Some points to clarify.

There is evidence behind the assertion that westboro may have forged this attack.

Before something is generally posted as a newsletter it tends to show up on some form of discussion site, whether it be one of the chans or a tinychat program or the like. After noticing that it had been posted it didn't take long to figure out it had came out of the blue completely, with little too no discussion before hand.

And yet westboro responded rather quickly, well before most news sites had bothered to post anything about it or hell before I personally had noticed our supposed "attack" letter.

We do of course moderate things to a extent, but as has been pointed out in a largely anonymous group it can be difficult.

The "attack" letter is missing several key... themes you could expect from the average anonymous letter, considering that generally the more fringe related a post is the more stupidly over saturated with memes and phrases the posts seem too be.

Furthermore any idiot can quickly discover that Westboro are essentially a trolling organization and we are fully aware of the strategys they use.

Could it have been some random anonymous user honestly trying to start a attack? Yes of course.

However plenty of evidence suggests otherwise.

Take that as you will.

How the hell does Anonymous release a single press statement? The idea of Anonymous releasing a press statement contradicts the very idea of itself. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ4HSwb59IA&feature=related]

Godamn newfags have taken over Anon.

So "anonymous" has a spokesperson now or what?
That is what I am wondering. How does anyone know if Anonymous didn't send the letter? Does Anonymous always know what Anonymous is doing?
The Hive is in constant communication with itself. If any units splinter off and form a project group without communicating it to the collective, they effectively stand alone.

I assume a rough consensus was reached through mass discussion and this press release was issued spontaneously as a result of that. If you don't see another, contradictory press release then it means enough consensus was reached that nobody feels quite strongly enough to speak out.

Thing about Anon is, even though it lacks a formal leader or proper center of mass, it's frighteningly good at reaching consensus and coordinating itself.
Anonymous is a stand-alone complex, God save us all.

People in the U.K are so lucky these people can't enter their country. They spread hate of their own country and people. They are just plain evil.

Don't these Christians know that Lying is a sin?
Actually it's not, just giving false testimony (as in court testimony) against your neighbor is. Common misunderstanding, but the 10 commandments aren't quite as clear as you might think.
neither is much of the fairy tales that are in the bible, but you still see ppl take them at face value XD

Wait...So Anonymous ISN'T taking down WBC? They're telling other people NOT to?

Wow. On one hand I'm a bit disappointed that they aren't gonna attack the biggest group of trolls in the world, but on the other hand I'm really proud of Anon for that.

I guess it shows that they're at least a bit committed to the whole "free speech and free internetz for all" deal. I might be starting to like those crazy basement dwelling nutjobs.

Also, you know what I think would be totally awesome? WBC pickets a gaming convention, trying to stop people going in. The Con organizers get together with the people attending the Con, and show up with an armory's worth of water guns, stating "We've designated the 300 feet around this convention to be water-war zone. Anyone IN the zone is a fair target, whether or not they're armed. Anyone who doesn't want to get wet has 30 seconds to exit the soaker zone!". XD

We hungarians had a historian who was named Anonymus. Okay, we named him that way 'cause noone knew his name. Y'see, he was mysterious and shit.
And there's a huge statue of him in a park. Looks kinda like a combination between a dementor and Gandalf sans beard, just chillin' in an armchair.. Badass.
Oh YEAAAAAH! I remember seeing that statue when I went to hungary last summer on a family trip (you know, get to know my mom's country). Pretty freaky statue.

It's worth noting that these people aren't representative of baptists generally. 'baptist' is an extremely decentralized denomination: there's no analogue to the pope or the bishop of canterbury to go around kicking out ppl who say crazy things. in fact, you too can call yourself a baptist church, just by putting a sign to that effect in your front yard.

What's this, Anonymous? You're discovering you don't have control over who dons your mantle for whatever cause they see fit? Someone does something under the guise of Anonymous, and here's what happens--they suddenly act all "Wait, no we didn't."

Yes, you did. Even if it's just a handful of Anon fans playing pretend, you did it. Even in the extremely unlikely event that WBC had the presence of mind to somehow stage this themselves, which I highly doubt judging by their history, you did it.

