Where do American accents fall in there?

Tough one for me, I think the further north the hotter the accent. although sometimes its hard to know where a specific American accent comes from. That's one fairly unique thing about Australia, we all sound pretty much the same all over the country.

This is basically true but Queensland is reputedly stronger in accents than the rest... Maybe Northern Territory as well... and as a general rule the further in and isolated the stronger the accent.

Ahh, I might have just got it mixed up with something... don't like 90% of the people or something live along the coast (like not directly on, but on the coast as opposed to towards the middle)? Maybe that was what I was thinking...

Only place where marsupials live (I'll be damned if I managed to spell that right!) because Australia broke off from the rest of the worlds land masses so long ago that they evolved in Australia and never had a chance to spread anywhere else.

About 80% of all the population lives within 500KM of the coast. People do live in the middle of Australia (there's a town called Alice Springs that is on the map purely because of this) it's just that aside from mining there's very little reason to do so.

Now that's just not true. I live in a small country town, and there's racism and homophobia aplenty. I think as you get closer to a city, larger population ensures you'll find greater numbers of racists/homophobics (idiots) but the percentage remains more or less the same...
I live here in Australia, and I don't really care. I didn't know it was Australia Day today until I found that I couldn't ring the University until tomorrow yesterday... Which is a pain.
I will say this. Our special forces unit kicks ass. It's widely regarded as the best.

All the wildlife and plants are out to get you. So, it's basically like a Death World. Even kangaroos can kill you!

I, too, am sorry about Rupert Murdoch. And half of Mel Gibson.
And like others have said, you really don't have to worry about the poisonous wildlife. It's not like we spend half our time dodging funnel webs and poisonous snakes. Both of those animals are fairly keen on avoiding the big cities. And if you get your house properly sprayed every year like you're supposed to, you'll never have a problem.

Australia can be classed as the largest island in the world or the smallest continent.

Melbourne is an awesome city that is far less full of pretentious douche jocks than Sydney.

Melbourne is also the capital of organized crime in the country.

Melbourne also has allot more hot chicks than Sydney.

If anyone can guess I like Melbourne not as much as Wellington of course.

Not entirely true. You have to have the right accent, which changes from person to person. There are several accents that I'd rather drive roofing nails into my ears than listen to.

Depends on the accent and the person listening. If you don't have the generic 'Mid-West tv presenter' accent or one of the milder New England accents most people will find your accent a bit grating.

NEVER attempt an Aussie accent in the presence of an Aussie. No one can do it right (with two exceptions) and rather than taking the 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery' school of thought most Aussies will assume you're taking the piss and start to get a bit hostile.

I've noticed a lot of Australians visiting the U.S. on holiday in my own travels. What's up with that?

haha, im Australian myself, i was just mocking the usual things people say when they talk about Australia from a foreign perspective. Cassowaries are so 2010, i ride a Bunyip XD
