The Zeldas, Final Fantasies, and Metal Gear Solids are the main ones that spring immediately to mind, and there's a good chance I never will. A lot of other's I haven't played, but I'm far too lazy to think of them and list them.

Half Life 2 - the first game didn't leave a very good impression, so I doubt this game will amaze me.

Any GTA after the 3rd installment.

Any classic Snes titles.

-Planescape Torment
-Final Fantasy VII
-Deus Ex

Those are the first that come to mind when thinking of classic games i have not played but probably should have.
My problem is that i missed out on them in their time and i am not backwards compatible. Once I grow accustomed to a certain standart of graphics and overall game mechanics, games that lie to far behind that standart can't pull me in as they used too. For example i LOVED Baldurs Gate and Baldurs Gate 2 at their time, but nowdays i cant get myself to replay them, I always loose interest after some time.

I've never played Deus Ex, Half Life, anything considered good on N64 and Gamecube, Diablo 2.
There's a ton more, but I can't think of any.

The two that have escaped me to this day just fit into your 10 year rule:

Silent Hill 2
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

I didn't have a lot of money or time for games 2002-2006 so I missed many a game that I have slowly been catching up on - highlights included Beyond Good and Evil and Knights of the Old Republic. Still haven't played Final Fantasy 12 either, but I own it, I've played every other FF, just need to get around to that.

Pretty much everything older than N64/PSone era, because that's when I started actively gaming. Oh wait, that's not entirely true. I had the first version of gameboy too, that good ol' grey brick with some classic games.

I'll let this one slide if you promise you will play them!

Edit: Has it really been 10 years already? It feels like yesterday

I've played most of them.
Only big one I can think of is Metroid, and honestly I had never even heard of metroid before playing super smash bros and neither had any of my friends so I'm not sure if it was ever really up there with mario and zelda in terms of popularity.

I played a lot of the early PC games at a friends house but not really enough to know what they were about, though people rarely bring up Baldur's Gate or Quake or Tribes when talking about classic games so maybe it wouldn't count anyways.

Let me see, quite a few actually. I've never played a Zelda game, a Mario game, a Sonic game, no Silent Hill, no Metal Gear, no Final Fantasy, no Prince of Persia. Actually anything older than 2003 I haven't really played with the exception of Pacman and Tetris.

Any of the Zelda games. One of my close friends is a massive Zelda fan and I'm glad he doesn't bug me to play them like I thought he would.

Thanks to the power of emulators, promotional rereleases, and college friends who still had a working NES, I've TRIED more than a few classic games. Still, one that sticks out to me that I've never played is Doom. When I was into shooters, it was in the era of Red Faction, so Doom was thoroughly outdated. Nowadays, on top of the outdatedness, I prefer WRPGs.

Off-topic: Although I admire the glass at the museum in Corning, Gorilla Glass can kiss my ass.

Castlevania, Final Fantasy (practically any of them), Silent Hill, Contra, Starcraft, Banjo Kazooie, Goldeneye, Chrono Trigger, Doom, any Resident Evil, any Metal Gear before MGS4...I was basically absent for the ENTIRE 'golden era', having been a handheld person practically until the PS3. Basically any classic game that is played 'in the childhood' people put on a pedestal I have no idea about.

Most of the titles that were exclusively released on Nintendo home consoles. I didn't buy a SNES until last year and I started out with the Sega Mega Drive way back when. Exceptions are the Final Fantasy series (If ports/remakes count), Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Super Ghosts N Ghouls and Mario 1 - 3 & World and a brief go at The Legend of Zelda.

Most Pre-2000 PC games. Exceptions being Command & Conquer, C&C: Red Alert, X-com UFO Defense, Warcraft 2, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars & The Smoking Mirror.

Also: Metal Gear Solid. A friend brought MGS3 round for me to try and I spent the first half an hour waiting for the cutscenes to finish so I could start to play the game. I know it's a bit of a cliché thing to knock it for but it isn't entirely inaccurate.

I was going to say Psychonauts, but your draconian 10 year cut off ruined that for me.

I could say "Tie Fighter", but it's not really still talked about today.

You've covered all your bases, sir.
Ever since the Star Wars/EA news broke I've heard...well read more and more people saying "please make a new Tie Fighter" so...(I haven't played Tie Fighter either)

---

The Original Half-Life
The Original Metal Gear
Custer's Revenge (isn't that the gaming equivalent of...a snuff film though?)
Super C
Contra 3
Any point-n-click by Lucasarts (like Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island or, Grim Fandango)
Silent Hill
Theif series
Original Deus Ex
Baulder's Gate anything
Diablo 2
Pre-WoW Warcraft
Super Metroid (that's going to be .30 on the eShop soon isn't it?)
Earthbound
River City Ransom

---

I think the Contra and, Custer's Revenge are the only ones people aren't really talking about anymore but everything else should still be...kinda relevantish I suppose...maybe.

Silent Hill 2. I somehow avoided spoilers for 12 years, and I was really looking forward to playing it last weekend, but... you know... [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.407322-What-little-thing-pissed-you-off-today]

Half-Life 2. It may not be a decade old, buuuut very close to it now.

And God knows I have I tried to play the game! But I get oddly enough motion sickness while I am normally fine with all other first-person games. I'm even cool with racing sims. I don't know what's wrong with me and Half-Life 2.

I really wish I didn't have to stop playing after 5-10 minutes every time I try to progress in the game. And I wish I didn't feel like throwing up when I played a bit more than that.
