I haven't played many games, but of the ones I have played, I'd say Portal is the only one that gets 10/10.

My favorite games (Silent Hill 2 and Riven) are probably closer to 8/10 looking at them more objectively, even though I love them more.

plus it's horrible to control the weapons
Maybe for you, I found the controls to be so god damned easy that stealth basically was unnecessery, even on Big Boss Extreme.

OP:
For me there are none, no game would have got a 10/10 on my scale of awsome, there have been a few nines though.

Just throwing this out there:

"I like it" doesn't mean "it's perfect." It is completely possible to like something you don't think is well-made, and to dislike something you think is well-made.

Also, saying something like "X game doesn't have a single flaw in my mind" is a flawed statement that ultimately leads to fanboy-ism. Like what you like but don't be blind to its flaws for defensive to valid criticism. I may love, love, love Final Fantasy 6, but the game has real issues (some I'd argue as OBJECTIVE *gasp* not the O word).

Like barbzilla, I'm tempted to put Deus Ex, but even that game had flaws. The AI and clunky combat make it more like a 9.8 in my book. I can't think of anything I'd put higher than that. Portal, maybe? I can't think of anything I didn't like about that off the top my head. Length wasn't issue because it wasn't a full priced game.

Other than those...

Planescape Torment had vanilla combat that was somehow less inspiring than Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate. Half Life had Xen. HL2 had Civil Protection, which were a big downgrade from the HECU as far as fun AI goes. System Shock 2 had those fricking breaking weapons and some confusing level design. Pretty much all my favorite games had at least one or two crappy things about them.

So what does it mean and why does it not mean something is perfect?

EDIT: Stoo-pid ninjas!
Thats why I said 'yours'. There is no such thing as a perfect game. Someone somewhere will not like a game for some reason. Thats why I asked which games are 10/10 for you, meaning what games are as close to perfect to you?
That's all well and good and I like to think that my first post in this thread answers that quite well. However, I don't think that your response answers my question. To me 10/10 means perfect which is why I have given my choices 9.8-ish. What does 10/10 mean to you if you don't think that it means perfect?

Well, that's what a whole fraction means to me. If 10 out of 10 isn't perfect, what do they give perfect games?
Since "perfect" is an irrelevant concept in a medium where appreciation is at least partially subjective (The best golf game in the world will entirely fail to entertain someone who hates golf games with a burning passion), trying to define any arbitrary score as "perfect" is a nonsense.

I think Bioshock is the best game I've ever played from an all around perspective, so I'd say it's a 10/10. I guess that depends on how you define a 10/10 though, as I'm sure Irrational could have done more.

Exactly.

If ideas on what perfection is can differ from person to person, how can anything be considered truly 'perfect'? If something were perfect, wouldn't part of it's perfection be universal appeal and praise?

All these points of there is no 'perfect' are invalid. Perfect is one of those subjective things.
For instance, a perfect game to me is one I enjoyed so immensely that it's flaws just don't matter. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Saints Row 2 come to mind for me. One is pretty poor quality glitch wise while delivering what I find to be wonderful gameplay and just all around gameworld mayhem fun (SR2) while the other has lack-luster at best fighting while delivering one of the best game stories I've ever experienced (Dreamfall).
I'd consider a lot of games to be perfect under my definition (making a list would be pointless as the responses would just be "that game isn't perfect!"), doesn't mean they're games that can't be improved in any way, just games that are completely worth their original prices, the effort of gameplay and are balanced with positives well beyond their negatives.

EDIT: Well. My point was already made by others while typing this out. xD

Perfection is an illusion so 10/10 for me means its a masterpiece.

Half life 2
Portal
Bioshock
Uncharted 2
Shadow of the colossus
Mass effect 2

Note: There are games that I consider 9/10 that are better then some games I consider 10/10 due to the 9/10 games only being held back by a few flaws.

Ocarina of Time, Portal, Starcraft 2, and Deus Ex. They aren't perfect, but I don't expect them to be. Even for a 10/10.

What the fuck? He just said perfection was an opinion, so clearly "universal appeal and praise" isn't part of it.

This is like saying since good and bad are opinions, there is nothing good or bad in the world. Arbitrary guidelines lead an arbitrary existence. No use dwelling on the semantics of it.

This is like saying that if a person doesn't believe Robert Downey Jr. is in the live action Iron Man movies, Downey Jr. might not be in, because if he was, why wouldn't it be universally accepted?

lol, oh god...
There are going to be so many people who get butthert in this thread...

As for me:
Starcraft 2, WC3 (particularly Frozen Throne), Portal, Zelda: OoT/MM, Halo: Reach, Shadow of Rome (only fault is there is no FUCKING SEQUEL), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken (first one to be released outside of japan), Ogre Battle 64, and... Banjo Kazooie.

All of these games get a 10/10 from me for: graphics, gameplay, story, humor, seriousness, character development, and growth of the series/genre.
