Before you read this, if you have not finished the game, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER.
This isn't like the other CoDs, don't spoil it for yourself.

So anyway, those of us who have completed the game, what did you all think of it?
I loved it.
Amazing, totally not what I was expecting from a Call of Duty game.
Personally, I rank this up with Bioshock as 'Best game plot twists'.
Seriously.

I was sad when Woods got blown up, but apparently he's still alive!
Also, I was really glad of the final ending.
None of this 'Betrayal, cliffhangar, OMGWTF' Bullshit of MW2.
You, Hudson and Weaver all reconcile, join up for one last moment of badassery, and win with a glorious display of military vehicles at the end.
Glad it set it up for a sequel too.

So Escapist, your thoughts?

I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't played through on vet first ... I feel like a girl would after spending a few years in an all male prison. The number of bull shit, rage inducing moments is high.

I liked the whole thing, bit far fetched with the whole numbers thing though. Another thing that got me thinking, this guy is a black ops grunt, black ops are the ones the government deny if they get caught and there trained not to tell there captors anything.

This guy lasts aslong as a chocolate fire guard! He gets asked a question, says "fuck you!" they ask again and he breaks down and spills the last 20 odd years of lifes work!

The ending/start of zombies is funny as hell though, Castro, Nixon, Kennedy and some other guy (I think some kind of adviser) all arm them selvs and Kennedy comes out with cheesy lines.

Whoops, spoiled it for myself.

All I've heard of it so far is that it's rather poorly implemented, and ham-fisted, but a little better than MW2.

I thought it was boring. It wasn't as intense as CoD4 and MW2. Characters are not interesting. I did like Woods though. Plot is so stupid I barely played it through.
I only liked the realization near the end about Reznov. The rest of the campaign wasn't so good.

You honestly haven't, so far there has been nothing to give the entire game's story away. If you have seen fight club, it's like you haven't been told the big twist yet.

I think the story beats the hell out of MW2, you can follow it for a start and it is ALOT more believable. (no jumping on snow mobiles etc)

Just as a side note, best main menu I have ever seen!

Isn't there a bit where the player character leaps across a 15-foot gap between two buildings in front of a rooftop full of guards, crashes through a window and then carries on his way?

This except I don't quite agree with

It is still pretty far-fetched

EDIT: I may have to clarify. I thought it was pretty good (best CoD story, besides MW1), but it was still kind of insane. Saw the twist coming from a mile away, but enjoyed nonetheless

it annoyed the living hell out of me because of having so many dates so far off and also by having so many 1970s and 80s guns in a 1960s setting

It was pretty ridiculous, but it still beat the shit out the abmination that was MW2's plot.

I prefer MW2. Say what you want about IW and their games but they can make a terrific campaign. And I actually care about MW characters (Price and Soap). Still, nothing can beat the awesomeness that CoD 4 was. I really hope IW makes the next CoD and I hope it's MW3. They will probably continue to improve upon the last CoD game. I'm a glass half full kinda guy.

I actually really liked it, the twisty and mysterious storyline and character arc kept me guessing in the beggining and middle but it got easy to guess near the end.

Really though i thought it was much better than MW2's which was just terrible for the most part. This one seemed genuinley creepy and also didnt feel like just a bunch of random battles. The end was rather dissapointing though, by which i mean the ending scene where you come up from the sea, it just seemed like they had to throw in a big "AMERICA FUCK YA" moment, and while it worked it just left me sitting there wondering "really?"

About 60% ofthe time I ddint have a clue what was going on, I was too busy enjoying killing baddies and blowing shit up.

It all comes together in the end, so while it was a bit messy, I'd say the story was not too bad after all. The fact that Reznov was in it made me very happy.

He's my favourite psychopathic Russian :D

I really enjoyed it. It was a completely different CoD in my opinion. Much better in-depth story.
I thought it was great that they brought back that character from WaW as well, although it took me a while to figure out it was the same guy.
And i have to agree, once the plot twist was revealed it reminded me of Bioshocks.

I found it to be really underwhelming, i was happy it wasn't stupidly over the top but there weren't really any parts in the story that had me on the edge of my seat. The voice acting of Sam Worthington was shocking! i still enjoyed it, i dont think ill play through a second time though.

It's a game, not a movie. The story is there as an excuse to shoot stuff. Stop getting your panties in a twist.

As quite a few have already said, it was better than MW2's story.

Mw2's game felt a little light to me, and Black Ops a little bit bulky for some reason. One of my main problems was the atmosphere near the end of the game. I started to expect zombies to attack me any second. Then I was just waiting for the game to end.

My personal favourite of the COD games for story was WaW, at least for the Russian parts. I genuinely liked Reznov. I was excited at the beginning of Black Ops to be doing something with him. I put the pieces together and figured out the "twist" on my own, and was a little saddened he was never actually there again.

Partially because it meant I wouldn't get an ending with him in it.
Well, it wasn't really close to standing on top of the Reichstag.

Not quite, he jumps from one building to a lower balcony (were somebody put a fuck load of mattresses) and kills 3 guys mid slow mo jump.

Technically do-able but you would have to have massive balls and a free runner.

I did say it was still far fetched.

I never saw the twist, I knew one was coming though.

You really knew from an early point that your bestest friend died 5 years ago and it was all in your head? I call shinanigans. Maybe after you kill Stiener.

I really didn't see that twist coming near the end. I did find that guys reaction strange in the rat tunnels. So I'm talking with Reznov and all of a sudden the guy asks "me what the fuck is wrong with you?" I never talk when I play the game but when the guy said that I was like: "what the fuck? I'm talking to a friend, asshole!" It was nice how they showed the flashback of that situation in the end. That was the only semi-wow moment in the game.
