I wept when I realized how much I was an asshole to the rival in Pokemon Red.

His grandfather cared more about me than him, I killed his Ratticate, and then, after he achieved his only dream of being the Champion, I took that from him and left him behind.

He's the most depressing character ever.
And you named him, "Douche" by taking advantage of his obviously senile grandfather. Way to go.

The possessed boy in Redcliffe ... the first time I went through, he was killed by his mother. I was really shocked by the quality of the writing and the voice acting. Sure, in games we regularly see entire kingdoms put to the sword and death en masse, but when you have to stand aside and watch a young mother kill her only son ... *sniffle*

Listening to these [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCJBOZC7XdQ] normally makes me think.

Either that or the good ending of Bioshock.

In Mass Effect 2 when on Tali's loyalty mission. That mission was an emotional wringer. You actually get to see how lost and frustrated the Quarian people are about the loss of their homeworld and trying to come to the terms with the fact that they created a race of beings and the dire ramifications it has on their people and Tali.

Again when you ask Legion why he attached the N7 armor to himself, specifically and he replies, almost afraid and confused, 'No data available'. It highlights how the Geth are morphing into sentient beings who are beginning to think and feel.

Also in the Mass Effect 2 DLC pack, Arrival. The moment where the VI asks if you want to continue with crashing the asteroid into the Mass Relay and the resulting casualties will be over 320 000 batarians. The way Shepard hesitates and suddenly everything becomes quiet really hit home for me. It was deeply personal. You realise how you have no choice but to kill 320 000 innocent people. Watching that argument later, also, where Shepard is clearly frustrated and arguing that 320 000 batarians had to die to save trillions. It was certainly a very moving moment for me.

Fallout 3, I hadn't been doing the quest, and this was my first playthrough, I had heard that Rivet City was a large place, so I endeavored to find it, then I realized that I had just accidentally found my Father, this surprised me, as I thought I'd have to find out where he was before I was allowed to, you know, find him.

The end of Shadow of the Colossus, when you're getting sucked into the fountain, and you realise that you've roamed he land, far and wide, fighting things hundreds of times your size, sacrificed your last shreds of humanity, and seen the death of the only living thing that was there to help you, and it has all come to naught. You've lost. Game over. You gave everything you had and now you have nothing left.
Yes, the girl gets brought back to life and you're turned into a baby, but you don't know that. The player doesn't know until after it's happened, and Wander doesn't get informed ever. I thought it was a rather interesting moment in gaming. It's not often you get sad endings outside of the survival horror genre. Not to mention just the saddest thing I've ever seen. Big mighty super-colossus reduced to a stumbling baby...damn I love that game.

Pretty much the entirety of Persona 3. It was an emotional rollercoaster for me, and I'm not ashamed to admit that a few parts brought me close to crying like a 12-year-old girl.

Edit: Such a freaking awesome game, but I missed the fact [spoiler/]that you died at the end.[/spoiler] on my first playthrough. Didn't realize it til someone told me later. I still haven't played Person 3: FES yet, because I only have a PS3 and PSP, and I refuse to pay 200 bucks for something, when Sony should've just kept the backwards compatability on their PS3. I have Shadow of the Colossus and Kingdom Hearts, just sitting here, unused, because I bought them before I realized my PS3 couldn't play them...

The end of Assassin's Creed 2 because - at that point - I was sure that was the last I'd see of Ezio, with his final thoughts being "I don't understand". All things considered, that was a pretty profound ending to his character.

Also, if you read all of Altair's codex pages, they have a similar effect - which when considering how dull Altair was in AC, is very impressive.

The award is split between the endings of the Sands of Time and Mafia however, but I think I possibly prefer SoT's these days. He had to grow up, and move on, because things were beyond his control. I think that's something which is hugely relatable for most people in one way or another.

Something that really got to me was the torture sequence in Metal gear solid 3, (where Volgin beats the bejeezus out of Snake) it really got to me for some reason. Also, the cut scene after you defeat the boss made me die a little inside :(

And in Crysis 2, where you figure out that Alcatras cant talk because his lungs (Or whatever controls speech) are so messed up that he is physically unable to speak. That really got to me *sniffle*

The entire ending part of The Sands of Time. That is, everything after the magic bath scene... I mean, just... wow...

I must say, mine is Heavy Rain. C'mon. A dad on a quest to save the only thing he has left that's actually worth something to him. The Game has the passion and the depressing atmosphere to make it a very touchy game, that stands out from the few. I dont know if this is what you wanted to know?

Persona 4.
Said it before, I'll say it again, Nanako dying. Jesus christ, that was the closest I've ever gotten to crying in a game, the only thing stopping me was that my brother was in the room
That was really depressing.

Also, Metro 2033, near the end, one of your allied guys is scripted to get killed by a nosalis or whatever. It really got to me for some reason, I dunno. It just did.

Mass Effect 2, Legion's loyalty mission.

Female Shepard has a genocidal, sapient machine species at her mercy. Legion asks if they should blow them up, or reprogram them.

Not only do I have to take the action, but I know that through Legion, a race of alien intelligences is watching me, to see what is the right thing to do.

The ending scene to CoD4, and the mission the OP described. I almost cried when I sent Wheatley into space in Portal 2 :(.

The ending of Medal of Honor (the new one) was a powerful moment for me because of the way they made you see it and the follow up to it.

Me too. Except that I did shed some tears. My god was that sad. The Persona team really knows how to tug at my heart strings.

Probably most of Halo Reach. I read "The Fall Of Reach" and I knew exactly what would happen in the game, even though Noble Team weren't in the book, but I felt much more connection to those characters than I ever did with Master Chief.
