I know this topic has been done before, but I haven't seen one in awhile. So what game(s) have you been playing lately? Also please tell us a little bit about it and your experience with it instead of just listing the title.

Currently getting in one last playthrough of Mass Effect 2 before the next one comes out. Gotta get my save files all nice and ready to be imported. As for the game itself, well... it's ME2. Not much I can say that hasn't been said hundred of times before. Great characters, good storytelling, good graphics, cool music, unremarkable combat, shitty planet scanning.

Also been playing Planescape: Torment on-and-off for about a year now. It's... ehh, not really sure. Setting is refreshingly different, story has lots of potential despite the whole amnesia thing, characters aren't anything special (at least not yet). Combat is pretty dull, although it improved when I became a mage. Interface is a clunky mess. Really don't like the old-fashioned dialogue system either, feels more like navigating a menu than having a conversation.

Also, pre-loading Kingdoms of Amular now. The demo was fun enough to warrant a purchase.

Skyrim; I've been playing it for a few months now and still can't quite escape from it. After Oblivion I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

Batman Arkham City; Finished it a while ago but only just got the nightwing and the new challenge map dlc so I've been back on it again for those.

Uncharted 3; Only just discovered the multiplayer on this and again was pleasantly surprised at how well it works.

Portal 2; I've played it about 20 times through now, but I love the story-telling and the dialogue. I always seem to discover something new every time.

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction

I will never get tired of playing this game over and over again.

Starting a new game has pretty much become a ritual for me when it comes to Mercenaries, plus sometimes I need to check something up so I can edit the wiki.

Dragon Age : Origins.
I must say i'm deeply disappointed. I expected spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate Saga and all i got was one big, predictable, cliched remake of NWN2. I'm still shocked. :|

Not much. The occasional bout of League of Legends and some Flash games. I'm writing my graduation paper and gaming isn't very much on my mind. But as soon as I'm done, I'm getting myself Kingdoms of Amalur and binging out on some open-world fantasy RPG goodness...

Freespace and KOTOR 2.

Freespace is lots of space-combat fun, but I am pretty terrible at it. I just failed 3 times on a mission a little over 1/3 of the way through the game, so I'm taking a break right now. First use of a joystick I've had in about 10 years, after buying a serial-to-USB converter. Looking forward to Freespace 2 after this.

edit after another hour or so of play: Oh my god this game is awesome. I've now got two missions left in the second act (out of 3). I haven't played the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games for a while (~10 years), but I'm thinking this has rocketed to the top of my space combat sim list, and the top of all joystick-controlled games too.

KOTOR 2 has one of the slowest and most boring starts to a game I have ever played (the opening area took about 4 hours and should've been 2 at most), but I'm a little over 9 hours in now and it's picking up. Very much just more of KOTOR 1 though, gameplay-wise. The story is much less good vs. evil cliche though, which is nice. I'll be interested to see where that goes (though I've heard the ending is a huge letdown).

Fallen Earth - not doing much levelling, more focused on working on my crafting skills. It's taken me almost two and a half years of on/off play to reach level 34 (of 55.) I'm in no rush.

Half Life 2 - I'm not a fan of the original but I decided to give this a go with the recent story about the mass play of the game. It certainly plays better than the original.

And I'm seriously considering reviving my World of Warcraft account. Unlike FE I don't greatly enjoy the atmosphere of that game, but as a pure gameplay challenge* it's an itch I have to scratch.

[sub]*Not the levelling - the levelling is ridiculously easy these days and requires no skill, only time - but I enjoy soloing the 5 man dungeons.[/sub]

Hi. Not to come across fanboyish or anything, I'm not going to diss you for critizing something I like (actually, something I love/regularly rub against my genitals), but if you call Torment's characters "nothing special", I'm just wondering about the astronomical height of your standards. :)

Ya gotta have standards, I agree! I think people aren't nearly demanding enough these days.

But Torment's characters, the absolute pinnacle of characters IMO, not anything special? I'm baffled.

