Someone already said it, but none of them. Cross mediums and cultures is bad. Also, part of the reason there are so many animes is because they are cheaper to make than live action. They also tend to do completely outlandish things.

For those of you who do not know who Avi Arad is, he produced the Bratz movie, Elektra, Blade: Trinity and will be working on the Mass Effect and Uncharted movies. If you can only pick one person to hate, make it him.

Macross would make a bloody brilliant live action adaptation. Just imagine a mix of Transformers and Battlestar Galactica (2003), and you'd have a very rough approximation of how it could play out.
first things first, it would have to be a trilogy instead of just one movie, to allow for better pacing and development without infodumping
that said something based on macross or patlabor would be great, gundam...maybe, so long as a) it does not tie into any of the pre established contunuities (clear slate, allows a tad more creative freedom and avoids the sticky issue of retcons) and b) a decent effort is actually made by the scriptwriters and actors. In short, don't let it be G-saviour all over again.
and for those complaining that hollywood would just botch it, the solution is easy, don't use hollywood, go to someone else, there are film industries outside of the US
