I haven't had a good week. I've been very depressed and yesterday and today there were a couple family deaths that just put the icing on the cake. I'm not particularly thrilled with life right now. I'm not trying to attract pity or anything I just wanted to provide a bit of perspective/backstory, as I usually do when I make threadshing always leads me to make a thread.

Anyways, I've been playing lots of video games, hanging out with friends, watching lots of movies and rugby, re watching old Simpsons episodes and staying up until I pass out from exhaustion. I also had a couple nice long pulls of my favourite tequila today when things got a little too much and I was on the verge of an emotional breakdown. But I digress.

As stated in the title, partly for ideas and partly for kicks, what do you do when you're depressed?
Play games, hang out with a good friend one-on-one or go for a long drive at night. Never fails for me.

Whenever I'm having a bad day, I go into the comic collection and dig out some old school Spider-Man issues, because no matter how bad of a time I'm having, Peter Parker is having it worse, what, with girlfriends getting thrown off bridges, clones showing up every now and then, deals with the devil and so on and so forth. Him overcoming the problem of the month just makes me feel good and ready to tackle my own problems.

Coincidentally, I'm watching NHK right now and that is a God damn depressing series.

I go for walks in the rain. There's something that makes you feel very disconnected from the world...

EDIT: You could probably tell I'm a fan from my avatar...
No, I had no idea that it was from the series.

Really bad idea. I watched that series while I was feeling down (due to various reasons that I won't bore you with) and it pushed me over that edge and drove me to attempt suicide.(Don't worry, a shrink and some pills helped.) [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IGotBetter]

So yeah, my advice would be to go to a therapist. It really helped me.
I was actually going for a double meaning of watching the anime and welcoming you, and everyone, to the Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai, it's a pleasure to meet you. :)
Just... Don't read the manga, the part about 2/3 way in turned me somewhat aggressive.

The obvious for most things - havent felt depressed in quite some time though :>

-Music, helps a lot due to mirroring my own emotional state, for some reason most people find that comforting and so do i.
-Smile. No really. SMILE - I force myself to it and strangely enought it works. Smiling makes you feel happy, its not the other way around as in you smile when you are happy, but you actually FEEL HAPPY when you smile.
-Pretty much get some Me time and realize how awesome i really am - doesnt have to be true, just sorta brag to yourself about random shit, combine this with a smile and you will feel great in no time :>>

I was bullied in school since the 3rd grade through the 9th grade.
Any depression I go through now is inconsequential in comparison to what I went through growing up.
I get over them in days, if not hours.

I go and watch/read something funny, usually on the internet. This includes re-watching/reading something I have already seen/finished.

Hmm, well the first thing I did was play GTA 4. But because you have to hold down A to run that was pretty depressing.

I found that playing the guitar helps a lot.

I also tried drinking, because of all the hype of reducing the stress. Didn't help, either.

So I think some form of art or self-expression can ease the pain.

I try to keep busy like going to the gym/yoga or taking on some project around the house or work. Something that has me feeling productive, and hopefully accomplished in a relatively short window of time.
I actually find video games to be a terrible thing for me to do when feeling blue (might not be the case for everyone). They're fun and all, but a lack of fun isn't what usually gets me down (more so a lack of purpose).
Concerts also put me in a ridiculously good mood for a long period of time, but they are so few and far between.

I try to get some "me" time. Maybe listen to some fun music or go on the Escapist
