I don't know why, it just sort of happens.

I think personality, more than anything is what equates to why a person would have a high post count. I've been on a few forums and I did use to care about post counts, well not really; I actually only cared about reaching the 1k milestone. But I was banned before reaching it. Over time I found other things on the internet to do and forums became a smaller part of my habits. I actually enjoy reading and lurking FAR more than posting. I will ONLY voice my opinion when I'm confident in my knowledge with the subject at hand AND my ability to deflect the oncoming flames. My ultimate goal is to be an outspoken person that many people recognize, and have some level of respect for. It's either respect or notoriety. Which depending on perspective; can both be great.

I could give a bigger shit about post count. Sure, someone may have 8578 posts, but if all of those posts are complete bullshit than they are about as useless as a stick. No, wait, you can actually use a stick for something.

I also hate when people with high post counts become celebrities. Being well renowned on this site should be because you have a knack for making good posts, not by how many you have made.
And the one with the adorable .gif has spoken wisdom yet again.

I completely agree, quality over quantity. Any day.

I don't care if somebody posts a lot, personally, you guys aren't doing anything wrong. You like the forums? Good on you.
Provided you have something worthwhile to say/contribute, I see no wrong doing.

How bizarre, because I actually see people like you as way superior to myself. You know, the higher join date and all. I feel like a noob compared to a lot of the older users on here, and feel in deference to them.
Don't.

We joined before you. Big fuckin' deal.

Doesn't make us superior in any way.
[sub](Or, atleast that's what I'm obligated to say - as we're all really an interconnected hive-mind buried deep in Commie's back yard. I mean... Uh... Pancackes.)[/sub]

But yeah, don't feel inferior. ;)

Generally I feel that someone with a higher post count knows there way around and also that they are respected (and deseve to be so) because if their posts were all pointless and stupid they would have recieved a lot of abuse for their posts and people who are pulled up loads generally do not stick around. When I am reading a thread though I only take into account their opinions and what they are saying. Someone with a post count of 1 still has as much of a valid opinion as someone with 20,000+ posts.

At the end of the day though it is an indication of activity not knowlege, and possibily an indication of a certain type of social life :p.

All postcount means is that you're a gobby bastard.

I really don't know why forums insist on keeping them visible in this day and age, it doesn't matter how many posts you've made, the content of each individual post should be assessed on it's own.

eDIT: sorry... I accidenatlly hit 'post' whan i went for 'preview'... I just wanted to learn how to make a footnote. i found that the easiest way to learn it to quote someone who's done it and see how they did it.

Yeah, I just like that old saying... just for pointing out that eventually, all good things come to an end.
I always thought it was "The star that burns twice as bright lasts half as long", but yeah, I understand what you mean.
Yes, there seem to be several variations of that saying, which makes it easier for me to mess it up :p I've heard it as 'star', 'light', and 'flame'. I wish someone would make up their mind... but they are all good sayings.

It's part of a picture I took around ten months ago.

Indeed?
That is a nice picture, I'd never have guessed :p

You know what? I do like having a big post count. There's no shame in it, having a big post count makes people more open to you and willing to chat. I've made friends simply because of my big post count, people are just more social with big posters for some reason. I don't care what it is, as long as I get nice friends

As for my count, I've been here for 15 months and have 15k, thats like 35 posts a day. That's a pretty average number.

On the other side, its funny when people bring me up in that whole "avoided modwrath for this long so they have to be good", without realizing I've been banned twice. So that always gets a chuckle.
