I wouldn't class Inbetweeners as 'British Comedy', it's basically American Pie comes to England.
Really? Personally, I find it to be pretty much perfect in representing British secondary schooling in comedic form.

The only shows I watch now are Top Gear, QI, Have I got news for you and Never mind the buzzcocks. With the occasional documentary.

And Buzzcocks is starting to get tiresome, especially since I don't know who half the guests are.

It'll never get better than this.

Thanks goodness, I was beginning to wonder if people had forgotten Harry and Paul. Agreed with previous posts on Blackadder, but there are a few good modern shows; Come Fly With Me was certainly a lot less crude than little Britain. I did like LB to start, but by the end of the second series I was bored of it- the sketches were hit-or-miss.

What I find with British comedy is that sometimes its a lucky dip: A panel show (We do seem to have taken a liking to that particular format.) might be mostly entertaining through a series, but there will always be one episode where the guests were boring, and/or completely out of their depth. I watched Bruce Forsyths' do of HIGNFY recently; He was excellent and truly left a unique stamp on the show, but Laura Solon (Who?) Was quiet as the grave and didn't contribute much.

I think Peep Show, The IT Crowd and Spaced are great.
Not sure if Spaced counts any more though....
Oh and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and Snuff Box....

I love Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and a lot of the other older British comedy stuff.

Peep Show is one of my favorite shows. And one of the funniest to date. So there are some pearls, but many other, perhaps the most, modern series, like Little Britain, are just not-that-good.

If by Modern you mean stuff like 'Paul' that came out recently, then yeah, I thought it was really good. Shaun of the Dead team hasn't failed me yet.
No, 'Paul' was Americanised and lost pretty much all of the Britishness about it (except for Pegg and Frost, obviously) probably because Edgar Wright wasn't attached. Not to say it was a bad film though.

We're talking about British TV comedies like 'that Mitchell and Webb look'.

Arrogant bullshit like this:

Is the reason British comedy is going stale.
Well... the BBC can just smeg right off then.

...the IT Crowd is pretty awesome, though.
Their bringing back though on...Dave.

yeah...

Also, the recent short series that they did, Red Dwarf back to earth was terrible.

I just hope this new series that will be filmed later this year isn't.

Not to sound pretentious or anything, but there really hasn't been much point in making sitcoms since Blackadder and Fawlty Towers more or less perfected the format. Peep Show is probably the best of the current crop of British sitcoms, but I wouldn't say I'm a great fan.

There are a couple of sketch shows as well that deserve a mention - That Mitchell and Webb Look (the same guys who made Peep Show) had a few moments of real genius among a lot of misfires.

Then, there's the more "high-brow" entrants like QI, but in my opinion, that's really run its course and become a little repetitive.

We do comedy better than anybody.
Only Fools and Horses and Faulty Towers will forever remain the peak of greatness.

I don't really know. My only experience with British comedy is Monty Python, half an episode of The Office and a few old episodes of Look Around You and Have You Been Served. I liked those shows so maybe I'll check the more modern stuff in the future.
LOL. After I made that post I went to the BBC America website and watched a few clips of the Inbetweeners. And it's really funny! I'd probably watch it regularly if they posted full episodes on their website. My only problem with it was that it was a bit of a sausage fest. I realize a lot of the humor in the series comes from learning how to deal with the opposite sex. But I just felt that the show could benefit from some sort of token female presence; like an Elayne or a Dee from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

I just checked out One foot in the Grave. It's decent, from the first glance, but sort of lacks what made Blackadder so funny: That everyone in the world is a complete moron except Blackadder himself.
Which is weird, because Black Adder 1 was the reverse.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Eff Eff Eff Eff Chris Waddle.

Born Free....'til somebody caught me.

Minister, Britain has had the same foreign policy objective for at least the last five hundred years: to create a disunited Europe. In that cause we have fought with the Dutch against the Spanish, with the Germans against the French, with the French and Italians against the Germans, and with the French against the Germans and Italians. Divide and rule, you see. Why should we change now, when it's worked so well?

I shall only say this wance.

Well, the answer to the question should be "I should like to see some first.".

It is indeed. Wanna make it weirder? Check out the Pilot for Blackadder, Season 1. Then everyone else is once again the moron, and Blackadder the only sharp-wit.
