Basically I haven't been deeply satisfied with an MMO for absolutely ages. So this is hopefully going to help me track down some descent ones. The only one I've played that I don't regret, and might consider going back to, is Pirates of the Burning Sea.

R.O.S.E Online
DEICIDE
FLYFF

they are the 3 most fun in my opinion but that was mostly due to my best friend playing with me

I personally don't really care for MMOs in general, but I will admit to enjoying Planetside when I can get it to work, and I play Guild Wars every so often. I'm looking forward to the Agency as a game that has a chance to prove that MMO doesn't always have to be followed by RPG.

I recommend:

1)City of Villains
2)City of Heroes
3) Age of Conan
Normal part - yes.
Bolded part - NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO.

Do I even have to explain why recommending AoC to anyone is the worst thing you can do? For Christ's sake, there is hardly an MMO more pointless and overhyped (and bad) than AoC.

Instead of AoC, try something good. And when I mean good, I don't mean "free", because the only half-good free MMO is RF Online and recently Tabula Rasa.

Other than that, Ragnarok Online is fun.

1: WoW
2: Guild Wars- before it died
3: Runescape (before Jagex saw fit to remove everything that made the game barely passible)

Although it hasn't come out yet, I'm looking forward to Infinity [http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=33]

Well, if I ranked the ones I've played:
Everquest for PS2
WoW - pre BC
Ragnarok Online

The MMO I'm most looking forward too? Star Wars: The Old Republic. I don't care what anyone says, Star Wars games never get all.

1)Asheron's Call
2)Dark Age of Camelot
3)Planetside

All three of which used to be amazing back in the day, but eventually the developers essentially "fixed something that wasn't broken" and turned these games into dim shadows of their former glory.

you sir, get a box of win for your first suggestion. My uncle played that so much when i was younger and i loved it.

personally, I thought AC was the best for a long time. I think the Warhammer one is pretty decent but Im really looking forward to the Monster Hunter one that hopefully will have a beta released to europe soon :D

There is this one company out of Boston that's got some potential to make a really cool MMO. If you know who Todd McFarlane and R.A. Salvatore are...well they're both working together on a project being bank rolled by Redsocks pitcher Curt Schilling. They have been incredibly tight lipped about it thus far but they are going to be releasing a lot of new information about it this year.

  • [li]#1: City of Heroes/City of Villains
As a 1400+ hr veteran it warms my heart to see people recommending it, but come on, it's the same game - you can't even buy them separately anymore.[/li]

    [li]#2: Warhammer Online
Mythic has pretty much created the latest and greatest EQ RvR-style game. You might disagree if you're into WoW, but then, who's surprised: you're into WoW, you poor sheeple.[/li]

[li]#3: Shin Megami Tensai Imagine [http://megaten.aeriagames.com/]
There's a lot of leeway here because it's free, but other than that it's the typical Eastern grind with atypically deep gameplay and a good license.[/li]
Top 3 probably isn't good enough. It's better to look at these games in terms of which niche they serve.

City of Heroes/City of Villains, like other people have said. Great game, a little slow to start with, but still my faviourite MMO. Though you may just want to wait for there next MMO, Champions online, or if your another intresting looking comic book MMO, DC Universe Online. Though the champions guys have more experience with this type of game so they may be the way to go.
