I had the same revelation a while ago. I started modeling tanks and even making my own. it can be kinda pricey getting all the paints but after that it's mostly just buying the kits for ten to twenty dollars

You'll need a starter deck, some dice, and someone to play with.

Hiking, soccer, target practicing (with pellet rifles,bows,etc), play an instrument, watch plays, see local bands play, having fun with science(smoke bombs, gadgets, neat pranks and tricks), whittling, find used boxing equipment and work out, building models, collect things
there are al lot you can do without electronics but it wouldn't hurt to invest in a cheap ipod or mp3 player.

Guitar, you could probably pick up a started electric guitar kit for about $100 at somewhere like musician's friend (USA only) or other places.

I"d say try out Magic: The Gathering. For $100, I say try getting some friends together, or find a local store that has "Friday night magic", and play drafts. They cost maybe $12, you get 3 packs, and you and usually 7 others sit around a table, opening the packs, taking a card out, and passing the rest around the table until everyone's packs all the cards are taken, then everyone makes a deck using said cards, after adding an appropriate amount of basic land which the store should provide, and you play some sort of tournament. It's a great and relatively cheap way to get into Magic, and if you find a store that supports FNM, they also give out 30-card half decks for free, and they're great for teaching you the basics of how to play, and the community, by and large, is pretty helpful.

Homebrewing. For roughly $100, you could get all of your equipment, a how-to book, and ingredients for your first batch of beer. Beyond the first batch, all of the equipment is reusable and each additional batch could be around $30, depending on the ingredient list and your experience with the hobby. It's great fun (if you like that sort of thing), and it'll turn you into a beer geek really quickly.
Oh yeah, and having a constant supply of a shitload of extra beer around is a really good way to make friends.

This is a good suggestion. I've been into pen and paper role-playing for ages, and it costs me so little (not a collector, unlike some friends which burn hundreds of dollars). If your google fu is strong, you can get whatever you need.AgentBJ09 said:

I'll also suggest liar's dice, all you need is about 5 dice per person and a cup each. During a black-out last night I played it with a few friends for an hour.
How about wood carving? Or you can start making your own furniture. Most of the good ones have been suggested.