I'm VERY eager to meet the characters you're used to. I honestly am. I would welcome them. Apparently I'm missing out.

Victoria 2. Steam had a time limited sale on that one, and I even had a coupon.

It's a grand scale strategic, economic and political game set in the era of industrialization. Most of the focus is on diplomacy, economy and statistics and less on warfare. It's a very deep simulation and it certainly doesn't lack numbers. It does lack some ways to manage those numbers, I always need more graphs in these kind of games, or at least a way to export data to a spreadsheet.

I didn't like the first one much, so I was cautious of buying the sequel. But they seem to have improved on the concept, and so far it has proven an enjoyable time-waster.

I generally like my strategy games to have more units to move, so Hearts of Iron 3 is more up my alley. But so far I do enjoy the economic and political intricacies of Victoria 2.

Well, you'll note that I said "at least not yet". That's because I'm not that far into the game. Haven't even gathered the whole party yet, I just went through the "pregnant" ally.

However, no, the characters thus far have not exactly impressed me. They're certainly not bad, but they're nothing to write home about. There's Morte, the wisecracking sidekick who isn't anywhere near as funny as the developers think he is. There's Annah, who is just... kinda there. According to her description she's supposed to be impulsive and reckless, but that doesn't come through in her actions or dialogue. Lastly there's Dakkon who doesn't seem to have any defining characteristics at all. He has plenty of interesting things to say, but it's all just background information on his race (he reminds me of Tali in ME1 in that way).

Part of my problem is the lack of voice acting. A good voice actor can pack a lot of nuance and characterization into the tone and delivery alone, but these older game don't have that tool to work with.

Don't do it man , do not revive your wow account! After the number of time you talked about cataclysms flaws, i have a feelin you'll regret reviving it. ( you are like kne odthe three escapist memebers i actually reconize lol xD).

OT: Ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 and FFXIII-2.

Umvc3 , has got me back into the fighting game genre , been playing it for 3 months now and i'm still goin strong . I never realized how competitive i was till i started playing this . Really fun fast paced game that has you thinking al through the fights . The best moments for me are when i a) beat a wesker player , b) sucesfully predict what my opponent is going to do and c) make a comeback . The game is Easy to learn the basics , but learning how to play online is hard and takes perseverance if your new . It took me 500 online matches to reach a win/loss ratio of 1. But i taught myself to learn from every loss and the game just became a giant learning process.

FXIII-2,i don't even know where to begin with this game . I personally don't like it , and this is coming from a guy that LIKED FFXIII. The game for me seems boring. The only thing that they made better about the game was the combat and the leveling system , everything else, in my personal opinion, got worst . The game is less linear now so thats nice i guess ,i am really struggling to make heads or tails of the story, i can barely play 2 hours before getting discouraged and stop playing the game . I honestly can't say i'm dissapointed because i played FFX-2, and disliked it , so i expected the same.

I see.

Well, I prefer lack of voice acting, actually. For the same reasons I like to read books. You fill it in with your imagination. And PS:T is exceptionally well written indeed, but it's a game, and we expect other things from games than from books. I understand that, even though I don't agree.

But you're right, it's kinda early in the game. Good characters go through arcs, and PS:T's characters are no different. It really gets more interesting. Just stick with it ;)

Just finished Resistance 3 over the weekend, have been slowly struggling through FFXIII in order to get to XIII-2, and have just picked Rage back up after having abandoned it halfway through. Not to mention the half-dozen other games I'm "in the middle of" (Arkham City, Lego Potter 5-7, Deus Ex, Rayman Origins, etc.) And of course this month I have to finish up ME2, which I had to restart when I switched consoles and lost my save data. I'm close, so it'll be easy.

But all that gets shoved to the side for a while with KoA's release today.

Just done Assassin's Creed 1 and Bioshock. Now moving onto Assassin's Creed 2 and Fallout 3, but none of my mods are working for FO3 so it sucks arse.
