I miss the old Linkin Park. Unlike almost the entire world, I didn't have much of a problem with their lyrics being depressing and such. It worked for them and made them popular. New stuff......I don't overly mind A Thousand Suns, but Minutes to Midnight was stupid.
Personally, I prefer their newer stuff to their older stuff, and even I reckon their older stuff was awesome. But for me, they've improved each album, purely because they know that their 'fans' keep moaning that they're changing and yet they don't care. Thing is, if they didn't change then people would complain that they're getting predictable and boring, but if they do (which they have), they change for the better, and yet people then still moan because it's different to their previous stuff. Not because it's worse, only because it's different.

Still, what I find funny about the whole situation is that Linkin Park know this and they laugh at it. They even lampshade it in one of their songs from A Thousand Suns. Listen to the actual lyrics in this and see if you can spot what they mean... ;)

I know right? honestly there was some great stuff on thousand suns

I'd say Linkin park, though their new songs aren't bad, and i still like them, its not the same, i still think of "One step closer" as one of the best songs in my playlist, and sadly i don't think linkin park will ever make it up there again

I would have said Rise Against, but their latest album, Endgame, is better than Appeal to Reason, in my opinion. It gives me some hope.

Also I am still sad that Innerpartysystem is on an indefinite hiatus.

As for my answer I will go with My Chemical Romance. Their latest album just wasn't that great in my opinion. I like a couple of the songs though.
Agreed, Appeal To Reason was OK, but it was by far the worst album they made.

Ash has gone from having some pretty awesome hard rock, but have started with more techno-like music which makes me sad.
#1. Someone else who's listened to Ash! Finally!
#2. If you've listened to A-Z in it's entirety then you should know thats not true. If not then click the spoiler for links to several newer songs that are not only not technoish in anyway, but also kick ass. Trust me, they're still amazing.

Pick and choose, it doesn;t matter which ones you want to listen to, though I'd start with the first one.

Muse has a lot to make up for with me after the garbage that was The Resistance. Apart from the title track, MK Ultra, and Uprising it was horrible. I really hope they can get me back in their good graces after that.

Franz Ferdinand are still a good group but their overall effort has really nose-dived, the too need to go back to the drawing board to reestablish my faith in them.

Snow Patrol are going to a bad place with their music and I think it;s somewhat obvious they won't be coming back either, which sucks, because Final Straw was one of my favourite albums and the follow-ups have had some solid work in them.
Oh, sorry about that misunderstanding. What I meant to say is that they've gone from being totally awesome to be just good. However you are right about their newer songs going back to being awesome.

OT: Nightwish. Why did Tarja have to leave. Annette Olzon is a good singer. But she's a pop singer, not an opera singer. Makes Nightwish sound like someone like Epica. Makes me sad.
Same thing as usual : money. :|

Linkin Park. Minutes to Midnight and beyond is just terrible.

Mudvayne. I still love them, but L.D. 50 and The End of All Things to Come are miles better than their last three albums combined.

Dimmu Borgir. After Vortex and Mustis left. Their new album just doesn't sound any good.

I'm not really the kind of person who judges overly harsh on songs and albums. I always think of each album as something new so that unless its intentionally trying to outdo or be the same as the previous album I can't judge too much.

That being said the only bad that comes to mind is Linkin Park.

I fell in love with them back when they released Hybrid Theory and my love was only strengthened with Meteora, but after getting Minutes to Midnight my disappointment set in. I could tolerate them if I heard them in the background, but with their new album I can see they're not returning to what me love them in the first place.

Atleast I always have he first two though.

Greenday have gone downhill steadily since Nimrod, American Idiot was good but 21st Century Breakdown was utter crap.

Metallica have not been good since The Black Album, St Anger is one of the worst albums I've ever heard and because of that I never brought The Death Magnetic even though its supposed to be a return to form.

Machinehead were good for 2 albums until they lost Logan Madder and released The Burning Red which was basically Rob Flynn jumping on the Nu Metal bandwagon. Supercharger was worse still, not checked out anymore of their stuff to see whatever bangwagon Flynn has jumped on now.

Fear Factory have not been good since Obsolete. Digimortal was alright, but since then they haven't released anything of any real quality, the original lineup needs to get back togther.

Max Cavalera hasn't released anything good since leaving Sepultura. Likewise, Sepultura have released nothing of any quality since he left.

Reel Big Fish have been on a downward spiral of crap since Turn the Radio Off! Monkeys for Nuthin' and The Chimps for Free was with the exception of 1 song, terrible.

Incubus have gotten steadily worse since Make Yourself.

I liked Eminems early stuff, The Marshall Mathers album became the soundtrack to my summer when it was released, when he was talking about taking drugs, hating shit music and cutting people up with chainsaws, I could relate to that at the time. Now he has turned into a walking talking rap stereotype which I find off putting.

