Wow, the console versions have dedicated servers?
Yep, as long as there are people playin in that category(Team Deathmatch etc) you will find a game.
Do you even know what "Dedicated Server" means?

Actually, considering you just told every PC gamer to "Play it on a console", I'm guessing you've never played anything but Halo and CoD on your 360.

It's not balanced in any way from the maps to the killstreaks, to the amount of health, and to the spawns; I condsider it one of the worst games ever made not just because of the bad quality, but because of it's wasted potential. The hate is towards the multiplayer and nothing else.
Exactly! Coupled with the rage you get when playing it just leads to an awful gaming experience. I realized this when I was sitting there playing at 3 in the morning, had class the next day at 9, and was 'grinding' to get to the next level. I was there for hours trying to reach this retarded goal, when I realized I wasn't having any fun, and not only was I not having fun, the game was turning me into a more depressed and angrier version of me. I finally copped on what the problem was and nearly quit gaming completely. If a game is so broken it makes you want to stop gaming entirely, you better stop playing that game. So I did, doe about 2 months, I played it last week just to reaffirm my beliefs and I succeeded.

On the other hand I started playing Cod5 again and have been having a blast playing that. It seems the community of every other online shooter has improved now that MW2 is around and for that reason alone I like it.

I only hate it when im not winning, just like everybody else, so just admit that this is the truth and the only truth. because a bazillizmillion people bought this game and like thousands of people play this game online 24 hours a day..
Actually, that's one of my tests for a good game: if it's only fun when I'm winning, then there's something fundamentally wrong with it.

...to deserve all the hatred it gets?

Sure we can all agree, it didn't reach the extremely high standards of it's predecessor. But while not being as good as cod4, it was by no means a bad game.
The story was questionable, but you only realize that halfway through, since the way the story is told, both atmosphere and pacing are exellent.
In about five days or so, playing online, I have encountered as much as one hacker, and no litches at all (or they where too small for me to realize) - and aside from massive waves of crying, I couldn't find any game-breaking balance issues. Sure it has no dedicated servers, but that only concerns Pc-gamers, and I had problems connecting like three or four times... (and not having an admin, that can come up with any whatsoever stupid rules can be a plus). Besides, it took me some time going back, playing cod 4, to realize the massive improvements, certain parts of the multiplayer have undergone.

So why is everyone bashing on Mw2?
Because it's not as good as the previous mw?
Because it has no dedicated servers?
Because it's popular? (which would be my personal assumption, but isn't condemming something because it's popular just as stupid as doing something cause its popular?)

So please share your thoughts, where does all the alsmost haloesque hatred for Mw2 come from?
That's my reason, and just to clarify, I hated the first one for the same reason. Everyone seems bent on making the same thing, or something very similar but has a brand of newness on it to deceive people. Despite making good sales, what else has it done to help develop the world of gaming? I'm personally one of those people who like to play a game that's fresh and new, not recycled garbage. There is only one game type that really has an excuse to use the old concept and that's RTS, as they work with a particular play style and strategy which shouldn't be changed or at the very least changed slowly.

As a quick example of a game that was fresh, Pikmin, that was a fun, original game that really was genuinely enjoyable. Also, once Zero Punctuation came here and I discovered Psychonaughts, that was also a fun game with an interesting concept. Sure Psychonaughts wasn't quite as original as Pikmin, but at least it wasn't a complete clone of something that was outrageously popular.

off-balance, poor AI in campaign, plain levels in campaign, generic shooter campaign, half the guns weren't even "modern" (M16, Thumper, AK-47), etc.

I'm pretty sure BFBC2 is more deserving of the title "Modern Warfare".

I enjoy the game as well, but maybe it's because I steer clear of multiplayer...

As far as the single player experience is concerned, what is there to say that hasn't been said? It feels like they wore out most of the good ideas in the first game, and threw the leftovers onto the sequel. For every level that was fun (all of the levels in the US) there were others that just felt plain (Gulag) or outright irritating (Goddamn Favela level).

Also, the plot... it just makes no sense. The first MW set the standard for a good, believable story of modern combat. It rarely felt OTT, and most felt like the stuff you don't see in the news.

In contrast, the story of the sequel is, for the most part, a succession of OTT moments. That's not necessarily bad, but the precedent had been set in the opposite direction. It's as if you're watching BlackHawk Down and all of a sudden they pull out their laser guns. It may be awesome, but it's no longer believable.

Another common, and accurate complaint is the length. I realize games are getting shorter and shorter these days as production values increase, but for the money spent on the game, I find little reason to justify the campaign being so damn short! It's not just word of mouth, the campaign is actually over before you know it! I rarely believe "the interwebz", but I found myself finishing the game in one lazy Friday afternoon.

Like I said, I enjoyed the game. But it has its flaws. And unfortunatelly, it does deserve a lot of the criticism that it's usually aimed at it.
Exactly. I bought the game the morning it came out. By that afternoon, I had already played through. Then written, proofread, and posted a 1500-word review

I think the major reason is that it can't measure against it's incredible predecessor. No matter how good MW2 is, and it is pretty damn good, there's no way it could match what CoD4 did.

The other big reason is the balance issues. Danger Close + Noob Tube and Commando are both gamebreaking problems.

Not exactly.

