So if many of you have been paying attention to the Catholic Church recently you most likely would have heard about the scandals involving child molestation and how the pope has harbored clerics who have done such disgusting acts. Personally, I dislike this Pope because he's far too dogmatic for my liking. So I'm just curious, what's your take on this?

P.S. I want to make it very clear that I have nothing against the Catholic Church or its religion.
A corrupt Pope? How shocking...

This pope is a creepy looking bastard, and i can't help but feel that all of the comparisons with Sith Master Palpatine are more than just physical resemblances. Not sayin' he's got Sith powers or anything, just that the guy looks like a twisted evil bastard, and I have seen nothing to believe otherwise.

Who knows? If he keeps living in the past, the Church is going to lose relevance and (amusingly to me) cease to exist, at least as it does now.

Y'know the Pope accepts evolution as truth?

That's my Random Pope Fact for the day.

I just hate the Vatican in general. Give people the ten commandments and let them find god for themselves, the Vatican was corrupt throughout history and it still is. As for the current pope a lot of people just hate him because he used to belong to the Nazi party which was 60 years ago, yeah the Nazis were bad but it was 60 years ago, move on.

I think that the Pope will never fully understand or resolve this scandal, simply because he's not a parent. If he had been allowed to be a parent, then not even his religion could stand in his way from dealing out the fire and brimstone on all these abusive priests.

The whole thing is messed up.

But it still comes down to how much gravity you take the words of this man. Personally, I don't think any one person should be a leader or figure of an entire sect of a religion. It's too much power and too much influence in things that are supposed to be entirely from spirituality and from within. Or God.

I think he's quite repugnant and has done nothing but continue to give an organization that already has a bad name an even worse one. *shrug* I would say I hope that these latest revelations change the way the Vatican works, but we all know that's not going to happen anyway.

This new Pope has absolutely nothing on Pope John Paul II. That man was an honourary Globetrotter, and thus he is the alpha and the omega in my opinion. As for Catholic Church molestation, it's a vicious cycle, it happens, we forget, it happens..

I think people over saturated the power of a seventy year old man living in a land far far away.

The only relevant thing the popes have done in recent times are die and get elected.
BOOM! Took the words out of my mouth.

Also, it's interesting to see how any Escapists think the Pope's "insane".

My view on the Pope utterly and totally agrees with the point presented in this video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BpmeX6lwZc]. From my point of view it's far worse to engage in activites that cause the spread of deadly diseases on a continental scale than it is to conspire to protect accused child molestors in your employ. Both are utterly and totally vile though.

I want JP2 to come back, he was a cool pope.
May he rest in peace.

I really liked and respected John Paul II. Not only was he trying to spread tolerance and friendship, he actually made friends with musicians and other celebrities (he owned a pair of sunglasses given to him by Bono for pete's sake), and the Church was much more tolerant under his rule.

Benedict really upsets me as a Catholic woman. Although what do I care, I was divorced and am currently seeing a non-Catholic with the intention of having extramarital sex. I'm about 2 steps away from excommunication now.
I'm not religious at all, but I still respected JP2. Mainly because he was a man of the world. He seemed to "get" how things worked in reality and realized that if you just lock yourself up in your ivory tower then your views are going to skew.
See you think the pope should be the same way as I do. As a Roman Catholic I may have a greater appreciation for the pope. However, like any country or massive group, in this case the latter, it is necessary to have some form of leadership or guidance. This individual should have the necessary qualities of a good leader while being a good representation of the organization as a whole. JP2 was just that. He was one hell of a good guy who didn't go around telling people like you, or those who follow Judism or Islam or whatever how to live their life. He guided the people he was supposed to while providing better relations with all of those outside of the Catholic faith. It is not the pope's job to tell the rest of the world how bad he thinks they are. I think the Pope is a necessary concept. The pope was not set up to be the "Voice of God". The Pope is the foundation of the Catholic Church, but not some man who talks to God and he tells us what to do. He is our leader and guide, but not infallible and not all knowing. As we see with Benedict. That being said I miss JP2.

I won't say because I don't want to get banned but......

I think he's insane.

I won't go any farther than that.
He's a clone of Emperor Palpatine, what did you expect?

By god, you're right!!!

Hopefully he won't go too insane and try to kill all the jedi.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the resemblance.

DISCLAIMER: I have noting against the Catholic faith or the people who choose to follow it. I don't agree with it, but I respect people's right to believe whatever the hell they want.

Ok now having got that out of the way, I think the current Pope is a royal douche, and there's no reason I can think of for protecting those child molesting priests.
Also, I know I've been ninja'd, but