Dizzy Rascals first 2 albums were great, but his new pop direction and nonsense lyrics do absolutely nothing for me.

Rise Against need to raise their game after Endgame, it was just very dull. They need to take a few years off before their next album.

I could go on but I won't.

Pretty much the entire Metalcore/Deathcore genre for me. Metalcore and deathcore were cool when they were a lot more underground and there was actual thought in their songs rather than:

"Dood, Lets like totally put a breakdown into a breakdown into another breakdown while some underage girl fawns over my straightened fringe!"

"YEAH!"

August burns red are good (though don't listen to them much at all, but from what I have listened to, They good :D) and Old Killswitch Engage(Pre 2nd Self titled album... I mean really, who makes 2 self titled albums?) were good, and I like a bit of Black Dahlia murder from time to time but the 2 genres have generally gone downhill since my generation (the 14-17 year olds) got into them for the moshes, the "Metal" scene, and to look cool and all expressive over how "Depressed" they all are, and it still drives me crazy that NO ONE CAN FUCKING DISTINGUISH BETWEEN METALCORE AND TRUE HARDCORE THESE DAYS

Well what my generation did to metalcore is partially the reason why I am a prog-metalhead primarily.

Though a bit more on topic as a final note: some of the more mainstream Nu metal bands (yes, I like Nu Metal, it just got tainted by awful rap metal for so many years that it never got to shine as it should have, as in, rhythm based metal, but it never shook that rap-metal image sadly... *Sigh*)Korn and slipknott.

Seriously, Whatthefuck guys? Whatthefuck? After Take a look in the mirror, Korn Just went shit, with no depth to them at all. Despite what anyone says I think that Twisted Transistor was a SHIT song, and it went further downhill from there. Also, Head was probably their saving grace musicaly.

Slipknot on the other hand... well I did like them (along with Korn) when I was 10 (Shit, that was 7 years ago...) and they were fun then... And this is going to sound really hipster, but they seemed to get worse when more people started liking them... As well as every album they made post Subliminal verses... (though I am mixed on SV)

But yes, thats my long arse TL; DR Metal Rant.

I was a huge fan of Shinedown after their first CD. Second was okay, then the third released, with 3 new members, and was fucking terrible. Just way too mainstream, sounded nicklebackey. Huge letdown, because their first CD just seemed so raw.
Glad I'm not the only one who felt that way.

Well discuss bands/artists that you think aren't nearly as good as they used to be :D

1. Avenged Sevenfold. used to be a great band, then when they released City of Evil I lost all faith in them.

2. Atreyu, same situation as A7X, their first 3 albums were great then Lead Sails (A Paper Anchor) was just...horrible.

3. Eminem, his older stuff was sheer brilliance, I have no idea what happened.
are you telling me you like SCREMO avenged seven fold better? you sir need to get your brain checked out, city of evil was one of their better albums.

Any way, Eminem is now shit, I think maroon 5s latest song is shit, um lets see, I don't know most of the bands I like before simply quit making songs, or they actually made good songs, the new evanescence song is actually good.

So, wait, Muse aren't as good as they used to be? I'll admit that The Resistance was different from their earlier stuff, but considering their first album was the rather bland (IMHO) Showbiz, I don't think its THAT bad.

Also glad to see no-one mention Evanescence yet. Having just listened to their new album several times, I honestly think they're as good as ever.

Red Hot Chili Peppers with the change of guitarist from John Frusciante to Josh Klinghoffer some of the creative process was bound to be different but also the backing vocals are mostly gone : /
THIS EXACTLY. You took the words right out of my mouth.

What this man said.
I thought Josh practically being a disciple of John's would've taken over backing vocals, now most of BSSM, Californication, BTW and Stadium Arcadium will sound kind of empty : S

Anyways, I'd have to say Linkin Park. Sorry, but I don't like the new sound they have. I like the old Linkin Park better, even if their lyrics were all "whiny and depressing." I just liked the way that sound better. This new stuff they're doing doesn't sound like Linkin Park at all to me.
Yup, Linkin Park started declining after Hybrid Theory. Minutes to Midnight was bad, but everything afters was so utterly shite.

While I prefer Rise Against's newer stuff, I reckon singer-man has the right voice for how he sang in Endgame.

I kind of feel like this for Mastodon. I loved basically everything before their newest album. The newest was good but sorta meh. Though I knew it's predecessor "Crack The Skye" couldn't be matched.
Mushroomhead can definitely be put on this list, their last album, I didn't even buy it, just boring.
I also throw in Alexisonfire (even though their now broke up). "Old Crows/Young Cardinals" was good but doesn't touch old albums in my opinion.

I think The Mars Volta and Cake are going downhill if their latests releases are any indication. It's a shame too, those are among my favorite bands.
