Hey neat.

This looks pretty cool. They can dress themselves! This is a great day for Final Fantasy.

Joking aside, Im kind of serious. I didnt pay attention to E3, and this topic has in fact caused FFXV to catch my interest. And I've noticed a few people say that, so obviously they didnt kill it.

This just in: Japan doesn't give a fuck whether there's a lack of male characters or a lack of female characters, to them gender is something that developers/writers have complete freedom to choose without getting questions/criticism hurled at them by easily-offended feminists (or the like).

See here: http://otixero.com/post/55251896489/gavin-moore-why-do-we-want-girls-to-play-girls-and
I: Well, you know, we have this discussion right now-
M: Yes, interesting. Interesting. You see, I?m out in Japan and so I never hear any of this.
I: No? Is there no discussion whatsoever?
M: No discussion whatsoever. Nobody would even ask.
I: That sounds incredibly sexist from a western perspective.
M: It does, but from their perspective it?s like ?What would the point be? Why would you even care if the character is male or female?? I mean they play around with very strong female characters, you know, looking at Bayonetta and all those sort of things.
I: It?s a non-issue there.
M: Yeah.
I: Do you feel like this could become an issue sometime, or are the cultural-
M: Never.
I: Never?
M: Never will they care.

....Ah, good old Squeenix. Glad to see they're keeping the androgene count up for the FF games.
Of course that's a girl.

...that's a girl, right?

What's wrong with those? Those are honestly the most reasonably dressed FF characters I've ever seen since the 3D transition. I mean yeah, the characters look a little like ponces but at the same time you know nothing of their personalities.

And really, THAT is what ruins it? Not the endless grind of magic gathering in VIII, not the idiotic whining and horrible gameplay additions of X and X2? Not the useless character being the focus of the story he has nothing to do with in XII? Not the linear corridor fest of never-ending hallways and inconsistent tones set in XIII?

The characters are dressed reasonably, they're in a combat system that isn't garbage, they might have a story that isn't garbage, and for all we know you might just play as 1 character and the others are supporting.

People are seriously whining about Tetsuya Nomura directing this game? ... seriously I would take Nomura over another game by Motomu Toriyama.

Final Fantasy XV actually looks like it has potential to be good so Im not getting all the complaining, I would understand if this was about XIII aka the game nobody had no clue what the hell they wanted to do so they ended up stapling together random assets and Toriyama farting out a "story" around it.

I can get behind people complaining about it straying from the series roots cause yeah it has very little in common with the older games. Although saying Nomura is all "style and no substance" is kinda funny considering Toriyama's games lack both style and substance, at least with Nomura even if the character designs are wacky or the story is a bit on the nutty side then the gameplay is solid.

You're ranting about squeenix killing Final Fantasy and you don't bring up the "fuck off, we don't want you to play anyway" combat system that was FF12 and the "hurr durr brainless linear corridor extravaganza" that was FF13?

I mean shit, the characters in this new one aren't all that bad. Dyou remember Kefka the hilariously gay insane clown? Faris the crossdresser with horribad makeup? The monstrosity that was Seymour's hair? Cait Sith the retarded mecha-toy?

Even if you are going to complain only about the character design, and not the lack of depth or incredibly boring linear hallway gameplay, you should at least remember that Final Fantasy has almost always had some fucked-up-looking characters :p

If you really think that the character design is the death of Final Fantasy, then you haven't been around for the past few years.

An action RPG is great news to me. Hell, the fact that it sounds playable is great news to me. Final Fantasy has been dead for a very long time. I say bring on FF15; it can't be any worse than what we've been getting.

Here's a panorama of characters from the most recent trailer (that picture you're using is quite old)

As you can see, there are two girls, and when viewing the characters from the front they don't look so "brotastic" to me.
I don't know, that last character might be a very effeminate looking boy. And the fourth character from the right looks like a woman, but then again, so does Poison from Final Fight.[footnote]Psst, I'm saying she could have a tallywhacker between the legs[/footnote]

All funny business aside, I do sort of understand where the OP is coming from. Most Final Fantasy's have at least 3 playable female characters. In many of them, women play pivotal roles in the story, if not the most important ones. FYI, I'm just pointing this out, not saying FFXV is not going to follow suit.

I am not really familiar with the franchise so forgive me if I am wrong. But didn't Final Fantasy 10-2 feature ladies only cast years ago? I can understand if this was an honest mistake on your part but your post reeks of sexism (ironically) right now. I say wait for more information before jumping the gun. It is always good to keep an open mind.

Just like Ezio. He seems to be at home in his new franchise.

