I would love to go to Australia, as an American, to me it looks like an amazing place full of interesting folk and crazy, deadly creatures. To me it seems like one of the only places on earth that is impossible to tame, where anything goes and only the strong survive. If I had a chance to stay and live there for an extended period of time I would jump at the chance.

Can I answer this even though I live here? It's all fine and dandy to visit, but when you live here you quickly realise that our politicians are literally retarded (see R18+ games discourse before the recent decision) and most of our nation is a whole lot of nothingness with things that can murder you.

I think it's a pretty great country, in general. Aside from that theocracy infestation you seem to have at the moment. Hopefully we'll both get that issue sorted-out in the future.
I'm U.S.-ican btw.

Nice enough country, very conservative - considering it's the country that brought us Romper Stomper. (Which sounds like a light hearted film if you say it in an Aussie accent.)

It's got fabulous beaches but is balanced out by having the most vicious wildlife I've ever heard of. If someone shows me a picture of a funnel web spider, I shall scream like Ned Flanders.

The people are as wonderfully diverse as you get anywhere else.

Being from Melbourne, I'm always interested to know what people think of Australia.

The overwhelming impression I get is that people believe this country is full of interesting and highly dangerous stuff. That's true, to an extent. Even the trees can kill you during summer - they drop entire limbs when sufficiently stressed. The east coast cities aren't too different from their counterparts in other Anglophone countries, except that they're much quieter and there's funnel-web spiders which can bite through shoes in the northern states.

Once you figure out the golden rule (i.e. don't touch or go near anything unless you know it isn't dangerous), it's a nice place to live. Aside from the lamentable politics, of course.

EDIT: Oh yeah... we have lots of anti-venom, too. No-one has died from a funnel-web bite since anti-venoms became available 30 years ago. Just don't get bitten by a snake and you should be okay. Avoid the cone snails, box jellyfish, stonefish, crocodiles, sharks and blue-ringed octopi, and the beach should be safe.

Swede here.
I used to watch Border Security a lot, and I fear getting anywhere near your country. You'd totally just send me back home and ban me from returning for three years!
Overall; love your dialect, hate your insects.
The bugs are bigger in afganistan, just Google "camel spider" and you'll lose all fears of huntsmans(though they are both supposedly harmless).

Aw dont worry theyre not that big, theres many places i know where the spiders arent that bad, theres uhhhhhh, ummmmmmmmm, hmmmmmm actually your right, we have HUGE spiders in Australia and we will personally give you a free can of bug spray to distract them for long enough to call your family and tell them you love them.

BUT!

only if you take our Prime Minister Home with you

PLEASE TAKE HER!

WE HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS WITH THE SPIDERS!

Nice place, lots of resources so lots of jobs. Really, i have nothing bad to say. Most Australians i have met have been totally cool and easy to get on with. My dad used to live there when he was younger and he said the same. The insects and sunshine wouldn't suit my disposition but i can't hold that against it.

9/10 overall, gotta leave some room for improvement :)

Yeah, it's the snakes that'll get you.

Oh, and inevitably the drop bears.

I enjoy your enthusiasm on the subject, but I have to object to only the strong survive, trust me, being an Australian myself, that we are some of the most laid back, chilled out people you will ever meet and whilst we do admirably well you don't have to have many strong qualities to survive, just be good at swimming, explanation not need ;).

Australia is only slightly easier to live on than the moon. Way too hot for me. As for the people, you're just Europeans that got lost :p

"Strewth! Fosters! Crikey! Neighbours! Crocodile Dundee! Steve Irwin! Can ya still see the shackle marks on me ankles?"

In all seriousness, we know Australia to be just like the mother country, but with better weather, more lethal wildlife and a deficit of ethnic minorities due to genocide and geographic isolation.

Also, whilst you have enough bar staff to export them here, you have an odd shortage of hairdressers- according to the points-based immigration system, this is pretty much the best way to guarantee acceptance without attending university.
