We've all played as the Marines and the Army, but what about the Navy?

Why can't we play as suicide bombers? You know, blowing up innocents for the good of Western Civilization.

The Navy's gay. xD But there's a couple games where you get to be the Navy. Metal of Honour: Rising Sun or something like that.

A common Misconception. Its only the Sub fleet that's gay. XD

I know the whole navy isn't gay, xD but it's fun to say so.

How many of us can say we've played quality games that let us do the actual sea battles the Navy was made for? Not just the SEALs that we've seen from the SOCOM franchise.

Just imagine some of the new experiences of no longer being constricted to the lay of the land, but instead to the whimsy of the ocean and the fancy of the weather...

I want a Navy game!
Dangerous Waters. It's pretty much every simulation by Sonalysts (one of the greatest Navy sim developers of the past decade) packed into one game. You can command pretty much any platform. I still have fond memories of playing Sub Command as a kid, stalking the Russian Carrier Kuznetsov in my Seawolf. (And having to Quick-Load about 20 times because I let an escort ship detect me, and subsequently got 20 torpedoes up the ass from Anti-Sub planes)

It's a good sim. Really in-depth, and even fun...if you can get past the learning curve, and have a really long attention span. Like a get-100%-in-every-mission-with-no-alarms-in-Splinter-Cell-Chaos-Theory kind of attention span. If you can get past that, it's a blast. Literally.
Plus it's on Steam.

Naval Ops Warship gunner and it's sequel on the PS2. Great games. Love the ship design aspect and the combat worked well.
Never played the first, still playing Warship Gunner 2, love it. Find a copy. Now.

Well Navy combat is more about someone sitting at a screen programming in targets and loading rounds into cannons. It isn't exactly the most action packed thing I reckon. Very difficult to market.

How about a Navy RPG. You play a regular enlisted, and regardless of which rating (aka class) you choose, you spend the entire game sweeping, mopping, and painting. The goal could be to log in four solid years of game time, at which point you could either burn the game, or keep playing for another four years. It goes with the gritty realism that developers are trying to work into games. I see this being released on the Wii (the numbchuck is a good controller for sweeping/mopping.)

Oh, come on! They don't sleep in the same beds at the same time. They at least rotate.

From what my friend in the Navy tells me, they just don't do much anymore. Naval warfare is extremely outdated, as the air force can pound down much more firepower than most of those big fortresses on the sea.

The Navy is a bit harder of a sell, ship combat if not in space isnt exactly marketable. Because honestly what would any game about the navy (that doesnt include the seals) wouldnt just be an over glorified version of battle ship? Also navy war fare peeked in WWII, now the aircraft carrier is king.
Why make it a ship battle game, how about we grab the Navy YMCA style? it would make in interesting singing and dancing game don't you think?

Classic, I like your jokes.

Ah, but the secert subs all around the oceans is what controls half of the U.S. Nuclear Armament. Also, the few Super Destroyers that the U.S. employs could delete islands like Japan, edges of China, and pretty much everywhere thats near the ocean(downside) in a matter of mere minutes without nuclear/bio weapons.

Otherwise, the Navy is lacking. They are more of the transporters for the Air Force.

some of the Games from the medal of honor series have allowed you to play as a a member of the navy. One of the games actually placed you in the pearl harbor attack.
Thats kinda retarded, why would you want to fight a battle you know your going to lose?

yeah, it's called hotbunking (stop that snickering!!!) where you go to sleep, then wake up and get out of your bed to start your shift just in time for another person who has just finished their shift to crawl into the now vacated but still warm bunk and fall asleep.

OT: Silent hunters 3 or 4 are excellent choices if you are looking more for simulation or action based naval warfare as opposed to strategy. being a submarine commander would be cool.
