Just finished The Long Halloween and I'm now reading Dark Victory.

Cookie for the first one to know what series that's from!

[small/]if you don't know then I'll be forced to cyberpunch you[/small]
that's part of the Year One Batman storyline done by Jeph Loeb

as for me right now i'm finishing up the Night Watch Series, really awesome Russian fantasy. it's classified as horror but really it's more fantasy

next boo up is The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum.

not sure what to read after that, the James Bond books or the Dresden series

Partially right.

Year One was originally done by Frank Miller but Jeph Loeb picked up the story 6 months after the end of it.

You still get a cookie. Well part of one.

Sadly, I'm not reading anything.
I can't find a new book to read at all. And my mom has yet to surprise me with some new ones.

Right now I'm reading I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb. It's about Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, identical twin brothers. Thomas is schizophrenic - he goes into a local library, sits down, and cuts his own hand off, because God told him that it would end the Gulf War (the book was written in the early 90's). Dominick struggles with helping his brother and sorting out his own messed-up life. It's kind of depressing, but interesting and well-written.

Re-reading 1984 for the tenth time. I really do love dystopian books, this one just happens to be my favorite so far.

An omnibus of H.G. Wells (Invisible Man, Island of Dr. Moreau, War of the Worlds, and The Time Machine) I got for about 5 bucks at Borders. Trying to find a copy of Q.E.D. by Richard Feynman

I have two years worth of Asimov's science fiction magazines my grandad sent me. Apparently I'm the only grandchild that likes science fiction and we bonded over it.

I was rather amused that the first story had a character with my name and the author was published by Golden Gryphon Press.

I'm reading Going Postal by Pratchett at the moment, it's ok. I happened to read Making Money first which is the sequel so maybe that's affecting it. Making Money is really hilarious though. Got Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy lined up after that. Looking forward to it.

About halfway through Atlas Shrugged. Finished the Alchemist for school which seemed like child's play compared to Ayn Rand's "magnum opus." Yeah, it's that deep.
How are you finding Atlas shrugged? I've heard its packed with her theories on Objectivism etc?
That's really the whole point of the book. While on its own I find it to be incredibly suspenseful, ridiculously deep, and fascinating in how real and three-dimensional her characters are it's still her case for Objectivism. The way she presents it and just the manner in how her theories are communicated to you as you read are quite groundbreaking. It's nearly impossible to describe the book because of just how epic in scope it is. I suggest reading it, whether you agree with Objectivism or not it's still a fantastic read. While it never says "Objectivism" in the book, the qualities and beliefs of the main characters who "stand against" the fall of the country's spirit and whom eventually cause its renewal are distinctly Objectivist. Their personal beliefs and moral code are what Ayn Rand is calling Objectivism.
Have you read the whole book? I've the read the 1st and am around halfway through the second out of the three that are in there. Overall I like it. The writing is really beautiful and descriptive. I found the climax of the 1st to be pretty satisfying, but I found myself rolling my eyes *SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS* when they happen upon the new motor in the abandoned car factory. I felt that the entire 1st book lead up to Dagny achieving her dream, and felt that Rand was sort of tacking on another 'goal' for her to achieve instead of exploring new waters. I don't know what happens but I found myself thinking 'oh here we go again'. I also didn't like how in some points, her character's conversations seemed to just be dialectic on the topic of Rand's Objectivism, with many characters acting as a Glaucon to Dagny's Socrates, allowing Rand to just blatantly spout her love of Capitalism and dreamers. I don't know, maybe I should pick it up again. But it certainly got tiring.

Well, I'm going to play a A Game of Thrones tonight so I'm looking over the A Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, and Storm of Swords rule books again. Other than that, Mutants & Masterminds rulebooks and The Marvels Project #1.
