Recenly, I was talking to my friends in the pub and we started reminiscing about things you just don't see anymore in the gaming world.

For me, I miss the days before the internet when you were stuck in a game. You would either have to figure it out yourself of buy yourself a hints, tips and cheats gaming magazine.

I also miss the format exclusive boxes. The Dreamcast special CD cases, cardboard N64 boxes and my favourite the giant PC game boxes.

But I mainly miss the Repton series.

Wow, I didn't think that anybody ever used that help line! But then again, I guess it was better than just not playing an expensive game again. I miss the comradory. I dont know if I spelled that right, but people who played video games used to be much nicer to each other. Xbox Live has become a cess pool. I miss the manners more than anything.

People that are good at fighting games. I mean really good. Like go to competitions and shit. Playing at the top of the game with others just as good is awesome. But there just isn't good competition anymore. And facing people new to the game is akin to curb-stomping a 4 year old girl.

I miss the days when people focused on awesome gameplay and story instead of the number of pixels on screen. Also, when the net wasn't so developed, I loved how there wasn't much of a console flamewars... at least for me, who was what, 10, and had no other gamer friends.

Ah, the good ol' days.

Games that have good story lines and are fun to play. The developers just can't seem to get it right anymore.

Man...I miss ridiculously unrealistic sports sims. I remember my game plan in FIFA '99 was to run up the sideline, cross the ball in and volley. Without fail, the player would execute the perfect overhead kick.

It was awesome, especially if you played against people who didn't know how to do that.

"Waaaah! That's unfair! How do you do that!? Waaaah!"

I miss mostly not being able to spend same amount of time playing video games as I could do when I was younger. That means that I don´t finish a game more than once or twice and I don't explore levels so carefully as I used to.

O boy, the nostalgia bricks are hitting these people hard.

I miss the simple games, games that were original and fun. There are still plenty of those games but back when I played the PS2 there were so many original games to play with it. It didn't rely to heavily on graphics (though there's nothing wrong with looking pretty) and games like Shadow of the collosus were just beautiful gems.

Oh well, let's move on and go forward!

Not that it's in any way gaming's fault, but I miss the experiance of buying games back when I was twelve. They seemed so expensive and hard to obtain that I would have to save for what seemed like years, carefully planning my purchases and filling with more and more exitement until I was bouncing round like a toddler full of smarties.
Now days it's just, 'oh, I want to buy that, so I will.'

...which is better, of course, but less fun...

Totally agree, a game just meant a lot more when I couldn't just buy one when ever I want.

I miss my Megadrive years back when I was a kid. Especially around birthdays, I would get maybe one of two games in a year but on my birthday I'd get all my birthday money and buy about 6 or 7 games that would last me a year.

Or christmas time when I would go through my presents looking for the couple of boxes that were shaped like MD boxes and the anticipation of what it oculd be before opening it and the disappointment whenever it turned out to be a book or a video.

I love the old rose-tinted specs.

A decent, fair challenge. I recently finally got BioShock, and just realised that when you die, you are resurrected with all the damage you've done intact on enemies. That's ridiculous. Big Daddies aren't scary anymore, I may as well just go and hit them with a wrench, die, wrench, die, win. The only thing stopping me is self-respect.

And CoD4 is UNfair. Increasing the difficulty by making enemy soldier able to fire on full auto, from the other side of a field, with every bullet hitting you is cheating. Grrr.

The last fair, challenging game I played was DMC 3, methinks. Also Halo 3 on Legendary nearly got the balance right.

i miss social gaming. i rember the days where me and like 8 friends would have a goldeneye match or any other 4 player game. we would have tourneys, loser-passes-controller mode, crack open some pepsi and fire up the mac-n-cheese. (yes, i was like 10-13 at the time. not sure though, feels so distorted)
