The sense of wonder and adventure. The possibilities. Being carefree. Having your whole life to look forward to.

Not being addicted to gaming sites. Life was so much better when I thought I wasn't missing out on anything by only having an N64 in 2004.

Back in the days when I had a diaper on I could get away with everything, under the words "He's still a kid, he doesn't know yet".

Other then that, I really miss the times cartoons were funny. No 3D animation, everything drawn by hand. You know, when they were still original and full of small inside jokes?

But you know what I miss the most? That I was dumb. Not knowing what horrors the world had for me when I would grow older. Not knowing that internet would boom so much(as a matter of fact, not even knowing what it was) and being over-happy about a little sweet instead of wanting to see huge explosion from a flatscreen the width of a table.

I simply miss the times that I knew just enough not to shit my pants and to say 'Thank you' when getting a present. I miss the times that I wasn't scarred by life, not having done anything bad that I regretted.

I just miss my younger self.

I miss my overactive imagination. I would spend weeks, sometimes months on a specfic scenario based on absolutely anything, repeating the same scenes and constantly adding and adjusting everything until it was absolutely perfect (which it never was). Now I rely on other people to provide me with stories and characters and occurences. Granted, the quality is magnitudes better, but I still miss it.

My love of dinosaurs, which hasn't entirely gone away.
Wow this!

But more like the ability to pursue childish interests without people calling it weird or immature.

"I will watch "The Land before Time" 3 times a week if I want to!!!"

I absolutely LOVED being a kid. Heck I'm 24 and still a kid at heart. But I have fond memories of the crazy stuff I did back in the day. Where to start? Maybe with...

1. Getting up ass-early to watch cartoons. I remember getting up when it was still dark out to watch shows like Conan: The Adventurer, GI Joe, Battletech, Animaniacs, Mighty Max and of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

2. Going to the library and getting a crapton of books. Every week I looked forward to library day to grab as many Magic School bus, Choose Your Own Adventure and books about dinosaurs as possible. We'd also rent movies from the library and when we got home we'd watch them while having "picnics" on our living room floor.

3. Having everywhere I needed to be a mere bike ride away. My friends' houses, the candy store, etc, it was all I needed and it was all in easy reach.

4. Going to the pool. I always loved swimming and went their almost every day in the summer.

5. Action figures. Inside we made huge alien cities for them out of blocks which they would battle over and destroy. Outside we would dig holes and caves for them to hide out in in the backyard, the grassy part of which could double as a jungle.

6. NES, SNES and Sega/Sega Genesis. I didn't own any myself but my friends all did and we'd often have sleep overs while staying up all night playing them.

7. LEGOS! We were lego crazy and I was always trying to build huge spaceships that would battle each other or gigantic castles.

8. Having an unbound imagination. I still try to but as we grow up often our imaginations become suppressed when we're exposed to the harsh realities of the world. Which leads us into the best part of being a kid...

9. NO TAXES! And just being totally carefree.

No responsibilities!

And playing with my action men all day long. I once stayed out a whole night in the garden, just letting imagination roam free.

Sigh, how I wish that time would come around again. Life's just been going down since then.

And todays kids are just so fucking annoying. I was happy with my lot when I was their age, but all they ever do is complain. ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN!!

Well I has happy with my lot when I was your age!

I suppose the main thing I miss that stands out was climbing trees pretty often, I used love that. That and N64 games. N64 games were fucking awesome.

I miss not knowing that there were differences in the expectations and responsibilities of the sexes. I was much happier when I believed both genders were truly equal.

I miss the way I'd get one book from the library and finish it in a day and a half maximum.

I miss my idealism and hopes and dreams. Now I'm a bitter, cynical young adult. I don't like that.

Don't get me wrong, I still have hopes and dreams, but they're far more mundane and realistic, and it's boring compared to how it was.

(Oh, and I'm not going for the whole "edgy misanthropic cynical teen" angle. I'm just a terrible person in my job, and I understand how the world works now.)

I know what you mean. Nobody enjoyed the day they realized that having their own unicorn castle in the sky isn't actually possible.

The good TV shows, my endless attention span, the days where I could infinitely play a video game instead of only once or twice, my innocence. Pretty much everything :p

Edit: And Rare being, you know...good.
