I often support Anonymous's causes (although I don't really approve of their methods) but to me this is proof that there is a difference between defending free speech and tolerating cruelty and I believe this is the latter.

Since when is Anonymous even a group? I know the press has been referring to thme as a group for years, but since when has Anon ever been anything BUT a bunch of Anonymous individuals who occasionally collaborate on a target? If there is an actual "Anonymous" group, they're going to have to accept that other anonymous people will act anonymously.
It's the WBC, who the hell cares what happens to those insesitive, heartless pricks who protest at funerals.

Anonymous isn't monolithic. As already noted in this thread, this is probably a case of one fringe denying the actions of another. Anyway, WBC is too dumb for such alleged duplicity.

Anonymous is not a single entity, it's always on the move. I think it's highly likely that the WBC may have been sent such a letter at one time. But unless they are really motivated or feel threatened they rarely bother to amass enough will/people-power for such things.
The idea of a letter 'from' anonymous is just silly, however, as no single or group of persons could ever hope to represent the whole.

If Phelps didn't have Anon on his(secretly penis craving)ass already, he will now. Although he's already such a joke I'm not sure what exactly they will do, but I'm sure they will find a way to fuck with him hardcore for this.
When will people learn? Anonymous isn't an organisation! There is no HQ for anonymous! They don't ISSUE press statements! They can't! Because they aren't a central organization composed of a set amount of members! There's probably hundreds of groups calling themselves anonymous - that's the joke, they're anonymous - be definition they AREN'T a stable collective or organization - they are everyone and no one.

I only heard about the Westboro Baptist Church yesterday, after watching some videos about it on YouTube. Those people are crazy!
I also watched the video about Shirley Phelps accusing Anonymous of hacking their Church's website, and I really hoped that it was true!
Its a shame that it was only a publicity stunt.
