I'm going to make an assumption here. I am assuming that most of the escapist have been to a live music concert (or "gig")at some point. So what was your first gig? who did you see, where, and what did you think of it? here is mine:

I saw Keane, on their under the iron sea tour, at Sheffield. I went down with a mate (another was meant to come, but bailed out literally last minute) I thought it was awesome, with crystal ball, bad dream etc. being played there was many lol worthy moments, such as a drunk dude getting thrown out of the stadium at a KEANE gig, BEFORE the band had come on. Also, listening to the die hard Keane fans in front of me was funny, with quotes such as "aww mate, you can't follow up on crystal ball mate, you just can't"

All in All, I enjoyed it massively.

so tell about your first gig.

Muse at liverpool echo arena october 2009.

Got me into concerts I suppose. Been to see dozens of bands since. Best stage i've ever seen though. Wasnt so much a show to be involved in but it was a great show to just stand in awe and watch.... pretty laser lights

BFMV at the Brixton Academy two years ago, got wankered beyond belief, went crowd surfing a hell of a lot, lost my shoe in the process and someone with a awesome shot managed to throw it right to me when i went over the barrier. Good times man.

Never been to one, Wiggle's or Playschool type things as a kid not included.
But I wanted to ask:
Isn't a "gig" only used when its you or you're band playing, I thought it was like music terminology for job.

My first gig/concert was

Kamelot with Fairyland and Leaves' Eyes as support.
19/04/'07

Roy Khan is brilliant live. Altough the sound at the venue was a bit meh, it was still pretty awesome.

and Fletch, you might be right..

The Kids...I don't remember where, but I know the date was 11/05/2003

One of the best bands I've ever seen perform live!
Great show, even though it was hard for me to get in, only being 11 years old and stuff xD But I went there with my big brother, so it was fine. The place where I learned how to drink like a man should drink, actually. xD
Great memories.

You are correct when it comes to "gig", but I wouldn't hold it against him.

EDIT: It doesn't have to be just the band though. It could be the roadies and such for the band and it would still be a gig.

Lostprophets, May 1st 2010.

Me and 2 others managed to get close to the front, but then me and one other got pushed back. After Last Train Home in the mosh pits, went to get a drink, saw someone I had sold one of my tickets to, and she had split up from her friends, so I stuck with her until the end. Headbanging to We Are Godzilla You Are Japan is beastly. Left, got a lift back to my house for 1am. A week later, me and the same girl started dating.

Yeah, great first gig.

Biffy Clyro at the Brixton Academy in 2009. It was amazing.
This was shortly followed by the Foo Fighters at Wembley Arena. Also amazing.

They were my first 2 :3

I've seen Dream Theater before and it was the best concert I've ever been to, with Judas Priest at a close second.

OP: My first was some lame Christian music festival. It was enjoyable at the time, when I too was a Christian, but now I am an atheist.

That's cool, I was just curious that's all.
Lord knows I'm not perfect when it comes to language, so I'm not about to deride someone else for what seems to me to be an easy mistake to make.

Ah, its cool, I only used the word gig as it fitted better into the title (an alteration of 30h!3's " well my first kiss went a little like this...")

Fairport Convention. Salisbury City Hall in 1998 after they released Who Knows Where the Time Goes?. Brilliant. For some reason I stopped listening to them though and didn't see them again until 2004.

I saw these mad japanese guys called Electric Eel Shock at a once-famous pub named De Barra's.
The energy was unbelieveable. I had never before experienced that kind of intensity. People were crowd surfing and jumping all over the place.
I managed to get a signed copy of their latest album. It was awesome.

The only thing i remember about my first gig is that it started raining during it, but it was still going ahead. then afterwards, 2 guys ran around completly naked besides barrels they were wearing on.
