Woah, lots of hate in this thread.

OT: I'm American (and Catholic for a bonus) and I thought the linked clip was funny.

Course one clip does not a comedian make. And I am a damn sight more fond of British humour than American comedy.

I think in general a lot of people sometimes find Al Murray a bit of a put off. I see the same thing with Jim Sterling: people either take his on screen persona at face value or they get it's parody but don't like the delivery. Meanwhile everyone else sees it, gets it and likes it.

It's not a dig at anyone for not getting it, it's just how different people percieve comedy.

I'm American and I'm all for making fun of religion, but that guy is just way too annoying.

But if you are talking about non-religious related humor, I absolutely LOVE Top Gear!!!!

PLEASE don't use Al Murray to show off Briain's sense of humour and comedy, the man is totally abysmal.

If you want an insight into british humour, watch something along the lines of "that Mitchell and Webb look" or maybe some Marcus Brigstocke, not somebody as awful as Al Murray.

I don't know about that, the Escapist has had a couple in its time.

British here and I do find Al Murray funny.

Been to a couple of his shows.

Although Jack Dee remains my favourite comedian, closely followed by Frankie Boyle.

Not all of Boyle's stand up is funny but some of it has me in stitches. He was good on Mock the Week. Plus anybody that can piss off Katie Price without trying is okay in my book.

I'm not trying to be racist I'm trying to get an honest opinion has I stated before. If you feel offended get the fuck of the Internet because trust me one video isn't as bad as a website dedicated to being racist.
He asked a simple question as to why you were asking. Asking if you think we're religious nuts isn't racist, please look up the word because you clearly don't know what it means (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/racist), it would mean that you are biggotted or discriminatory.

My honest opinion, without seeing more of his comedy, and just this bit....not funny.

I'm British and I think that Al Murray is an arrogant, loud, obnoxious git.

Personally I find it hard to sometimes spot the "parody" aspect, which is supposed to involve exaggeration too the point of absurdism, Murray often just repeats the same old racist nonsense with only a smile to tell you he's trying to be funny.
Al Murray's pub landlord character used to be good when he started doing it in 1994, but when he went mainstream starting in 2007 he gained a new fanbase of people who didn't get the joke, and I expect he faced commercial pressure to play to this new audience demographic.

It's a problem faced by a lot of parody acts. Leigh Francis' act including his characters Avid Merrion and Keith Lemon used to be a very clear, clever and funny parody of the kind of vacuous, unintelligent, rubbish TV which he now peddles. Same with the Scream and Scary Movie franchises, becoming exactly that which they originally sought to parody.

Stewart Lee is a friend of Al Murray, and in this clip makes a passing reference to the kind of audience he now plays to:

Wait what? And British people HONESTLY think their humor is better? This is the same crap I see everyday on Comedy Central standups except WORSE (some are as bad as him anyway). He's a generic comedian who can be replaced within a minute of death.

I wouldn't put that forward in trying to determine our outlook on your humour as a whole.

While it got a couple chuckles, I've been watching British comedy for years, and even though my scope is probably pretty limited, there's waaaay funnier stuff than that.

I thought he was pretty funny, but the climax of the joke was a huge let down. He had a giant build up and left it off with "common sense". A well placed joke or something at the end would have tied that entire bit together.

Hell, i'm British and I hate him. He's not that funny, most of his jokes come up, get this, while i'm actually in the fucking pub.

I expect a bit more effort put into it when its an actual show.

Eh, not good. I'm American, but i like a lot of English humor. This [nVqjA4JnJnA] may be my favorite show, for reference. But this just wasn't good.
