Gurren Lagann and FLCL. Those two animes were... touching and had BRILLIANT feel-good moments, like the bit in FLCL where Naota finally swings the bat and saves Mabasa. I almost jumped out of my chair and cheered!

and whenever i hear "mine is the drill that will pierce the heavens!" I smile.

Clannad movie. Made me cry more than anything I've ever experienced in entertainment. It wasn't just a couple of tears either.
So I usually go on about how emotional it is whenever someone brings up Clannad.

Ranma 1/2. It's got a quirky enough story that my friends are interested to hear about, if not necessarily read for themselves.

They're hardly the most well-read people though, if that's discouraging you.

I mean, how can you go wrong with Martial Arts Calligraphy, or Martial Arts Food Delivery?

Star Driver: Takuto of the Radiance: Because it's possibly my favourite thing Studio Bones have put out ever! Yes, I class it higher than FMA and I LOVE that series and own all of the DVDs and the movie.

Cowboy Bebop: I think it's something that can only be achieved once every so often. It's got great writing, the animation has aged well and the voice acting was well done.

Tsubasa/xxxHOLiC (manga): It's the crossover of the series that makes them special because they're both equally great stories and artwork.

Kobato.: It's my favourite character design of any manga because CLAMP loves their detail and then changing to chibi for one panel xD

Oh yeah, One Piece. Whenever somebody brings it up they are giving me a license to take over the next two hours of conversation for myself.

If it counts...

... You know what, fuck it, even if it doesn't count, because the only real anime I enjoy even half as much as it is Full Metal Alchemist...

Avatar: The Last Airbender. I think it's the best cartoon, anime or not, ever made.

Naruto. It's gotten so bad whenever my mum asks me "Is that...that thing from the anime you watch?" in reference to my Sharingan necklace I hear the 'Naruto door' opening and just ramble!!

Spice and Wolf. :) Holo is one of the best characters ever.

Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and YuYu Hakusho.

They are just pure awesome poured onto animation programs.

Look at my avatar and custom title. Answer should be obvious.

Other things on that list are El-Hazard: The Magnificent World, Ranma 1/2, and anything by Miyazaki.

Dragon Ball Z.
If I wanted to watch an anime series where nothing happens for 30 minutes I'll go watch Lucky Star.

The moment they stuck a Z on Dragon Ball it changed into something terrible.

My list of recommendations would include El-Hazard: The Magnificent World and Cowboy Bebop for different reasons.

Tenchi Muyo's pretty decent as well, and makes a good study on where harem-series come from.
