The Stand, by Stephen King. A jacked-up version of the flu destroys the world and they nickname it Captain Trips.....awesome.
I actually read that while I was sick. Give it a LOT more punch.
Lol. I first picked it up during the whole swine flu epidemic (I had stopped reading it for a while. I just picked it up recently.). How's that for timing?

This thread. Style's all over the place, and little attention is paid to grammar and spelling. Characters are one-dimensional and highly unbelievable. Symbolism non-existent. F+.

I have to read The Pigman for school. Poorly written so far, characters are uninteresting, and in an attempt to "relate to teenagers," the dialogue sounds unnatural and forced. I have it 2 stars so far. Of course, I'm only on chapter 2...

I just finished The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett recently, and now I'm on Dave Barry's Greatest Hits.

I just finishes reading Ilium by Dan Simmons, and I'm looking forward to reading its sequel Olympos. Right now though, I'm reading Outliers.
I finished Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion recently. Dan Simmons' work is very good.

But atm, I'm reading Lord of the Rings. Tolkien ftw.
The Hyperion novels are insane. I absolutely loved that series. I literally shed a tear when I realized I'd finished the 4 books in the series.

Ever read the Otherland series, by Tad Williams? Not really like the Hyperion novels, but definitely badass Sci-fi/Fantasy. Also, CS Friedman has a great book called 'This Alien Shore' (She also wrote the Coldfire Trilogy). Sci-fi too, but really good.
No, I can't say I have read those. Thanks for pointing them out though, they'd defo go on my 'to read' list.
Have you read Issac Aisamov's work? All centered around robots but very good if you haven't read it. Just a collection of short stories, but some of them are really good.

I'm rereading Sunshine by Robin McKinley and Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones.
Hey that's great, did you watch the movie/anime of Howl's moving castle? I loved the movie but I'm still trying to get around to reading the book.

Currently I'm reading Watership Down by Richard Adams -- those rabbits really kick ass...
Yes, I saw the movie a while after I read the book. They're very different from each other but both enjoyable.

Watership Down is a very good book.
