England. I'm proud of it's history.
I hope we're talking WW2 and such, not colonialism and slavery.
The Industrial Revolution as well, that was a pretty major achievement and England unequivocally lead the way.
Besides empire building is nothing to be ashamed of and its not like we were the only ones doing it. Asia, Africa and South America were basically divided up among the various european nations, we just happened to be the best at it and nowhere near the most brutal (weirdly, Belgium were among the most cruel).
Also, the fact that such a tiny, insignificant nation held so much power is something to be somewhat proud of.
The only thing I feel genuinely ashamed of is what we did to the aboriginals in Australia, and the slave trade but, again, we were by no means the only ones doing it (even the africans were active in trading slaves with us) and we were among the first (if not the first) to ban it entirely.
Similarly, the long history of democracy, fairness and civil liberties in the country. It may not have been perfect, but it was one hell of a lot better than any other than any other despotic medieval nation.
I think we may the oldest democracy on earth (a parliamentary democracy, but a democrcay nonetheless) and the Magna Carta was a pretty big milestone. We were, as citizens of a country, guaranteed that we would not be imprisoned without due legal process in 1215! That's exceptional whichever way you look at it and something that some countries don't have even today.
So yeah, we've got a fair amount to be proud of really.
