England. I'm proud of it's history.
I hope we're talking WW2 and such, not colonialism and slavery.
I think you have misunderstood my statement, yet I wrote it without any specifics so I can understand that.

Firstly, I don't approve of slavery in any way. However, I would like to point out that without such an inhumane thing that England and many other countries wouldn't be as well off as they are now.

I am proud of all of it. I can't simply be proud of the 'good' things and not the 'bad' things. History is written by the victor, after all. As a result the history I know of may not be correct.

I may not agree with some of it, but it is a part of my heritage, so I will bear it fully.
So you're more proud that we have a history, as opposed to the exact contents of that history?

*glances at America, chuckles*

I can understand that then.

Well, lets see...
I live in Germany, so:

The health-care system
The bread and the beer.

Most favorite?
Definetly the bread.

Ok, not very patriotic maybe. But believe me, the bread really is the very best!

hmm lets see...

the fact that people have the opinion that our country is some form of giant death trap filled with stabby, poisonous, killy things

our sense of humour (mostly just taking the piss out of ourselves)

and the huge diversity in our environments ranging from rainforests to deserts

Australia obviously :p

The Industrial Revolution as well, that was a pretty major achievement and England unequivocally lead the way.

Besides empire building is nothing to be ashamed of and its not like we were the only ones doing it. Asia, Africa and South America were basically divided up among the various european nations, we just happened to be the best at it and nowhere near the most brutal (weirdly, Belgium were among the most cruel).

Also, the fact that such a tiny, insignificant nation held so much power is something to be somewhat proud of.

The only thing I feel genuinely ashamed of is what we did to the aboriginals in Australia, and the slave trade but, again, we were by no means the only ones doing it (even the africans were active in trading slaves with us) and we were among the first (if not the first) to ban it entirely.

Similarly, the long history of democracy, fairness and civil liberties in the country. It may not have been perfect, but it was one hell of a lot better than any other than any other despotic medieval nation.

I think we may the oldest democracy on earth (a parliamentary democracy, but a democrcay nonetheless) and the Magna Carta was a pretty big milestone. We were, as citizens of a country, guaranteed that we would not be imprisoned without due legal process in 1215! That's exceptional whichever way you look at it and something that some countries don't have even today.

So yeah, we've got a fair amount to be proud of really.

America... hmm... uhh... erm... we have a few good punk bands? Oh, and our country seems to be one of the most "I don't give a shit" when it comes to games being censored or banned. Yah AO version of Manhunt 2.

Ermm, you do realise Nicola Tesla wasn't American right?

I'm from France and we have an awesome Capital City, beautiful language and we are an incredibly social-able bunch (its perfectly normal for us to talk to strangers on public transport). Also our women are just stunning and can pull off almost any fashion style with class.

I currently live in England and its lovely its in own quirky ways, the public never moan about anything ever, London has some excellent stone masonry work on its buildings (just go to Regents Street and look up, alternatively go check out the Natural History Museum), and Brits are naturally talented Engineers some very simple yet effective engineering feats have been done by Brits.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (more commonly known as 'England' to most Americans). Various things I love and hate about my country:

Love:

HUGE variety of beers, especially ales, porters, stouts.
The full English breakfast
British comedy (esp. Blackadder, Mock The Week, The Inbetweeners)
Foreign girls dig the British accent
Probably most multicultural country in Europe, one of the most tolerant (after maybe Holland)
The English language - lucky as hell to be a native speaker of the most widely spoken language on Earth
British police are usually quite friendly and helpful, and there seems to be little corruption

Hate:

Football Fanaticism
British drinking culture
The fact that a lot of Europeans hate British (and especially English) people (see drinking culture/football fanatacism)
Girls here aren't particularly attractive and a lot have self-esteem issues
Crap food
Crap weather
