10. Red Faction- One of the first PS2 games I ever picked up, and one of the first games of that "graphical quality" that I saw at the time. Everything about this game at the time felt so advanced to me, despite many first person shooters doing the same things. The shooter mechanics weren't even that great, they were average. I'm not sure what about this game stuck with me so much. Again, it might just have to do with it being an early PS2 title for me.
9. Crysis- Immersed me like no other game for years. The amazing visuals, the combination of full action and stealth based gameplay, and still manages to look pretty and play very well.
8. Resistance 2- Now I absolutely love the trilogy, but Resistance 2 was quite the visual upgrade from the first game, and felt smoother. I realize it's a bit simplified compared to the first game, but this game's set pieces still entertain me. The third game was very similar, but it's tone put my off a bit.
7. Metro 2033- I've played through it at least 6 times. I can't get enough of that game's atmosphere, how it draws you into believing this post-apocalyptic world actually exists, and you're a part of it. It's fantastically bleak, and visually stunning at times. The shooting itself feels a bit clunky, but it's perfectly serviceable, especially in the updated version.
6.Half Life 2- Didn't play it until I got it on the Orange Box for PS3, and was one of the first games I bought for the console. I replayed it countless times, and again on PC. I was completely absorbed with it's dynamic gameplay and engaging story. There's not much I can say that hasn't been discussed to death already.
5. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil- No, it's not a perfect game. No, it's not the best first person shooter on it's console. But this game series mean THE WORLD to me. I grew up playing Turok and Turok 2 extensively. I can beat the games in a matter of hours, in a single day. I obsessed over the strategy guide for Turok 2, and I'm absolutely exploding on the inside with excitement waiting for Night Dive Studio's remaster of this game.
4. F.E.A.R.- The second game I ever bought for my PS3. And then again for PC. It's sense of action and shooter gameplay was so awesome to me, the way a single gunfight can completely tear a room and it's walls to pieces, with debris flying everywhere while you slo-mo and kill squads of soldiers on your own.
3. Dying Light- Is this a FPS? There's guns. But they aren't the focus. I don't care. 90 hours. I played this game with multiple friends for just about 90 hours. It looks great, and running around the game's world with parkour is so much damn fun, slaying countless zombies and running scared shitless at night with your friends.
2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution- I'm going to say something controversial. I don't like the original Deus Ex. I find it too ugly, too clunky, and too boring to play. I didn't play it when it came out, and didn't own it until 2010. But it's 2011 game I adore. I love it's visual style, it's (mostly) open ended gameplay, and it's overall story. I love Adam Jensen for reasons I can't explain. Despite the hub worlds being actually quite small, their intricate interiors made it feel like a whole world with tons of options.
1. TBD- Yeah, it's a lazy cop- out, but there are a few first person shooters either recently released or upcoming for release that I genuinely feel like could make my list somewhere. Maybe not number 1, but maybe somewhere in the middle. So consider Deus Ex: HR to be my temporary #1 for now.