I agree with this completely. Final Fantasy Series has been trying to change its plot/design/mechanics/whatever S-E can think of changing, and they just can't find the sweet spot to make what they used to, with modern graphics and interactions.

hopefully FF-XV will be the one which can mesh old style final fantasies with the modern mechanics. Don't judge what you haven't played :)

...Is it just me or does the guy black shirt and jacket look a lot like Tseng from FF7?

As for the future of the series, they managed to last this long from a game made when the company was going bust, I'd say it'll be some time before we reach the TRUE Final Fantasy.
Even then someone will pick up the rights afterwards.

Yes, yes it was an all lady playable cast. It also had one of the funnest battle systems stapled to one of the most grinding stories.

Hey! XV looks interesting! Considering I love the series for IV thru X, and I am ok with XII and XIII, I'm digging this increased interaction in the battles.

... I couldn't stop laughing at the statement that Final Fantasy 15 looks "brotastic". Out of all the terms I'd use to describe any Final Fantasy game, let alone XV, "brotastic" has got to be somewhere in an alternate dimension! Though that would make one insane Final Fantasy game if the main characters were like Marcus and Dom from Gears of War.

Screw omni-slash retread! Chainsaw execution for the win! Unfortunately Dom and Marcus would still be more friendly to each other than to the female party members, despite recent Final Fantasy trends putting them in relatively revealing outfits. Well, except possibly Lightning.

The visual design is less bad, there's no playable girls as far as we know, the setting has more modern elements, and the gameplay is going hack and slash. Therefore a franchise that survived through the utter trainwrecks of Spirits Within, All The Bravest, Theatrhythm, VIII, X, the XIII trilogy, and XIV, is going to die.

Really?

Look, I get complaining about have no playable females, because that is a problem with the industry. Watch that Jimquisition video about female protagonists. But there may be one revealed later, it's not a deal breaker, and the other things you're complaining abut are GOOD things. Apart from in Dissidia, FF's always stuck to a turn based system that's just plain boring. It's good to hear they're mixing it up. And did you see the visual design of XIII? That hurt my eyes! At least this one you can actually look at, and the mixing of classical looking buildings with fantastic elements looks really nice. As for more modern elements, the FF series has been modernizing since VI, and no-one's complained as long as it's handled well.

Is that Altair in the middle? Seriously Squeenix, can't get original so you gotta steal Ubisoft's Asscreed gear?
OT: FF series died when Sakaguchi and Uematsu split and formed Mistwalker. I still feel that Lost Odyssey was the true FF12 and the last great Final Fantasy game.

What the heck is that? *googles* Hmm. Truly a dark moment in Final Fantasy history. I'll let FFX-2 off for once.

I wouldn't say the franchise is dead, it's just less appealing to some. I'm personally not a fan of the more recent games as they didn't really seem all that 'fantasy' and a bit too much 'industrial Sci-Fi'. FFIX is my favourite of the lot, it's kind of steampunk-y but it was a breath of fresh air after VII and VIII. X was kind of on the fence, nice and colourful but I'm not a fan of Meg Ryan. And the start of XIII just didn't seem to be fantasy at all so I gave up after two or so hours, maybe it changes later on but I'd rather not spend the first 10 hours of a game in another genre before getting to the good bit.

From what I've seen of XV it's even more 'realistic' than anything before it, with the exception of Leviathan showing up to ruin someone's day and stuff generally floating in a not-completely-normal fashion. But as long as the are Chocobos I guess I can handle it. You can't say no to a Chocobo.

sorry to sounds dismissive, but its part or being older. newer versions of what you once loved dont quite cut it anymore.

EDIT
what i will say, atleast it got you into gaming, there are other games out there to try n fill the void, and you can always unpack the old consoles n replay those games you loved

The FF15 guys look pretty dark and simply dressed to me. Except for the dick on the far right, but you always gotta have something odd in everything so you can continue to strive for perfection. The hairstyles make them look a little douchy but that's about it. If they changed the hairstyles to really short hair and giant mohawks then they'd rock the look better. And why do you want more girly crap on FF games? Wasn't it enough to have to deal with the crap FFX-2 was? If they can't make interesting, strong female characters then thank fuck for not putting any in this new game. Lightning was almost alright, but what surrounded her was utter shit so the character suffered for being in a shit game. Those fuckers in that picture there look pretty fucking punk to me.

It's not so much that they KILLED Final Fantasy, it's that they're making a new type of game using the old FF name. Which I think is a shame. I mean, I am not against what I've seen of this game... I just wish that they were making a good old turn based/ATB FF RPG, while ALSO making this.
