OMG, how much is the controller going to cost? I need at least two controllers.

And what happens if I go into a fit of rage and throw the damn thing?
I'm sure it being nintendo, it will either:

a) be indistructable

or

b) have a silly padded condom.

Or

c) most likely both.

SOunds like a terrible idea; more unnecessary gimmicks and the controllers will probably be pretty expensive...

I had to re-read the title a couple of times.
More gimmicks. GENIUS!
Obviously they learned their lesson with the 3ds.

I like it, especially because otherwise it looks like a good old regular gamepad. If I had a Wii, and gods know I want one, I'd only get games you play sideways-classic-like.

I think now I want a Wii2 - more so if it's backwards compatible, or has some other way of playing New Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Returns and whathaveyou

I really look forward to the Metroid game that will both make up for Other M and use the touchscreen as a pseudo-mouse for better aiming.

It's funny because everyone praises the Dreamcast and yet when Nintendo copies their VMU feature the post-Wii Nintendo backlash is in full, irrational effect.

At least they got the analog sticks right! not like that fisher price abortion of a classic controller that came with the Wii first!

EDIT: After careful analyses, i can say it's fake, well at least the screenshot is fake, as it's just a photoshop'd image of the new classic controller and some operating system with internet explorer (Microsoft)

Just saying for folks before they email their grand parents.

I hated the Wii controller enough as it is.
This. I think they're deliberately trying to piss people off at this stage. What next? Will the touch screen have 3D incorporated into it?

Those controllers must cost $120+ each. Not a great design if you want local multiplayer for any of your games... like Smash Bros for instance.

I just don't see how this console could cost anything under $500, and at that price point there is no reason to buy it over a 360 or PS3 since the hardware specs are pretty similar to those 2 consoles. Keep in mind Nintendo has and always will REFUSE to sell a console at anything less than a large profit.

I guess we'll see in a few days. I'm skeptical to say the least.

I can't tell if I like this or not.

Seems like a pain, and expensive, but the fact that you can take it off and use it... wait...

WHAT IF IT CAN PLAY GBA GAMES?!

i remember how bulky the dreamcast controller felt with, what, a 2 inch screen?

i imagine thats a concept photo, but i still cant imagine how a 6 inch screen can fit anywhere on a controller without making the actual control part suffer. why would nintendo come to their senses and make a normal, functional controller, then cock it up anyway with an intrusive gimmick?

meh...at least i can play games without wonky motion controls getting in the way. the touchscreen has always been a nice way to handle menus on the DS, but unless nintendo can bend the laws of physics to make it less intrusive, i dont think its worth it.

As long as they keep the price reasonable for a controller... I'm far more optimistic about this than anything.

Just incorporating a menu system into the touchscreen while keeping everything else a more traditional control with all the buttons, triggers, and sticks that we've grown accustomed to seems like an awesome step to me. More options than a controller and not as much of a hassle and a whole mess of a keyboard. I think this could end up very, very good. Both for the shovelware games AND the more traditional ones.

I personally am cautiously optimistic about this, I remember how much fun Zelda: 4 Swords was.

Note: that picture is just an concept image
Here edit your post and put this in in case people want to read the actual report.

That thing is probably gonna be like 150 bucks. Count the Wii2 in there (300$?) and some 60$ games. Well so far for being nintendo being the cheaper one. Thus losing it's only advantage.

And replacing it with the advantage of being the "only one". If Microsoft and Sony stick to their word (they won't), that leaves Nintendo with a monopoly on generation 8 for a couple of years.

Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic about this, but I'm not making a final judgement call until I see their E3 conference.
