Im pretty sure there will be no HL3 or ep3. Valve wouldnt be so stupid. They will wait, wait and wait. They will announce it in some super epic way like 2 hours before it comes to stores. They will blow up the world with their marketing. Thats the kind of thing I wait from Valve.

1) Black Mesa Theme Park, with Team Fortress paintball arena.

2) Reboot of the Half-life franchise, done as MMORPG.

3) Valve merger with Activision.
That TF2 Paintball would be awesome! I think the surprises are:

1. New Source Engine

2. Meet the Pyro/Medic

3. A full Team Fortress 2 Video Series. Just as a teaser for their Half-Life Movie. It will be filled with Easter Eggs that will reveal the release date for the actual movie or Half Life 3.

Given the quality of their E3 surprise:

TF2 updates on 360.
Portal 2 now includes hats
Vavle is spelt with a V.

1 Team Fortress 3
2. Half Life 3
3. Dota... 3

A triple threat match for the WWE Title! Oh wait...

They are going to release all of these on the same day and all for only one console or JUST the computer. So if you want to play it, you better have more then one computer on hand. And if you don't, then you will fall behind! YOU WILL BECOME A NOOB!

My guess is Episode 3.

Maybe some bad attempt on humor?

If it's anything other than Half Life Episode 3, then I don't care. Stop with the wall of silence Valve and release some info.
Part of me agrees, but after I read this:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6112889/index.html

I understand why they might want to stay quiet until they're ABSOLUTELY sure things are going to work out.

A new engine, Team Fortress 3? I dunno. And something console related. Maybe Steam on consoles.

By no means will it be Half Life 3, Half Life Episode 3, or anything Half Life related. And you know what? I don't really care. Valve can do what they want. They're a damn good dev.
tf3 better gets the same characters, or the engy-comic-characters
that would be awesome.
i hope a completely new awesome game, and tf3, and the new source engine

It doesn't matter what the surprises are, Valve will fail anyway.

Why?

One single true fact:

Duke Nukem Forever will be released before Half Life 2 episode 3

Gabe Newell: "We wish to announce one of our big surprises today. In an astounding act of generosity, Activision has purchased Valve Corporation and now is aiding in running and management of both Valve, and STEAM itself. Further updates to TF2 and L4D series are going through them, and will be priced at $15 per map."

Besides the very obvious long awaited game that they'll undoubtedly reveal next year, the other two choices will probably be two of the following:
-Source Engine 3
-A new IP
-A DLC for Portal 2
-A DLC for Left 4 Dead
-Valve games for Linux

When that day comes, I'll replace my avatar with a photo of Bobby Kotick and the words "Kill Him" in big flaming letters.

According to PC Gamer, the TF2 Mannconomy update is one of the surprises but I didn't read anywhere a confirmation from Valve. At least I hope that PC Gamer is wrong because if that's one of them then I'm really dissapointed.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/09/30/interview-valve-on-why-theyre-selling-team-fortress-2-items-for-real-money/
Team Fortress 2's lead designer Robin Walker offered to answer our questions before the update went up, to help clarify the thinking behind this - the first of three big surprises Valve have planned in the next twelve months.

I'm pretty sure that the second surprise is DOTA and the third hopefully ep3/hl3 because E3 2011 is during these 12 months. It's most likely that they'll announce ep3/hl3 at E3.

1. A new skin/redesign for Steam
2. A new DLC for L4D2
3. New hats for TF2

There, that would about cover it as far as Valve goes...
Actually that sounds about right.

Valve will announce a 1st person MMO based on the half life universe.
Valve will announce that Gordon Freeman is gay. (as if we didn't already know)
Valve will announce a new pay as you play model for their online multi-player shooters.

Just hope I am wrong.
