Organize a counter-protest. If you can get enough people to protest against the Westboro Baptist Church people then maybe they'll just go away.

All else fails, a night in jail for assault seems like a fair price to pay for breaking the nose of one of the protestors.

That's what they want. They want people to attack them so they can sue, win huge amounts of money and pump themselves up as martyrs.

OP, get ahold of the family of the Soldier and have them call the police. If there's nothing that can be done to keep these terrorists away from the actual funeral, set up a counter-protest to keep them busy.

And let the family know you're standing with them. I'm willing to lay money that it would bean the world to them.

The absolute worst thing you can do to someone seeking attention is to just simply ignore them. Arguing and rallying against them just gives them the attention the crave so much.

I say that the worst thing you can do to them is ignoring them, and that by arguing or rallying against them would just be to give the attention they're seeking. Thus, better to ignore them. Admittedly I was trying to be a bit fancy with how I said it, but I don't see what's wrong with the statement.

I've thought about this a lot about what I'd like to do if those people came where I can get at them and it all comes down to how disagreeable you find them and how bad you're willing to make you're self smell for awhile. They want to stand around making people miserable that's their business but see how much they like it when you "accidentally" trip and spill you're container of horrible moldy nasty split pea soup or a whole carton of really old eggs or milk all over the ground where they're standing. The biggest problem with them is that they are well aware of the law and they know what they can get away with and most like what you can get away with but I guarantee there's nothing illegal about carrying something that smells terrible and you wouldn't want to be near it around in a flimsy container and dropping it by accident.

Get a big picket sign (it does not even need to say anything other then "go away trolls") and just get right in their face. Scream and shout as loud as you can. Don't let them get a single word out. Get others to do the same. Post it on youtube. We already know being reasonable does not work when dealing with them.

Yea they're the Patriot Guard Riders. They will do anything and everything to keep the WBC from doing any dumb shit. For example, they might rev their engines really loud to block the voices of the protesters

Well you could ignore them.

Or you could prevent them from reaching/heckling in some fashion (legal or not).

Or you could upstage them in the crazy meter. You could make dozens of trollface masks then get the anti-protest crowd to all wear them then all sing the trololo song. Have one member carrying a sign saying: 'We make as much sense as they do.' with an arrow pointing towards the WBC.

Other upstaging ideas would have to be more batshit insane than the WBC, although this might be difficult. Psychotropic drugs might be necessary to create this effect.

Or you could just evacuate everyone in the area and just gas them all. 'What? Who could know that a purely random cloud of mustard gas would materialize on top the location where a known hate group would be protesting?'


The best idea so far: just change the date of the funeral. It would be mighty funny for the WBC to be protesting an empty church.

Trick them, infiltrate their protest and say that this church is a bait and the actual funeral is somewhere close enough so that they think its worth it to hurry over but far away enough so that they wont make it back. if possible send them out to a swamp or something like that.