You created a mask that shields you from the accountability you try to enforce on others, and now some of those sort of people are adopting the mask and using it to dodge accountability in the same way. You use guerrilla tactics to "enforce" free speech, and yet you act surprised when people discover they can use those same tactics to enforce whatever limits they want to put on the speech of others.

You created the mask. You set the terms of engagement. You did this, and everything that comes after it. Welcome to the fundamental flaw of vigilantism.
HAHAHAHAHHHAAHAHHAHHAHA

You good sir are quite correct. A mask protects you but anyone can where your mask. Then people you do not side with will start their own "Anonymous" group and give you credit.

I never hide who I am. If asked, I would tell anyone my real name. Because how can you trust a man who hides his name in fear. If I was at war, I might be security conscious and hide my location, but never my name or voice.

Well that's organized religion, I guess.
Nice Generalization.

Perhaps next you will comment on how all women are bad drivers, or how all people of African decent like fried chicken, or how all atheist are A**h***s. Do not blame organized religion for the sins of men.

They are not part of any sect of Christianity. No denominational body. They are not even part of the Baptist Church. Just because someone says they are Christian does not make them Christian. If I thought I could infiltrate their organization with Holy Oil and Exoticism equipment I would cast out their demons.

Sadly even if their church dies out, their brand of stupid never will. Human stupidity corrupts everything they do.

Not exactly what I thought was happening, but it is still stupid. Although doesn't something like this happen all the time?

I was thinking that too. Where did this press release happen? How for that matter.

Don't they post everything they are going to do? If it wasn't posted then it probably wasn't them.

Going on the assumption that the WBC fabricated the whole thing themselves (I really hope so), I have to say that it is pretty funny that these Westboro morons didn't take two minutes out of their day to go and visit 4chan and see how loosely the word "fag" gets tossed around. Not that there isn't a difference between the two (there is), but I reckon that helping out their fellow gay man isn't exactly a high priority for Anon, at the moment.

Still, publicity stunts like this smack of desperation and while it may seem good that more people are ignoring them, it also means they may up their game even more, which is troubling. And if Anon did do it, it seems like it was some small-time people, not some sort of large scale, organized attack. Either way, still funny.

Am i the only one who thinks Anon should take the site down anyway? teach WBC not to use their name for a publicity stunt. Not like it would be hard.

All that happened, as I saw it, was that either someone against WBC or indeed WBC themselves called Anon's bluff by posting a "declaration of war" against WBC on 4chan. Given the evident lack of support and the similar nature of pro-war posts the consensus seemed to be it was the WBC out for attention.

In my book, WBC are in the same league as North Korea; A sad, pathetic little organisation that throws a paddy every six months just to remind people that they are still there.

It's hard to make any meaningful impact when their websites garner so little traffic. Their main way of getting attention is to picket against a funeral, or something physical like that- and aside from one or two guys in guy Fawkes masks, Anon's presence seems mostly confined to the web and the world of technology.

Like many people who have already posted, if Anonymous were to go after the WBC then, for once, I'd be right behind them rather than writing them off as social-rejects with very deep chips on their shoulders.

I wonder if the WBC are actually aware that everyone else has now twigged what their game is? They don't belive half of that shit they preach, they just do/say things they know to be provocative and outrageous in the hope that someone lamps them one so they can sue - this is America we're talking about, remember?

Mind you the WBC are doing wonders for the rise of athiesm because society loves to tar everyone with the same brush, right? According to "society", all furries fuck sheep, all Catholic priests rape little boys and all black people will shoot you when in most cases, it's nearly always a small minority of the aforementioned groups ruining it for everyone else. Anyone else heard about that utter bellend who had the verse from Leviticus, the one about homosexuality being illegal, tattooed on his arm, forgetting that another passage from Leviticus also bans tattoos? Well done mate...your fuckwittedness helps us all!

So keep going WBC - your sterling efforts will soon result in everyone eventually thinking (realising!) that religion, even if it once had noble intentions, is now dominated by the gobby, the money-obsessed, the bigoted and, most crucially, the egomaniacal and thus will (hopefully!) be dismissed wholesale as the utter con that it now is.

And then we can start on the Prius.

Fuck yeah, this article proves it: The Westboro Faggots are not Christians, just professional trolls who try to fucking make the Church look bad.
