I'm certain they've never done this animal before-

Man. Seriously, there's not one pokemon that resembles a man. Unless you count Ditto that cute pink slime critter who can appear to look like anything it wishes. Not even sure if it has a gender or not at all.
Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee would be the men, as they are based off of Jet Lee and Jackie Chan. :)

Darn ninja'd**
unitetional pun or intetional?
ot:Is there a domestic dog pokemon not aa wolf just a domestic dog?
Eevee is my guess at domesticated dog. Or that ninetails pokemon.

I dont believe they have done a Discus (fish) pokemon...

Mantis: Scyther.
Stick Insect: Sudowoodo would be my best guess
Raptor probably won't be done until next gen. They always have ~2 prehistoric animals a gen.
The only thing that makes Scyther look similar to a prey mantis is that they're both green.

I'll allow them to make something resemble closer.
Scythe-hands, wings, body... none of that strikes you as similar? =|
As for Sudowoodo, I said "my best guess"
I know he looks nothing like a stick insect, but I can't imagine them making an actual stick insect. Sudowoodo is probably the closest they'll make.
They don't have scythe hands, they capture prey under claws, but they can fly witch I just learned. The body is nothing a like though, that's the unique pray mantis bit it misses.

Looked over the thread some and I'm gonna throw out some of my semi-expertise. Though if you're sure I'm 100% wrong feel free to correct me.

There has been no dolphin so far.

Actually, Hitmonlee is based off Bruce Lee. Otherwise it'd probably be Hitmonli. Since that's how you spell Jet's last name.

Spinda (panda) , Baroach (Shrimp) , and Blaziken (badass chicken) from ruby and sapphire.
And a zebra was in Black and White
Barboach is in no way a shrimp or anything close to it. It's a catfish.
EDIT: Actually it's a loach, my mistake. I was thinking of Whiscash, it's evolved form.

Then I direct your attention to this.
If you are too lazy to go to it, it lists Scyther as "The Mantis" Pokemon.
Under physiology, it says:
<quote=Bulbapedia>Scyther resembles a primarily green, human-sized praying mantis with accents of cream coloration. It has large, blade-like forearms and a pair of cream-colored wings. Its head is reptilian rather than insect in shape, with three small points, and its feet possess three claws. So you see, the differences you notice, are just an artist taking artistic initiative and making it look cool.
Yes, I know praying mantis look badass, but if every pokemon looked exactly like the animal it was based off of, Pokemon wouldn't be the same.

Clearly, we need something considerably more alien and horrifying.

I suggest a lamprey.

Also, swordfish?
Need someone dual-wielding swordfish instead, I'd say.

Linoone is more of a ferret I thought.

OT: I don't think they've ever done a hippo pokemon...
Hippopotas/Hippodown have hippo covered...
What about something like the barnacles from the Half-Life universe? Or a... erm...

Nope :D

Here is the link to the detailed page about Garbador, the evolution of Trubbish.
Also, Muk and Grimer did it first, but they are based off of nuclear waste more than garbage itself.

This thread makes me realize it's been a long time since I've watched Pokemon or played any games.

By the way the zebra is Zebstrika, Barboach is supposed to be a loach type... Is that a kind of shrimp?

And furthermore, http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Leavanny_(Pok%C3%A9mon) from 5th gen. I think they've got the mantis covered.

Well, we definitely have a kangaroo. We covered that in Gen 1 with Kangaskhan.

Uhhh...this is Pokemon, remember? I realize it's not directly based off one. But it's an extinct animal that was close enough to what they made.
And remember, they take creative liberties when creating these, ok?
Rampardos at least somewhat bears a resemblance.

Try telling me that thing looks anything like the Mudkip family, which is based off of it.