See, MW was a pretty damn good game. It had it's flaws, but overall, it was very good. MW2 on the other hand, seemed to pick up everything the game did right, throw it straight out of the window in favor of more horrible decisions:

- The price was inflated.
- All pretenses of realism were dropped in favor of a james bond-esque logic.
- The story went from "interesting and conceivable" to "absurd and stale".
- Since one of the worse ideas of the original MW was killstreak rewards (Hint: if someone's on a kill streak they usually don't need an artificial advantage, specially not one that can wipe out the whole enemy team if they don't make it a priority, which in turn makes them easy targets), IW obviously thought, with clear backwards logic, that the best course of action was to add a million more of those! And make them even more aggressive and obnoxious! To the point that they honestly thought it was a good idea to include an actual "I win" button in the form of a tactical nuke...
- Most guns are pretty much 2-3 hit kills with stopping power, turning the game from "warfare" into "tag". Whomever sees the other person first wins because the other person doesn't really have a chance to do anything.
- The aforementioned killstreak rewards and "2-3 hit kill" guns degenerate games into campfests, since camping is by far the safest and most effective way of winning.
- Akimbo... Like... Seriously...
- Anti-game "invici-shields" that make guns borderline useless.
- Thrown knives that 1-hit kill... Because... I don't know, I'm honestly at a loss for words on this one. Whatever might have possessed them to think this was a good idea is beyond me.
- Dropping dedicated servers, which is equivalent to killing the online version of the game.

Now, if I have a big beef with Halo's 2 and 3 for adding next to nothing to the original, I'm forced to have a bigger beef with MW2, because not only does it not go anywhere, but it actually goes BACKWARDS. And it's not one detail or another either... If you removed the names and I didn't know the series I'd honestly say MW2 was the first "rougher and more inexperienced" game, and MW1 was actually the second, better, game, after the developers had learned from their past mistakes... At this point the game designer should probably feel ashamed of himself.

In short: MW2 is worse than going stale, it's going backwards... And that's why I have a problem with it.

Don't judge a book by it's cover mate

1. I HATE 360s and EVERYTHING TO DO with Gaylo.
2. I play games on PC, it's just I've never had problems with servers. And yes i know very little about dedicated servers.
Fine fine, I apologise for talking shit about something I don't know about (you).

Perhaps you should consider doing the same.

I don't have a console, and the first was brilliant on the PC, I should expect the same from a sequel.

I hate it because of this:
It's riding off it's predecessors success.
The Campaign is short, and quite ridiculous.
The community is the second worse I've ever come across (try Zombie Panic! Source).
The lack of Dedicated Servers on the PC.
The lack of Mod Support on the PC.
The lack of originality.
It has nothing special for it what so ever.
I lose interest in it after one game.

I could think for a while and give you bucket loads of reasons. I just don't like the game.

I enjoyed it, but the story just got to wacky when I took a step back and looked at it and multiplayer is filled with people yelling "HAX!" when you kill them, or people using some newly found glitch. it was fun for a bit, but then people found out that the dev team thought that they where the ultimate bad asses from aliens.

I didn't like the multiplayer modes in the original Modern Warfare, like Free-For-All: "You are Rambo, and so is everyone else. Go!"

Or Team Deathmatch: "You are Rambo, but half the people in the game will whine at you if you shoot them. Go!"

You respawn in random places on the map dying easily to random airstrikes, helicopters, or people that ran into you when you spawned and couldn't react to fast enough.

It eventually felt disorganized and kind of unrewarding to play once I'd leveled up to 55, so I just played Team Fortress 2 from then on.

After that I never really cared about Modern Warfare 2.

I really hate IWNet ... horrible hate it.

I loved the campaign.. I did.. it was awesome.

Multiplayer had some balance issues.. really.. the 1887 akimbo was HORRIBLE (now they nerfed it.. so I don't mind). And spawn raping... OH THE SPAWN RAPING.

But.. that is just about it..

I liked the gameplay but hated the "story" if you dare call it so.

But anyway, why do you care about such a trivial question ?

if you liked it, good for you.

I thought the story was awesome - who cares if it's ridiculous? Almost every single mission felt extremely epic, and both the spec ops and the multiplayer are a lot of fun. I loved the game, I don't really see what's so terrible about it.

Campers, sprint-stabbers, anyone who even thinks about using a heartbeat sensor, campers, 13 year olds, riot shields, campers, horrible team balance, campers, 14 year olds, people not muting their mikes when they cough, sneeze, snort, mouthbreath and yell at their mom for more cheetos, campers, parents who play party matches with their 8 year old children, campers, 15 year olds, campers, levels built specifically FOR campers, campers, campers, campers, CAMPERSCAMPERSCAMPERS EAT SOME MORE FUCKING MARSHMALLOWS YOU THICK SHITBAG.

I don;t give a shit if i sound like a grumpy old douche, but no one under the age of 18 should be playing this game. not for violent content, not because i think it will make kids murderers... but for the same reason no one wants a bunch of fucking high-pitched brats running around the damn casino. If you haven't hit puberty, SELL YOUR XBOX AND GO LEARN SOME FUCKING SOCIAL SKILLS.

Cause nerds need a place to vent their rage and MW2 just happens to be a nice target. It has its problems but it still is really fun.

I really don't see what the issue is with campers. If they're in the same place all the time, what's so hard about shooting them with one of those handy-dandy guns that you spawn with?

Marshmallows are delicious though, thank you
