The first one was good.

The second one was strained.

I cannot stand the third one.

Self-deprecation is part of being British. You'd have difficulty offending us by making fun of us.
True.
I've watched a lot of things that can be considered insulting to the brits, a lot of them being american WW2 films, but I laugh it off.

I did not find Austin Powers that funny, but I know some fellow Brits which did. Like pretty much anything it comes down to personal opinion but I think you will be hard pushed to find many Brits who were offended by the film.

I'm British and I hate those movies, though it's because I don't find them funny. I have never once heard a British person complain about how we are portayed in Austin Powers. We just don't really take ourselves seriously, and I doubt you are going to get any protests about it.

As a british citizen i was not offended by austin powers atall, i found the jokes against britian to be the funniest parts of the films and thought the rest of the humour was weak at best. Jonny English is an absolutely hillarous film, made me laugh so much :)

Austin powers is a piss take of spy movies (mainly Bond) not the British.
It was funny when I was 12, and it's a laugh to see every now and then. I'm not offended by it (Brit)

I'm English and did enjoy the movies the first time through, but get very stale. I doubt anyone with a good sense of humour would find it offending as for a start Austin's supposedly the sexiest man alive, did Little Britain offend you with Little Britain America? Its terrible comedy compared to the original series but they went pretty far, if they didn't offend then there's no reason for us to get worked up over Austin.
By the way calling an Irish man British or English isn't so bad; people understand that all you Mexicans aren't too aware of the happenings over here =D

Another thing, why do American's call us Brits?
Not being offense but I think its ignorance, probably the same for others calling people Americans when they'd rather be called Texans ... although that does admittedly seem like a weak argument. Probably just how popular culture sees us, and to be honest I see myself as a European Brit and English after that.

Edit: Opps forgot the reason for the topic! As with most series, they started off well and became hackneyed rather quickly in my opinion.
