As long as you don't get a Wii, you have made a good decision.
Excuse me? What's wrong with it? I love my wii. My Xbox 360 gets maybe an hour of playtime and then it collects dust.

Aw guys, come on, gaming is still fun!
Not really.

I can think of maybe a handful of games I play, fewer of which I actually enjoy.

I'm looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, and Alpha Protocol, but I fully expect to be disappointed.
Mass Effect 2 will be awesome, if they make the combat a little tighter and fix the framerate this time around it should be an all time great.

I can't wait to see what happens when the rest of
the reapers
show up.

And I hope it has that wicked song at the end again too...

Simalacrum, as this thread is very personal to you, you'll probably be watching it like a hawk, so i won't be brief.

Tips:

Watch other people play games, the more addictive, the better (CS, WoW, etc.). See their time tick away, frustrations projected at a LCD screen, the accompanied diet, and reaffirm for yourself that that is not the person you want to be.

When the habit rears it's head, do something that gives you peace (you've already mentioned circus skills, Nmil-ek mentioned gym, drawing and pshopping), i use wood carving and painting miniatures (i have very shaky hands, every beautiful thing i make is a victory). Don't just use this in game habit situations, every stressful situation should be remedied by this (to make it a better habit).

After say 6 weeks, whenever you see a fresh game mechanic or attractive graphics engine, by all means, pick it up! Pride yourself in your ability to put it down when you've gotten the jist. That's more knowledge in your bag, without the baggage of unfulfilled pleasure of needless repetition.

If stricken by doubt, post a thread on this forum. The people here are decent, au contraire to some parts of the Internet.

Hope you won't find this too preachy,

Mojave

Good luck man.
I tried to quit WoW but it was a little hard when all my friends are playing.

Yeah, you're definitely not the first or only non-gamer here.

As a matter of fact, I'm headed that way as well.

Oh, gaming...how I wish you were fun instead of just something to do.
You spend far to much time posting on here to play games you silly little pink fluffy bunny rabbit.

Quite honestly, some hardcore gamers make me mad sometimes. Gaming has and always will be about plain and simple fun, but some people go too far, playing boring games just to prove they're hardcore. I'd rather just have fun with a hobby.

Yep, you heard me. I'm no longer going to be playing games like the rest of you fine folk anymore.

Let me explain. A few days ago, my PS3 died on me - you might have seen me rant about it on the forums a little bit. Well, I've been thinking about the options available to me since then - do I simply replace it for a hefty £140 and deal with it? Do I instead buy a 360 for a much bigger price tag? Or, as I've decided, do I simply quit gaming all together?
*snip*
Wait, since when is the PS3 less expensive than the 360?

Did I miss the news about a gigantic price drop or something?
Its costs less to get a console repaired than to buy a whole new one I hear...

Also, I dont really buy the whole 'this is the last safe haven from trolls' bs about this forum. I have seen trolls, been trolled, and even trolled maybe once or twice out of rage. This forum is also horribly biased and occasionally ignorant, with a dash of elitism. Oh shit... people who run this forum might read this and get pissed umm... ahh...

I love this place!
Ehm.......you think i'm a troll?

They were honest questions, but I suppose it could be mistaken for sarcasm to be fair.
That was bad wording on my part I suppose. =]

But in my defence he never actually said anything about repairs....he used the word 'replace', which to me means throw out the old one and get a new one.
I wasnt trying to imply you were a troll... but I guess the self analyzing may have done you some good anyways :p

Only the first line pertained to your post, the rest was aimed at the OP, you know how replies in a thread generally comment or add to the original post/thought? Yeah, that.

I thought this was going to be another thread squeaking "oh my god the Wii only has casual games and Natl is going to suck". I was pleasantly surprised :)

And I know the feeling. Quit WoW about a year ago after about three years of denied addiction, felt really good. Good luck with staying away from it.

Oh and don't worry, I have plenty of time to spare -.-
god dont i know it i was a hardcore raider for 4 years never missed a night before i went casual 6 months ago though now i dont know what to do though im afraid i may have replaced the addiction with forum trolling and web comic reading i even read misfile something i would never have done a few years ago

You have fun with your social life, and your outdoors, I'll be fine with my "moniter's blue glow induced tan"!
But, seriously, good for you. When it comes down to it, we're just a bunch of idiots with our own opinions, the only thing that matters is whatever you think'll make you happy, XD.
