Tough one for me, I think the further north the hotter the accent. although sometimes its hard to know where a specific American accent comes from. That's one fairly unique thing about Australia, we all sound pretty much the same all over the country.
This is basically true but Queensland is reputedly stronger in accents than the rest... Maybe Northern Territory as well... and as a general rule the further in and isolated the stronger the accent.

LIKE AMERICA!?!? Please stop saying this it's not doing good things for my patriotism.
To the latter, screw emus... I ride a cassowary!

And to further one stereotype I could eat Vegemite from the jar... people who use butter are soft =]

Kinda. But, not really, but...

Just look at this picture. No I'm not going to upload it to ImageShack.

Ahh, I might have just got it mixed up with something... don't like 90% of the people or something live along the coast (like not directly on, but on the coast as opposed to towards the middle)? Maybe that was what I was thinking...

Not true. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monito_del_monte

About 80% of all the population lives within 500KM of the coast. People do live in the middle of Australia (there's a town called Alice Springs that is on the map purely because of this) it's just that aside from mining there's very little reason to do so.

Which sucks because unless its a global release we never get games on time! Do you know how long it took to get Super Smash Bros. Brawl here in Ausland? A long time

*In the various suburbs around the city, racism and homophobia are basically the status quo- in fact, I believe it could be mapped on a chart, the proximity to Major City vs dickishness of local populace.
Now that's just not true. I live in a small country town, and there's racism and homophobia aplenty. I think as you get closer to a city, larger population ensures you'll find greater numbers of racists/homophobics (idiots) but the percentage remains more or less the same...
I live here in Australia, and I don't really care. I didn't know it was Australia Day today until I found that I couldn't ring the University until tomorrow yesterday... Which is a pain.
I will say this. Our special forces unit kicks ass. It's widely regarded as the best.

Come on. Tell me what isn't awesome about that.

I'm impressed by the knowledge the non-Aussies here have exhibited.
I, too, am sorry about Rupert Murdoch. And half of Mel Gibson.
And like others have said, you really don't have to worry about the poisonous wildlife. It's not like we spend half our time dodging funnel webs and poisonous snakes. Both of those animals are fairly keen on avoiding the big cities. And if you get your house properly sprayed every year like you're supposed to, you'll never have a problem.

Donald Bradman had a batting average of 99.94
The first Governor General was a Sir Issac Issacs

Those are two random ones off the top of my head.
And yes, I am Australian

Who is the Australian Leader? President? King/Queen?

and for a real challenge

2 Movies made and set in Australia.

*No Wiki leaks
To easy. Julia Gillard is currently PM.

Movies ah. Ooo how about all three Mad Max films, "Dirty Deeds" (One of Sam Worthington's first films (Avatar, Clash of the titans) and also stars Sam Neal and John Goodman), "Animal Kingdom", "Samson & Delilah", "Bran Nue Dae", "Mary & Max", "Footy Legends", "Wake in Fright", "Bad Eggs", "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", "The Proposition", "Muriel's Wedding", "Ned Kelly", "Rabbit-Proof Fence (important to understand the aboriginal situation)", "The Castle" (famous for being filmed in 11 days with an awful camera and for being rubbish in general, yet still being one of the most loved and highest grossing Australian films of all time), "Japanese Story", "Jindabyne", "The Man Who Sued God", "On the Beach" (an incredibly depressing film and one of the first films to explore post-Nuclear WWIII Apocalypse.), "Romper Stomper", "Strictly Ballroom", "Ten Canoes", "The Dish", "Danny Deckchair", "Charlie & Boots", "Welcome to Woop Woop", "Chopper" ("I never killed anyone if they didn't deserve it" the best thing about the movie is everything in it is true. Chopper Reid is a real person.), "Fat Pizza: The Movie", "He Died with a Felafel in His Hand", and "Tomorrow, When the War Began" (shame they didn't keep to the book, which they could have done and still made a perfectly fine movie without the need for a sequel(which won't be made or they will be banned in america an thus not make enough money.) and they made the invaders Asian.)

Bloody hell that took a long time to write down.

*Don't come here- New Zealand is prettier, with a friendlier population, and it has Wellington. You know what Wellington has? Cuba Mall.
Amen to that brother, amen to that...

Don't know if it's been said but...

Australia can be classed as the largest island in the world or the smallest continent.

Melbourne is an awesome city that is far less full of pretentious douche jocks than Sydney.

Melbourne is also the capital of organized crime in the country.

Melbourne also has allot more hot chicks than Sydney.

If anyone can guess I like Melbourne not as much as Wellington of course.

Not entirely true. You have to have the right accent, which changes from person to person. There are several accents that I'd rather drive roofing nails into my ears than listen to.
Where do American accents fall in there?
Depends on the accent and the person listening. If you don't have the generic 'Mid-West tv presenter' accent or one of the milder New England accents most people will find your accent a bit grating.

NEVER attempt an Aussie accent in the presence of an Aussie. No one can do it right (with two exceptions) and rather than taking the 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery' school of thought most Aussies will assume you're taking the piss and start to get a bit hostile.

I've noticed a lot of Australians visiting the U.S. on holiday in my own travels. What's up with that?
Recon missions. You think invading Hollywodd was the entire plan?
