Title may be a bit misleading, so let me clarify: I am not being pessimistic against Sony. I thoroughly enjoyed the news coming out of E3. Watching Xbone explode, fist pumping after reading Sony news, laughed at the instructional video on sharing PS4 game, the whole she-bang.

After I calmed down a bit though, I realized, all Sony did was not screw up. All the current consoles had everything the PS4 is promising (though publishers recently played with DRM and always online nonsense.)

Again, I'm not hating on Sony (at least, I don't think I am) and there is no way I'll be buying an Xbone. If anything, I wanna know why we piss ourselves like excited puppies at the news Sony isn't gonna screw us over. Have we really come to the point where no bad news is the same as great news?
All Sony had to do this generation was not fuck everything up, which they still managed to do in my eyes. They made it where you have to pay extra to play games you already own, which is why I originally hated Microsoft, so they lost at least one customer out of the deal.

Actually, I'd dare say they did one thing properly.

They learned from some of their mistakes of the last generation, demonstrating that they actually are listening to their customers, both existing and potential.

Microsoft has not learned that lesson, but it seems like they will the hard way. They can say they're trying to be innovative, and innovation is fine, but innovations that only serve to alienate and annoy are not going to win the hearts of the buying public.

MS shot themselves in the foot so great that all Sony needed to do was to not screw up. The video about sharing was just the kicker. It's the cherry that's more awesome than anything it was on top of.

EDIT:
The timing was just great as well. They struck a chord with the gaming masses everywhere. MS just looked like the elitist snobs who say "Deal with it".
