Except Nintendo, because nobody seems to care what Nintendoes.

So basically, Microsoft walks in and sets the bar so low that almost anything Sony did but not trip over it would get applause.
And now I'm imagining a series of pro-Nintendo image macros showing a picture of an Xbone and illustrating some evil feature of it, and then saying "Xbox, it does what Nintendon't. So you might want to buy a WiiU."

Title may be a bit misleading, so let me clarify: I am not being pessimistic against Sony. I thoroughly enjoyed the news coming out of E3. Watching Xbone explode, fist pumping after reading Sony news, laughed at the instructional video on sharing PS4 game, the whole she-bang.

After I calmed down a bit though, I realized, all Sony did was not screw up. All the current consoles had everything the PS4 is promising (though publishers recently played with DRM and always online nonsense.)

Again, I'm not hating on Sony (at least, I don't think I am) and there is no way I'll be buying an Xbone. If anything, I wanna know why we piss ourselves like excited puppies at the news Sony isn't gonna screw us over. Have we really come to the point where no bad news is the same as great news?
Not much actually. They have shown new IP, but they were not exclusive. And I believe that is what some people believe. T^T.
Multiplatform Games shown at Sony press conference:

Kingdom Hearts 3
Final Fantasy 15
Destiny
Battlefield
Watchdogs
Mad Max
Diablo 3
Elder Scrolls online Etc.

What leaves as exclusives from E3:
The Order
Indie games
Drive Club
Knack
Killzone
Edit: Infamous, can't believe I forgot this game.

There are exclusive hardware deals, but I'm just after the games. Long story short, some multiplatform games appeared on Sony Press Conference first so it looked more appealing.

It really would be funny as hell to see that go full circle for real.

You forgot Infamous: Second Son. Pretty big one for Sony. Also I imagine Gran Turismo will be Exclusive since they compete with Forza.
Corrected Infamous, but I don't count realistic racers. :p Same reason I don't count sports games that try to be realistic. :p

Sony gave me some reasons I might choose to buy their consoles, games and online services.

Microsoft gave me lots of reasons NOT to choose to buy their consoles, games and online services.

They just didn't screw up (as bad). From my point of view, i'm kind of upset that we Europeans have to pay 400? instead of 300, which is what the 400$ would actually convert to. The Euro's value is much closer to that of the UK Pound than the US Dollar, so we should have gotten at least a 350? price tag. On top of that, we don't get the Gaikai streaming from the start either. Way to go, Sony.

Because they're paying attention to the consumer's requests and opinions, instead of just going along with whatever they think they can get away with. That, and having a reasonable price on launch.

I think the big celebration is because people were worried that Sony were going to do the same bullshit as MS but hadn't announced it yet.

They basically just confirmed that there not doing it, so Yay!

By "win", do you mean ended up in last place (non-portable) overall?

http://videogamesopinions.blogspot.ca/2013/05/ps3-lifetime-sales-surpass-xbox-360.html

OP: They sided with the consumer. That alone brings hope that the game industry is not completely fucked.
So this year, in which they barely got more sales the the 360, and are about to launch the ps4, means that MS lost? No, sorry, the 360 was dominant for the longest time AND made MS money, as apposed to the ps3 losing money for sony on every unit sold (Last I checked this was still true)

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-05-09-sony-unlike-ps3-we-are-not-planning-a-major-loss-to-be-incurred-with-the-launch-of-ps4

Keep in mind sony's profit is basically quoted in that article because of cuts, not because of performance or actual profit.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/xbox-one-gaming/

Lets all keep the total companies in mind. the 360 solidified MS position in the console 'war'.

The XB1 just threw it all away. The PS4 Capitalized on it.

Essentially because when you compare the Microsoft and Sony conferences, Sony was far better and even made some really unsubtle and hilarious jabs at Microsoft. Microsoft on the other hand had people up there that looked like they'd hang themselves if given the chance and their presentation was like advertising putting a surveillance device in your house while confirming once and for all the used game thing they want to do and all the other bad stuff no one wanted.

Basically Sony knew what they were in a much better position and only made themselves stronger by not hampering their console with the stuff the Xbox one is currently saddled with.

You are absolutely correct. When you get right down to it, Sony showed an upgraded PS3, no more, no less. Which is fine, but when I take a step back and forget about the announcements relating to used games and online connectivity requirements, the stuff Sony showed wasn't really exciting. It's just... a new PlayStation. Same as the old PlayStation with most of the same games, but with better graphics.

I dunno, maybe I'm being overly pessimistic.
I disagree with you, only on the statement that you're being pessimistic. It's just a PS3, but with better hardware. That's great! I don't want a gaming console that does a million things, I want a gaming console that plays games.

Not conforming to negative developments in consumer relations, rights and convenience is a lot more than "not screwing up" in my opinion.
I'm bummed about the PSN+ thing, but I guess I'll see how things shake out a year or two post release.

100 bucks cheaper and no restriction on used games...
If that's so important for the console gamers, then Sony did all they had to do.
I have my suspicions that PS+ now being required for online play is to subsidise the cost of the PS4 at launch and also proved a steady source of income from launch onwards from early adopters. Most people will try it at least for the first year which if it weren't for XBL being required also would make it closer to the Xbone price point. However that is assuming that the tech itself is more expensive than the RRP. It's possible that the Kinect contributes to the steep cost or maybe they are selling at a loss too but I think really MS don't care they will probably make a heck of a lot of money in advertising.

I've been paying for XBL for several years and that essentially has been so that I could play online, I saw few other benefits although apparently Gold was also required to use certain apps but I'm not sure which ones. Although the PS+ change must be frustrating it seems like a much better deal than XBL to me and over the last couple of years I've been envious of Sony's exclusives so maybe I'm biased.

Perhaps the grass just seems greener but for the next gen I'm going with Sony as the advantage of lack of backwards compatibility for my arcade games or physical games is an opportunity for change. Only downside is that my gamertag is already taken on the PSN =[

We expected them to screw us for one since sony and microsoft do have a bad habit of copying features and whatnot from each other (see microsofts "Oh we'll be having free games on gold toooo." crap they pulled)and it was a relief that sony just pretty much said "Fuck you microsoft ,we're not going to pull your shit.". Also sony revealed acual good games and gameplay and only touched on its side features, so they pretty much said "Yea we have tv and whatnot but were not forcing it down your throat like xbone over there." Only slight misstep was the ps plus only multiplayer but its no big deal. Plus is cheaper and more user friendly then gold and not everyone cares about multi-player, i sure dont. After the shit month ive had it was nice to see good news for once and sony delivered.

Yep and whats scarey at least to me anyway is The PS4 with just a couple of firm ware updates will have all the stuff people are hating on the Xbone for and that means nothing will have changed and all the companies will learn from the xbone screw up is we need to keep this stuff on the down low then patch it in later.

I really have to wonder if maybe as a group we arn't as stupid as these major players treat us. I mean the advantage the consoles are supposed to offer over PC's is you stick the disc in and it plays. This next generation from Sony and Microsoft are sticking more and more stuff on top of that meaning it's now just an expensive underpowered PC you can plug into your TV.

But then everyones going to talk big about how they won't buy an XBone but soon as Microsoft get a cool looking exclusive all will be forgotten and it will sell like mad just like everything else that everyone hates on but buys anyways because buying this crap these companies shove in our faces will deffinatly show them we don't want what they offer.
