I'm in engineering. Boilermaker/welder to be exact...

I've been told this is and odd choice being that I have 2 degrees... meh, it works for me.

I work at my dad's friend's Beer Distributor. All I basically do is sit around and screw around on my computer because its such a small place that only people close by go to it but the people who do come there are there all the time.

While screwing around on my computer may sound fun there are many annoyances there.
A. I am "That" employee and every bad thing that can happen from evil customers to pigeons from I deal with because they all 100% of the time happen on my shift.
B. We have no heat or air conditioning so in the summer it's fucking hot as hell all the time and in winter I wear two coats because it's fucking cold.
C. customers have a habit of coming in 2 minutes after the last guy left so I go back to my computer only to be forced to go back right after I sat down.

Even with these annoyances its the best job I could get and I much prefer it to any of the other jobs I could have got.

To get a job around where I live you need experience, and to get experience you need a job.
It's a vicious circle that I unfortunately didn't jump into when I was younger, so I can't get a job now because everyone else has 2-3 more years of experience behind them.
Tell me about it... education doesn't work for me then I find myself in this position, don'tget me wrong - I can learn most anything but the whole education system is just woeful and underorganized in my area

Huh?

I completed two degrees at the same time at Uni. One of them was IT (Computer Science) my careers advisor thought I should go into web site design as I'm very artistic. So I'm doing a training course.

What's random? If you mean the History BA part it's a personal interest of mine. It also gives me literary and research skills.

I'm a liability claims examiner. People fall down and blame the owner of the property. it's my job to tell them they should've watched where they were going.

Biology student, work in the college as a librarian. It's nice, I get to set my own hours, but reading the spines of books gets really boring really fast.

I don't have a job. I would like to say that I am independently wealthy, but that would be stretching the truth a bit. I am however not in need at the moment, and spending some time... well developing my skills would be a good way to put it. I figure another few years and it's time to get back to working.

I'm just a trainee soccer referee. I don't get paid much, but I guess I'm only in high school, so all is good. :)
You must have the thickest skin around to be going for that type of job jesus. Don't go near the premier league lest you want people burning effigy's of you haha
Oh god no, I'm not even close to that level yet. I'm just doing under nines games at the moment, so I haven't faced any ugly parents yet, and I hope I won't for a while.

so youre in the industry huh?

find it hard to get in? or I supose you had contacts
I was referred to HR internally through a recommendation when I applied, in general that at least guarantees that someone would look at your portfolio, lol. I'd say the work you have to show is the most important factor, but networking is extremely helpful, especially when you don't have much experience or shipped titles on your resume. I was an art intern at id before I got hired here, and getting that job was a combination of persistence and luck. I remember sending out dozens of applications a day before I got my first job and it was very scary, and I noticed that most of the few callbacks/interviews came when someone at the company put in a good word for me. So yeah, I'd say networking is pretty valuable.

Are you looking into game development as a career?

oh no,

I was just curious, just what Ive heard about the industry and such, that its hard to get into (like other industries related to entertainment) not meaning to imply your not talented or anything

but from what I can see, like anything I guess it requires not only talent, but experience, persistance and Networking

anyway congrats on having a job you probably really like
