I think we can safely say that the MAJORITY of people here were let down by Mass Effect, which begs the question, will Mass Effect 2 be any better?
That is quite wrong, it is a thread specifically about games that people weren't into.

If you look at any 'favorite games' thread Mass Effect always features very highly in those too.

It is definately not a game for everyone as the amount of time invested by the player in exposition and story is almost half of the game, but it is what a lot of people love about the game.

I personally loved it despite its technical flaws and the weak combat system, and the last hour of the game was the most exciting climax to a game I have ever played.
Maybe I should of said "the MAJORITY of people posting in this thread", as it is statistically true.
I do see your point however:)
Yeah the only game I could kind of compare it to on that level would be the Metal Gear Solid series, which also puts a lot of people off due to it's emphasis on story. I have to admit I only got half way through MGS (the one on the oil rig) before giving up because I really wanted to press some buttons... and I hated that Raiden twat and those annoying, stilted PDF chats with his stupid girlfriend.

At least in Mass Effect you could choose whether to be nice or an asshole when chatting to people for half an hour!

I did finally get round to COD4:MW. Borrowed it from a friend played it, kind of enjoyed it but have no inclination to get back to it. I have played too many shooters of late, but it still didn't give me the horn.

spyro games after spyro 3 anyone?

also Tomb Raider: anniversary. sure its fun for while, untill those ridicoulous puzzles and the T-rex came in (yes, there is a T-rex).
The reason there's a T-Rex is because it is a remake of the original Tomb Raider, which was made back in the days when video games making no sense was still acceptable as long as they were fun.

Personally I found Anniversary to be ok but the last portion of the game was anything but fun, with multiple deaths due to insanely bad camera angles and glitchy platform mechanics.

Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4.

They're so endlessly meh.
I utterly hated DMC 4... I sat through the first few godawful cutscenes because the graphics in game were pretty, and the combat was quite fun in parts.

However, when it got to that part where they made me backtrack through the swamp again and the exits went all wonky in an apparent 'puzzle' I just said 'well fuck you too DMC4' and never touched it again.

One of the few games I've ever brought back to the shop to trade due to it's hair pulling awfulness.

I don't have many. I guess Oblivion is one, just couldn't get into it. Beyond good and evil, I can't really bring myself to keep playing. I tried playing Fallout 1 after I enjoyed Fallout 3 but once again, I couldn't bring myself to keep playing it. It's not that their bad games, they just don't give me the desire to keep playing.

Crash Twinsanity.

I was a major Crash Bandicoot fan all the way upto Wrath of Cortex (and Nitro Kart if you count spin offs) and spent weeks on Twinsanity thinking "ok that was annoying... it's still good, it's still good..." "wow these camera angles fucking suck balls... it's still good, it's still good" and such...

It wasn't until I got near the end of the game I realised what a piece of shit that game was, but for some reason I kept playing it...

Ended up replacing my controller though... >.>

That's very Philip K. Dick. Would it make me a pretentious dork if I said that's possibly the smartest thing I've read this week?

Pretty much every 'Zelda' game after Super Nintendo.
And GTAIV I sold that game I couldn't get myself to play it. What a let down; I don't get why it got so many perfect scores.

It's gotta be Final Fantasy IX. My friend basically forced the game on me and I couldn't even finish the first CD... I just don't get these games for some reason. *shrug*

Definately Kingdom Hearts. Even the Final Fantasy links weren't enough to save it. I've started the game four times and I think four hours is my limit. I think that's a pretty strong sign of a bad game.

Lmao, this may sound weird, but I played Gears of War, and it just seemed like mindless violence, which, ok, was fun for a couple of hours, but for a full game it got a bit tedious, I'm kind of a strange mix and hard to please more often than not, I was also recommended Mass Effect by a friend, and when I say reccomended I meant I borrow it for a week or two.
how can it be a waste of time if you borrowed it?

at least you didn't blow a ton of cash on the best rated game of the year only for it to be one of the worst ever PC ports aswell as one of the most boring games you've ever bought *cough GTA4, fuck you rockstar*

I'd have to say Oblivion... Oddly enough, after a few hours, I felt like I was working
As much as I love Oblivion, I can definitely see where you are coming from. When I play an RPG I like to become as powerful as I can, and in order to do that in Oblivion, it takes so much micromanaging and keeping track of your stats in order to get those +5 modifiers upon leveling. That's way too much work and it takes the fun out of the game. So now I play to enjoy it, and if things get to hard, I just lower the difficulty.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and on topic, I'd say any MMO. I just don't see the point in paying a monthly fee to play a game in which, if you want to be any good at all, you have to play for hours upon hours every day, grinding levels. At least that's the impression I get from MMORPGs. And then to top it off, if you decide to stop paying, you lose all that work.

Call of Duty 2.
It wasn't a waste, but I feel it's the weakest game of the series(I haven't played 3). It feels like it should work, but it's missing something vital that I can't just put my finger on.
