Slipknot

They may have had a few hits but most of what they do is generic drum-pounding and screaming.

This. I don't know why people like this shit.

On to actually popular music: Eminem is extremely overrated.

Muse.

There, I said it!

Note people, over rated doesn't mean they're bad, just means they're not as good as people say.

Yeah, I used really like system (and still like their first album quite a bit), but they're far from lyrical geniuses. Their lyrics are usually insanely stupid, ham fisted, or both. I re listened to toxicity lately and the lyrics just pissed me off. The first album is nice and obtuse for the most part, and the slightly deranged nature suits it.

And yes, Tom morello is a way better guitarist than Daron Malakian.
They're also fucking awesome live.

System... are really not. At all.
Never heard their first album, but I did like Toxicity even if the lyrics were stupid. It was just something to entertain me for a while. I never listened to lyrics with any seriousness and if I ever did, I found myself laughing at how ridiculous they are. Go listen to that song "Needle" and I gurantee you'll laugh at the lyrics. It's just stupid. Stupid in a good way but still stupid.

They really lost me when I heard that album with "BYOB" on it. I can't remember the name but the songs on there were just so annoying and frantic sounding that it made me literally throw the disc out of my moving car.

Don't even get me started on their live performances. Goddamn, it's like they all have down syndrome or something....
Well the first is the best in my eyes. By far. It had more of a quirky deranged feel to it, like needles only more so. Needles on acid! [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs] I liked those songs, because it was the good kind of stupid.

I listen to science and I get a massive facepalm incoming.
"Science has failed our world! Science has failed our mother earth!"
Uh, what? THAT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE. They don't do serious well.

Oh by the way, if you want to hear the worst of their lyrics, and I mean the worst of the worst, listen to this song.

I'd like to think it was a big ironic joke, but at that stage, I think they just thought it was lyrical mastery.
*shudders*

Edit: Ironic or not, there is no fucking excuse for saying "The most loneliest".
NO! Bad system!
Bad!

- Nirvana (I like them but I don't understand how Smells Like Teen Spirit ranks so high)
- U2 (Once again, I like them but I don't how they rank so high)
- And MOST of the popular bands that began in the 2000s. So often are they called 'the best' when they haven't actually done anything to earn that title.

I'm just sad that so many people like Guns N Roses. I wish they were more hated, because, to be honest, Axl Rose is a prick.
but how many lead singers have you seen catapult off stage to kick someones ass for violating a copyright infringement?
.
None that I can think of off the top of my head. I gotta admit that was pretty funny XD

I know that's what I was thinking, I thought Rage was great. god knows what they were listening too...
Who knows. It was badass whatever it was that caused them to act that way ^-^
I know and Tom Morello is a great guitarist, he was hugely influential and innovative... I think they're just going along with what's popular you know...
I didn't even think they were that popular anymore. Though, I'm not in school anymore so I can't be sure but when I was, they seemed to be dying in popularity.

It seemed by the time I left, everyone was obsessed with Slipknot metal wise.

Good thing I left when I did, otherwise I'd end up hating them too due to popularity and I fucking love Slipknot XD
they're still popular over here...
Lol yeah good thing I graduated already or else I might end up hating Slipknot too since they can't seem to stfu about them either... I know the band is good but I don't need to be constantly reminded that every single day...
Ugh. I know what you mean. I remember one kid trying to convince me that every member of Slipknot was the best of all time at what they were.

Jim Root - Best rhythm guitarist
Corey Taylor - Best vocalist
Joey Jordinson - Best drummer
and so on....

They're good, but they're not the best ever, jeez.

Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, shit. I'm going to have to calm down for a moment.

... Did you put Cake on that list?

Not only is Cake an excellent band (opinion) it never received mainstream success omitting the success of 'The Distance.' Which is nowhere near their best song. I'm going to assume that you were formulating you're opinion around that. If so, (and I do hope that it is so) I would like to ask you to listen to a few other of their songs. Here, I'll list a few, and you see if you find any you like. (They dipped in many musical genres, so I'll try and provide a bit of variety)

Frank Sinatra
Wheels
Comfort Eagle
Nugget

These are just a few, they have many great songs. I say this only as a devout Cake fan who sincerely wants you to change your opinion. Cake changed my entire conception of music (before them, I was a 'Linkin Park' fan, I know, what the hell?)

Also, just a side note, I don't know why so many people dislike Coldplay. I just don't get it, if you have an answer for you personally, I'd really like to hear your reason.

Please, please, please. I beg you, give Cake a second chance.

And Oh yeah,

Nirvana, never really liked their style.

I don't either, since that's one of the weaker tracks on the album...

God I know I hate when people try to convince you that something is perfect in every way. I remember when my dad sat me down and we had serious talk about Morrowind... it was hilarious it's like he couldn't handle the fact that I didn't like Morrowind so he tried for like a half an hour to explain in fine detail why it was the best RPG ever created...

AC/DC. Really I think they are just bad. They have little songwriting talent and can only manage to write on about 3 subjects; Hell, Lightning and Sex.

Thank you! I don't know why Smells Like Teen Spirit is supposed to be so good either. I think they deserve all the praise they get but they have much better songs than that.

Your dad tried to convince you Morrowind was the best thing ever? Ha! That's odd. The only thing my dad's ever tried to convince me of its greatness was the Everly Brothers. Odd because he likes much better music than that. He's the one who got me into bands like Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, The Pixies and The Smashing Pumpkins in the first place. XD

U2. My sister bought my family all tickets to the concert coming up. I dont like them though...

Metallica. Theyre good, but I easily get sick of them

AC/DC. All their songs sound the same. Except thunderstruck. And everytime I hear someone call them Acka Dacka i lose so much respect for them

as much as I dislike my mom, I have to say she has a much better taste in music. my dad listens to Dr.Dre and N.W.A. and other assorted gangster rappers but keep in mind I don't hate rap, I just don't think it's as good as say Nirvana or Helmet or Radiohead or Hall & Oats...

Hahahah!! Hall & Oats is awesome XD

I gotta say that I hate rap though. Especially gangsta rap like that. NWA is just....just awful :/

Mum has great taste in music too though. She's into more 80s stuff though. That's why I like bands like Duran Duran, The Cure, Squeeze or The Smiths. Though for some reason, she loves new metal bands like Slipknot, Rob Zombie and even things like Trivium. She actually went with me to see Korn and Rob Zombie a few weeks ago XD

Hmm. Easy choice for me would be Guns n' Roses. Never understood the draw. Axl's screechy voice makes me want to remove my ears with any means necessary when I hear that toneless shriek on the radio.

Slash did rock a top-hat like a champ, though. I'll give 'em that.
