Van Canto, should've been part of Skyrim.
Nothing screams 'NORDIC' like a capella metal.

Other than that, Datsik should do some kind of space opera game. That would be amazing.

Wait games have sounds? I always just turn the sound off and play music instead... Only certain games that have a lot of good voice acting do I actually keep the sound on and if thats the case I'm not even listening to the game music.

Manowar would make a great soundtrack.
Enough heavy stuff for epic moments with enough lighter stuff for more quiet moments.
I can already imagine a final suicide mission with
playing in the background.

Apart from the obvious favourites that have made music for games, such as: Kevin Sherwood, Elena Seigman and Akira Yamaoka; etc. But I think I'd probably like Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor), Devin Townsend or someone like Yiruma perhaps?
Your wish has been fulfilled, with NIN at least. I don't know about a whole soundtrack, but he's doing some music for Black Ops 2 according to one of the trailers.

As for my choice...hmm...I guess I'd say Kidneythieves. Now while I did originally discover them because they made music for Dissidia Duodecim, I'd like to see what they could do with other games.

Me? I want Mike Patton to play the soundtrack for a full game.
Very much this.

Also, I'd love Forgive Durden to do a game soundtrack. They already made a musical.

I think Arjen Lucassen (main person behind Ayreon) could make an amazing soundtrack for a game in a sci-fi setting.
I would play a game if Arjen composed it.

OT: I'd love to see Rammstein compose a soundtrack for an action game.

I've already been ninja'd by the people that mentioned Nine Inch Nails, Megadeth, and Tool, now I feel sad. :(

Oh wait, I got it!

Kittie, that would be the shit album! :D

I'd like to see a collaboration of Muse and Rammstein.

What, I can dream can't I?

:D
How in the world would such a strange combo sound? o_O
Honestly

I have no idea.

But what I do know is, it would be quite interesting!

I keep imagining the backing tune of Du Hast as a great fit for action sequences, where you get to be all badass and shit.

I think it's called a backing tune anyway.. you know that cool thing you hear in the background during the song...

Infected Mushroom for a Sci-Fi game. It would create a Mass Effect like atmosphere but weirder.

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE.

They can do a lot of different sounds (compare "Breaking Down" to "Heartlines" to "Seven Devils"), and I think they'd score some absolutely stunning sequences.

I'd like to see (hear?) Pure Reason Revolution do the soundtrack for a cyberpunk kind of game. Maybe the next Deus Ex game.

The faroese metal band Tyr. The game would basically have to involve norse culture but still it could work.

Shoji Meguro.

Oh wait...

OT: I don't know. Barenaked ladies would certainly be interesting.

As would Weird Al.

I always thought the late Jay Reatard would have made a great game composer. I don't know why, but this song always screamed "game music" to me.

Elvis. You didn't say the artist had to be alive. I honestly want to know what he'd do.
Elvis Rock Band. It needs to happen.

For my pick, I'd say John Williams. We get a lot of things that are clearly inspired by his work (especially in video game adaptations of films that he did the score for, but I'd love to see an RPG where Williams himself composes the score that carries the emotion through the scenes.
