When it comes to movies, right away you think of some of the best movies you've ever seen that became cult classics or sleeper hits.

Mad Max, Terminator, Pulp Fiction, Clerks...just to name a few.....hell even Citizen Kane is considered both a cult classic and sleeper and most aging film buffs will call it "best ever" on every special they make on cable channels.

But what would you say was a video game that turned out so, wasn't excepting to do much but ended up redeeming itself to the industry through word of mouth.

If you look at the history of Half Life, nothing much was expected at first except another Doom clone...so there that's one.

Are Terminator and Pulp Fiction cult movies? I thought cult films were more like Buckaroo Banzai with films like Rocky Horror show almost being to big and well known to be cult movies.

I think that P.N.03 and Gitaroo Man are cult games.

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

Half life and Psychonauts are not. If you insist they are, I'm going to have to ask you to step out of the room.

Never heard of "sleeper."

I pretty much play nothing BUT cult classics. I do buy new games, but it takes me years to get around to actually taking them out of their boxes & playing them. Most of the stuff I'm playing right now came out between 2000-2003.

Well today you might not think of them as cult classics or sleeper hits, but when the came out that's pretty much how they turned out to be.

I remember when Pulp Fiction came out no one had any idea of what to make of it.....some thought it would straight out bomb for being so different.

For instance Batman:AA turned out to be a sleeper hit.

You're going to be hearing Psychonauts a lot in this thread.

As far as my own personal opinion goes: Shadow Hearts went way under the radar, and when I picked it up and payed it I was in love.

The guy that mentioned it before me in this thread is full of epic win.

The first Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen. It had a small smattering of fans and then it became a rare title which everyone suddenly needed to have.

At one point IIRC there was a copy of the PC version for sale on ebay for over £100.

The PSone version still sells for around 60.

(Mainly in the UK as we haven't had the luck that the US has had with the PS store)

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System

Great game, left on a cliffhanger, but I'm the only person who bought this game I guess, so they aren't making a sequel.

Well for cult games we should look to the Fire Emblem and Mother series.
Thats because a cult film is one that is out but unknown until shown on midnight time slots like Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Earthbound and Fire Emblem were pretty unknown before SSB(m/b)

But for sleepers we could look at Psychonauts that went without much sales until reviewers came out saying: HOW THE F*** COULD YOU GUYS MISS THIS
