Yeah. Nihilism. People still seem to think I give a shit. Does my head in something fearsome...
Welcome to the world of organized religion. I say screw it and just live a good life. I know that some of the things I do will offend God and I do apologize, but I refuse to believe in some of the things in that stupid book. Such as people who do not believe in my beliefs do not pass Go and head straight to hell, even if they are some of the greatest people in history. I refuse to believe that Mohandes Ghandi is roasting right now.Ringas said:But then that means your going to hell? The bible clearly states that gays are to be put to death so by supporting them you are going against god.AvsJoe said:I hate when someone finds out I'm Christian, they automatically assume I hate gays. That bugs the crap out of me. Yes, there are a couple of passages in the bible that say negative things about it, but I'm all for homosexuality.
And Religion isn't flexible?FightThePower said:The flexibility of science is a strength, not a weakness.faceless chick said:Science is NEVER RIGHT, since it's ever-changing.
I wasn't saying religion isn't flexible, I was merely saying that the fact knowledge obtained Science is constantly changing is a good thing, not a bad thing.skywalkerlion said:And Religion isn't flexible?FightThePower said:The flexibility of science is a strength, not a weakness.faceless chick said:Science is NEVER RIGHT, since it's ever-changing.
(Sorry if I make a mis-guided generalization here, I thought that's what you were getting at)
No, it's dogmatic.skywalkerlion said:And Religion isn't flexible?
Wait a sec. So you're saying that because science is ever-changing that it is flexible? That means that, if science is changing the results to studies are different, meaning we can't count on science to be right. I don't see how this is a strength.FightThePower said:The flexibility of science is a strength, not a weakness.faceless chick said:Science is NEVER RIGHT, since it's ever-changing.
The strength of science is that it is ever changing to accomodate the latest evidence and most compelling argument.Srassy said:Wait a sec. This is true but it doesn't really add to the strength of science as we don't currently know whether our theories of now will be thrown away in the future so we don't know if we can trust what we currently have.Skeleon said:The strength of science is that it is ever changing to accomodate the latest evidence and most compelling argument.Srassy said:Wait a sec. It's how we make progress.
We throw away theories that don't fit and are disproven to make room for new ones, better ones.
How is that not a strength?
Admitting when you are wrong is important.
Well, that's is true, but what's established is the best we have at the moment, supported by the most evidence.Srassy said:This is true but it doesn't really add to the strength of science as we don't currently know whether our theories of now will be thrown away in the future so we don't know if we can trust what we currently have.

OT: Im not a believer however i dont like the term "athiest"
i just thinks religion is kinda (you now... the opposite of smart)
Did you know that some scientists refuse to publish a thesis written by a creationist? I'm sure it works the other way around too but the thing is that we don't even know if the evidence is true and that scientists themselves on both sides aren't completely biased. The thing is that there is no such thing as conclusive evidence as there is always reasonable doubt.Skeleon said:Well, that's is true, but what's established is the best we have at the moment, supported by the most evidence.
Forgive me, but it's definitely stronger evidence than what religion has to offer.
Not saying religion is worse, just saying it's different.
We shouldn't act like religion and science were the same thing and try to force one into the other (for example, Intelligent Design).
Religion and science both have their place and they shouldn't get in each others' way in my opinion.
Well, yes, because there's no evidence to support it. Credible science magazines wouldn't print such a thing.Srassy said:Did you know that some scientists refuse to publish a thesis written by a creationist?
