Also, is it just me or would a Myst-style game where you explore an island with today's graphics (possibly still going the pre-rendered route for maximum beauty) be particularly awesome?
I believe you're speaking of Myst IV?
Yes, that was 2004 or so, but it was damned pretty then and it's still damned pretty now. Plus, you get an in-game journal and camera.
Ah, I'd mistakenly assumed that all of the Myst games in existence were on GOG. Looks like I'll have to wait for this one to appear. It doesn't seem to be available for download anywhere presently.
Three is worth a purchase, as it has FREAKING BRAD DOURIF PLAYING THE BAD GUY. That's right, the actor behind horror icon Chucky starred in a Myst game. He's absolutely perfect for the part, and more than makes up for the face-clawing navigation in the Tree age.
Myst IV is just gorgeous, and really expands on Myst I. Find it too.
Also, you can play the spinoff MMO for free. (Yes, they made an MMO of Myst. And it's awesome, I think. And it's free. http://mystonline.com/en/ If you try it and get stuck, message me. I can help you out.)
I haven't played Myst V, but I'm under the impression that it's not very good.

The games stopped at five.
