All I want to say is, I wasn't trying to suggest you lie. Just that you find a more appropriate time to come out with the truth about your distaste for this practice. Still, since the thread itself is the subject of your distaste, maybe this actually was the time to do just that.
Content aside, it looks like the real trigger for you getting slapped with the "Edgelord" label was just your tone. I mean, it wasn't hostile, or immature. Just sternly intellectual, like you were heatedly lecturing others, which felt very out of place when everyone else was being lighthearted.
Granted, it would be hard for it not to sound out of left field, since your intent was to challenge the thread's existence in the first place. Just be warned, people are going to push back. A softer and more casual tone might lessen that, depending on who is listening.
Still, it looks like I have some learning to do if I want to add any more to the discussion of Lent itself.
