Deffinitly Bullfrog for Sindicate. One of the best games on Amiga 500. Remember mission in Colorado when you had to kill governor and all the dumies were standing at the sidewalks waiting for you and your Gauss Luncher.

I miss complex games. I just to find pleasure in all those games when every aspect was take care of like in master of orion or Morrowind (Oblivion is oversimplified). I miss a lot from old games.

I miss old-fashioned turn-based JRPGs. You know, back when most of them had different characters, plots, themes, graphics, etc, but were basically the same gameplay underneath. I love those things. I loved the plots, exploring, sidequests, and especially the strategy. I hate the way all these new ones keep trying to come up with new combat systems, and almost all force you to react in real time. I prefered it when they were considerably harder, and you actually had to take some time to consider what you wanted to do next if you wanted to survive. I also LIKED the fact that they were mostly linear. I enjoy a well-written plot, and the more you allow the player to roam unchecked, the less detail you can put into the storyline. There's always room for extra sidequests.

Co-op, not enough games (Good ones i mean, like Oblivion for the Xbox 360 - Bad Example?) support Co-op in splitscreen. Nowa days you have to system link consoles together to play with each other.

Like realy. More game should have Co-op. How much more fun it will be to play some games in co-op. Like Dead rising or Saint's Row.

I miss some of the old school racing games and the first two Age of Empires. Games like Colin Mcrae rally were just so much fun with a steering wheel and pedals, me and my dad could just sit down and play that all night long. You just dont get that kind of thing anymore...

And heck ive only been gaming for about 8 years... imagine what crap EA/Blizzard/faceless corporations can spew out in the next 8 years...

I can't believe i might say this, but I miss some of those classic J-RPGs.

All of these current RPGs, Western-RPGs to be specific, are all these open-ended games where it's a "Choose your own adventure!" book and you get to be the hero or the villian or even both. Ugnh, sometimes I just want to play a nice, epic tale of some random guy (doesn't have to be a generic angsty-teenager) and just roll along with it instead of making choices that affect the whole damn game and then I'd have to go back to that moment to see what else would happen or if I didn't like the result.

I like a good "Open world" RPG sometimes (Oblivion comes to mind) but it just feels overwhelming and a chore. I've tried to explain this feeling to other people but they all just say "It adds to replay value" and I agree with that but sometimes I don't want to go back to the begining of the damn game to see what could have been.

Ugh, nostalgia hits hard.

I'd go further than those even and say games like Mass Effect. I have a brother and two Pc's in my house. would be really nice if I could play something with him and not against him.

Disgaea 3.
While I AM looking forward to this (if I ever get around to buying a PS3), the disgaea games are strategy games, not turn-based RPGs. There's a big difference.

This is exactly what I meant, but you spelled it out much more clearly. There have been a few decent ones recently, but not nearly as many as we used to get.

I like RPGs, but the problem is; I like them more then I think I like them.

Even Turn-based is okay every now and again, as long as it doesn't get to tedious.

I like to earn money, buy a better weapon, earn more money, spend that money to upgrade the current weapon, earn some more, sell the weapon to buy and new one and so on and so forth. It makes me feel like I earned the weapon (which is why I love so many of those types of Flash Games, i just can't find them for some reason!) unlike in many of these Western-RPGs where you could easily find the weapon or armor and when you buy it, you stumble across a free pair.

I'll give you an example;
I decided to start a new file in Oblivion, for lulz mainly, and after playing for only 2 hours getting to level 6 I believe, I went into a random cave just for the hell of it. I went in there, guess what? I found the second best(?) armor in the game right there, Dwarven Armor. I even found some Dwarven weapons and arrows. What the hell? What would be the point of earning more gold now?

And maybe it's just me, but I liked it when I connected with the main character in RPGs. Now with these huge complex Character Creators in RPGs nowadays, I just don't feel like I'm connecting with the character. I don't know why, but I don't.

I need to get some classic RPGs, any suggestions, the nostalgia is starting to twist my knickers.

@Jumplion: I'll strongly recomend "Fallout". One of the best RPG games ever or not so old Temple of Elemental Evil. I'm very big fan of Fallout Frenchise and all post-apocaliptic games myself. Can't wait for Fallout 3.

Also, good game music. The original homeworld soundtrack anyone?
oh, this. there was a time when music motivated you. it carried you though the game. i remember i was playing FF6 at one point. and i got hopelessly lost. i wandered across the world back and forth twice. in any game today, i would have gone "oh bugger this" and done something else. but the music in FF6 was enough to make it a pleasurable experience.

the music in tyrian 2000 transformed a somewhat samey shooter into a funny arcade game.
the music in freespace turned a slightly cliched space sim into an epic story.

the only game ive seen in recent years with that kind of music is a 2d kinda RPG *thing* called "within a deep forest". its not even a production game.

Sorry but... Wut. Dwarven is probably around the 3rd worst heavy armour in Oblivion. If you gave up at Dwarven then you seriously haven't given the game a chance. I know you've probably run through the game before, but things only start to get interesting later on.

Fair enough, I agree with the rest of your points, but I thought I'd pick you up on something. ;]

I generally miss the simplicity and elegant charm of earlier games. 2D platformers kept me occupied for weeks, yet modern games, in all their complexity and technological capabilities, bore me rather quickly. A lot of modern games just don't seem to addict me. It might just be me growing old and stale, but lately I've been yearning for something a little bit more.

Sorry if you didn't see the "I decided to start a new file in Oblivion, for lulz mainly" I have played the game before. Infact I have a level 37 Imperial charcter mainly because I didn't want to go to deep in the whole ups and downs of each character species.

But Dwarven armor is the 3rd worst armor? I usually go with blunt strength against attacks, and I just take what the game gives me. Dwarven armor just happend to be there ;)

Oh, and I agree with you on the 2D platformers if they can be frustrating at times. I used to have New Super Mario Bros for the DS and I loved it even if it did get frustrating towards the end. But for some reason, I sold it! Why the hell did I sell it!?!?! OH right, to pay for the wii.....not worth it in my opinion

Ow, ow, nostalgia hurts. I got to play something modern now to get rid of the pain! UNGH IT'S NO USE!! I've got to go play my GBA Sonic games my friend let me borrow, 'scuse me.

Play Bioshock, dude. I picked it up after a few months (3rd time through) and I forgot how truly amazing it is.
Sorry if you're not talking to me, but I'm waiting for the PS3 version of the game.

Damnit! Stay away from this thread, Jumplion, it brings out the worst in you!
