One of my good friends is a rather active member of the Furry community. As far as my opinion of the community itself? All I can really say without the risk of people taking it the wrong way is that they're a pretty optimistic group.

I try not to.
I understand that they are more misunderstood than we bronies, but I have yet to see furries stand up and say anything about themselves as we do all the damn time.

Don't piss me off, I don't care.

People who obssess to the point of annoying me? We have a problem.

Also, don't be a dick to other subcultures.

I watch anime...and read manga...and used to have a childhood crush on Cheetara.

Wait, what's this thread about again?

Eh, I don't mind most of them, but some furries, like with fursonas and everything, really creep me out, I dunno. I mean I'll probably still talk to them but I will feel vaguely uncomfortable the whole time.

And there's no word in the English language that makes me feel more disgusted than "yiff".

Okay man, I think we can all agree Cheetara doesn't count. If that weren't the case half this site would be furries. >.>

Well the requirements for being a furry is actually pretty loose.

If you like any kind of anthropomorphic animal (like say you watched the Disney cartoons with Mickey Donald and Goofy) you are technically a furry.

Of course you need to call yourself one to ultimately be one.

Also I give you The Tigra/Flora Paradox (yes I browsed TV Tropes too much).

"The Tigra/Flora Paradox: If you'd hit it you're a furry; if not you're gay."

Furrie, scaly, call me whatever you want for my involvement with the fandom, I am it. The fact that a lot of people cannot comment upon it without unrestrained backhandedness (what is a good substitute for that word), openly relishing their love of hating it or being able to hate anything in general, while a genuinely coveted freedom, has me really worried about them, let alone what they are like in real life.

This comment is pure gold. Even though there are many arguments about what is a gamer and how some say it makes as little sense as calling someone a booker, you cannot deny that our overarching appreciation of the medium and not necessarily individual components of it could technically allow us to be called a subculture and in direct violation of your statement: "don't be a dick to other subcultures."

I hate many subcultures but I would never, ever condemn the individual or express open hatred (as long as it does not hurt others), not because I can't (but I can) but rather out of common courtesy.

You forgot the most important thing! You are not a furry until you say you are. You can love all the anthropomorphic art you want but until you just say I am a furry, even to yourself, you are not one. Easiest subculture to join.

I engage in the furry community, but I'm not 100% sure what makes one constitute as a furry. I don't have a fursona, so to speak, nor do I wish I was an animal-humanoid hybrid. But I still love a lot of the art and the idea of living in an anthropomorphic world. Nevertheless, I don't see myself as anything other than human soooooo... I'm a fan of the fandom I guess? XD

True enough I suppose, I mean to some if it is not a human or a robot it is a furry. This includes all extra terrestrials, all talking animals, all demons and any human that has the genetics or an part of any other living species yet your top 10 favorite charters can all fall into these groupa and you not be a furry.

I have no problem with furries. So long as they don't force their beliefs on me I'm fine with them.

See that's the issue for me. I just find the art hot. I don't consider myself to be in or beholden to some sort of fandom because of that.

Thus you are not a furry simply because you do not consider yourself to be and thus you need not fear. ;)

I played way to much Werewolf The Apocoplypse online to have a problem with it.

Ultimately.. are you hurting anyone? No, all fine then.
