Note: Before we begin, lets keep this as civil as we can, m'kay? No personal attacks on any user, regardless of what ills they may have caused you in the past.

Now, onto the matter at hand.

Now, as I am sure many of you know, there was a bit of a brew-ha-ha over the post count at the start of the year with some unknown user coming out and labelling the people with high post counts as 'borderline spammers', which, I'll admit, pissed me off and made me consider leaving the site as I was one of the people s/he named as 'things that are making this site bad' or some bull-honky like that, which got to me personally.

Now, while that incident was forgotten by many, this has stuck with me for a while and made me wonder the following for a long while. How many of you actually, truly care about the little number counter in the corner when you see other users with a high count like myself?

This also leads me to another question, which is how do the rest of the Escapist see these people who have amassed such a high count in such a short time. Do you label us as spammers? People with no lives? People who need to learn to stop having so much damn spare time? People who need to stop having fun on a serious site?[footnote]This is a joke, by the way. If any of you actually think that, I'll eat my face off.[/footnote] I encourage you to be totally honest on that front, well...not completely honest as I don't want to make a thread responsible for any wrath, but be as honest as the rules allow you to, at least.

So, I ask for you to be totally honest in answering my questions and hope that you can keep this civil and friendly.

Thanks for reading and posting, if you do post.
No poll, as I'd rather get opinions on this, rather then a number next to an option.

It really doesn't matter to me, although a post count above 10,000 is noticeable. I'm still stumped as to how people amass such a high post count in such a short time, though.

I could give a bigger shit about post count. Sure, someone may have 8578 posts, but if all of those posts are complete bullshit than they are about as useless as a stick. No, wait, you can actually use a stick for something.

I also hate when people with high post counts become celebrities. Being well renowned on this site should be because you have a knack for making good posts, not by how many you have made.

One of the reasons there has been an increase in low-age users with high post-counts is, of course, the User Groups. These can add thousands to one's post-count in as little as a week, maybe less.

As far as I can tell, few of the low-age, high post-count are the drooling imbeciles that they are claimed to be. Sure, we get a few dozen idiots, and everyone knows that idiots need to speak loud and lots in order to think that they sound smart.

I personally don't care very much about how many posts I have. The last time I cared was as I was approaching my Real Ultimate Poster badge, but that was more for the fact that I had managed to go without Moderator action for so long, rather than getting up to 5000 posts.

The amount of posts is nothing to me it just means you've been here a long while and have shared your opinion a lot. The impact and/or meaning behind your posts weighs more then how many you have. It's a bit annoying when random users make those with the high post count (Furburt,Hubilub,Pimppeter2,Neonbob) seem like site celebs they're just regular normal peoples.

You'd best get out your face-eatin' utensils then, because I totally think that - The Internet is Serious Business you know![footnote]No of course I do not actually think that.[/footnote]

Having fun is a sign of the apocalypse and must be avoided at any cost lest you bring about rains of sulfur and the eternal damnation of mankind. Doesn't really look good on your resume.

Everyone having over 15000 is kinda strange. Seriously, just how much free time do you have? I may have no social life, but i still have other things to do than to post endlessly in forum games and usergroups.

On a whole though - i have met a couple of good people here. I don't care about my post count because i don't strive to be a "forum celebrity" (which is an oxymoron anyway) - i'm too busy talking to people i actually enjoy talking to.

the posts made in an user group count towards your post count, lets say u joined 10 user groups and actively post in them (mind u it can be mindless blabber u wont get reported or labeled a spammer) u can get 1000 posts per week.

I don't care about post count however I might be a little biased because my bestest friends since before I went Gonzo all have the highest post counts around here.

It's the E-peen concept really. Even total douches can say they're better than you cause of post count. They aren't right but him and all his friends, who I imagine wear helmets and eat their own shoes, will think he's a bad ************. It doesn't really show their character but it gives people biased views of them from the start.

Sorry for changing the message, i just wanted to get to the gist of it. Pimppeter2 is a local celebrity less because of his post count and more because of Pimpin' Reviews.

I know that i'm just saying that others put them on a pedestal because they have over 10 thousand posts.

It can be little weird sometimes seeing people with a much higher post count that I could possible managed in a much shorter time. Understandably, a lot comes from forum games/ group chat and such, they ones that strike me as weird are the people who obtain it only in Off-topic. I think the fastest poster I can remember was superpandaman or something like that. He was here 2 weeks before he got banned, and managed almost 900 posts in that time. Mind you, that was when Going Gonzo was considered a big deal. The post count felt a little different then. Now with people peaking 25k the one-thousand mark doesn't seem like a whole lot. So far, all the "Epic Posters" have had a tendency to get banned or leave.

Edit: I just realized that this makes me sound like a crazy, old man sitting on his porch with a shotgun. But hey, maybe I did become one.

Although each post I usually judge on a post-to-post basis if anything the only thing I tend to judge on (shamefully) are low single-digit posters that just have a blank avatar.

It's probably just a hangover from the time I still spend on Bungie.net since that's the case about 1/3 of the time there but I've always judged on the content of a post not the poster. If anything high post counts to me indicate someone who spends time on the site and wouldn't go around making bad trolling posts since they've already posted so much and a constant troller would be banned here. There's always exceptions but anyways that's just my impression.

(Edit: Speaking of post count... 300... SPARTA!!)

I just wonder why you people post so much, but otherwise I don't really care about the number. How many of those posts are worthwhile anyways, not much I suppose.

Thank you for the feed back thus far. It has made for some interesting reading.

I shall return sometime in the future after I have got some sleep and respond accordingly to separate posts. It's 6.45am here and I'm not at my most coherent, at lease thought wise anyway.
