Although i am no longer a Catholic, I am extremely dissatisfied with Benedict. John Paul II was a bro, but this guy, damn.

I think he's wrong cause I'm atheist. Just my beliefs. Him and every other religious person can continue their religious ways without protest from me. Unless a person's religion involves killing themselves and as many other people along the way.

This particular Pope is a horrible human being that has abused every office he has had. He has covered up for child molesters, and he was in the Hilter youth (don't give me that "but he had to" crap either, his actions later in life proved that he would have willingly joined anyway.)

I think people over saturated the power of a seventy year old man living in a land far far away.

The only relevant thing the popes have done in recent times are die and get elected.
Actually, this one has attempted to influence the last two Presidential elections (the only two times a pope has done this openly.)

The Pope's never even really been relevant to the religion, to be honest. The only reason he ever had power in the first place is because the people of that time period either didn't have the mental capacity to think about the stuff the church was telling them or were denied the education required to do so.

Anything he does will not affect meso I simply do not care. You guy's need to tone down the I-think-he's-a-bastard-over-something-that-does-not-effect-me-so-I'll-get-butthurt, it's causing the potential for awesome in this thread to sharply decline.

As a fellow who's not a member of the Catholic church, I make very little of him. Hey, look, they have a leader who lives in Rome and he does all this head-of-church public stuff. Neat.

The entity of religion in and of itself has a bigger place in my world view. It can be a good thing if conducted well, as it provides many people an avenue to juxtapose a higher meaning to their lives than they tend to do on their own. However, when reason is expended during its proceedings - e.g. lets tell Africans who may be dying of aids and starvation that condoms are bad - then clearly quite a bit of harm is being done.

DAMN, that is a freaky resemblance. Honestly, I've never paid much attention to the Pope, but the fact that he helped to protect people who molested children makes him..... well, not to popular in my books.

Anyone that claims to talk directly to a divine being is a delusional nut-job. The Pope just happens to be a venerated delusional nut-job in a position of power. He does have an AWESOME hat though, that's got to count for something.

Well, my dad says the reason the pope and higher ranking Vatican officials are keeping quiet about this is that, they've all commited these acts. Denouncing the priests and going public about all this and then having allegations that you did it looks terrible. So thats why they're just hoping it will pass over.

Mind you, thats his opinion.

But it makes you wonder...

I think it's going to be funny when Richard Dawkins tries to arrest the silly bugger. I've got this mental image of Rich sitting outside the Pope's hotel, hiding in the bushes and when the Pope walks out, Rich captures him in a bag and runs off to his secret lair.

I cannot stand this man. He represents a view and policy of keeping the Catholic church in the past, and his conservative views do not adequately represent the people catholic church.
Furthermore he is a disgrace to great men of the faith such as Desmond Tutu and Óscar Romero

The pope has about as much pull with god as the psychic friends network has with contacting your dead grandmother.

If you look at the church history, you see that the first five hundred years or so consists of them blending in the christain faith with paganism to get the hybrid that the catholic church is today. The next 1000 years consisted of them forcing their beliefs on the rest of europe that didn't like their pagan beliefs dilluted by christianity.

The pope, like most kings, emperors, czars, sheiks and whatever leadership you can think up of, believes that his authority is granted directly from god. Unless god himself comes down from heaven and puts that stupid little hat on his head, evidence is far to the contrary. Maybe I'd be a little more inclined to believe in the crap they preach if it were actually in their bible, the book they claim they preach. Instead you will find that Much of the catholic church is smoke and mirrors, passed down through tradition and lore.

If anything, you should only believe what you have concrete evidence backing your belief through facts and actual history.

If you are gonna believe a work of fiction, then actually read the book and figure out if you are actually living the book to the letter or are you just doing what they tell you the book says, and making up the rest as they go. At least the scientologists get that part right.

Protects paedophiles, thinks condoms cause AIDS and is secretly building a Death Star.

Yeah, he's one hell of a Pope.

The Pope is the leader of my faith and God's right hand man on Earth. I believe that this pope is not in any way insane or an evil man. I know that not all popes are infalliable (there was one that committed incest and beastiality after all) but I do believe that the modern day popes are far more pious than the ones from medieval times.

I'm not catholic so i don't two crosses about the Pope..but i think it's funny that he was a Hitler youth at one point. (Yes it's true Joesph Ratzinger aka Pope Benedict the XVI used to be a nazi supporter there's a swastika logo under that pope hat)
He was forced into the Hitler Youth, it was cumpulsary at the time. Look it up! He didn't support the Nazis! He tried his best not to attend the meetings! He wanted to be a priest, not a Nazi minister! I don't get worked up here easily, but don't call the leader of my faith a Nazi supporter when you don't know the facts! Besides, the Nazis were trying to down play the power of the Catholic Church during the war. The young Ratzinger had no interest in Nazism. Just because he was forced into the Hitler Youth doesn't make him a Nazi.

You don't believe he's an evil man, yet he covered up CHILD MOLESTATION. I'm Jewish, so we don't have a central figure such as the Pope, but if my Rabbi covered up such acts, I would never support him. It's a disgusting act that even your New Testament condemns.
